- Scout- Age 17 ABT Studio Company getting some help from Mr. Max over Christmas Break. Sometimes just one little thing in a variation can get to you. See what it takes to work on that "one little thing" over and over and over.
This video was made the same day as under the weather fouettes (Dec 2013). Scout was not 100% which kind of blows my mind to see that her work ethic is just as strong as any other day. Lesson is to keep your mind in it because determination goes a long way. Also, a lot like my private lesson videos with Mr. Max, you can see that much of the time can be spent trying to master one skill!

I love when he hugs her and kisses her cheek. The bond between student and teacher is amazing, especially when the teacher is seeing their pupil advancing both in their craft and in life. Truly touches my heart.

coming back to this video 6 years later and reading this comment with all that has been going on with personal space and touching another person, Im sure multiple people will be offended or say that is sexual harassment by a man

@@ArkanSubotic if it doesn't look like she's uncomfortable or it's inappropriate touching, nobody is going to say it is. Sounds like you're just upset that men are being called out for actually committing sexual harassment and not getting away with it. Yikes, buddy.
so inspiring to see the hard work that goes behind what seems to be effortless movements on stage - must be a real treat for Mr. Max to watch one of his "babies" grow up professionally :)

A vid like this is often reassuring, in a sense that many of us dancers have our different weaknesses in a movement or step that causes worry and requires extra work - one is not alone, we are all in this together. Even the best might need assistance/practice. Anyhow, she is doing very well, and has stunning legs and feet! All the best :)

This kind of makes me teary-eyed watching the teacher-student bond between Mr. Max and Scout, you can tell he really cares about all of his students and he truly wants to see them succeed. I really wish I had a teacher like him. Is it possible for students that don't attend your school to take an open class with him, Robbie?

I wish the one who took the video didn't zoomed in and out too much and too often, it's making me dizzy and I couldn't see her whole body doing the exercises. I wanted to see the exercises, not look at her face all the time.
Yeah, Scout, you are lovely! I danced with ABT. Beth Ferrel was in the company at the same time, we went to SAB together too. I know this is an old video but I wanted to give you a constructive correction on your en dedans pique turn to arabesque, on the pique you are sitting in the standing leg hip and turning it in. I know you are probably still curious about this complicated sequence being the avid focused learner you appear to be. This can be corrected at the barre: releve pressing the outside of your knee cap into your heel, placing the weight to travel through your heel, and then to your toes. This will keep the tension in the back of your leg and out of the front of your thigh. Keep your buttocks tight and under you, don't release them. This will allow your upper back to move forwards and relax so you can use it as your teacher is saying.
She is now with the ABT so she probably got it covered :D

Love watching classes :) how long has Mr Max taught Scout? Also, I'm very curious about the high cut leotard thing- is it a preference of your school, or dance fashion in America?
I know you didn't ask me, but actually the high cut leotard is used by ballerinas all over the world, because it makes your legs higher and your lines more natural. In most of professional dance schools is a requirement.
What variation is she doing? Scout's technique is beautiful!
It's Raymonda's Act II variation, one of the most challenging solos in the classical rep.

Bettina I believe he is speaking English but has a very thick accent. I heard “Stop” “Last part” “Very good” and a few other phrases but it’s hard to make out over the noise of the fan.

I am also not sure about the kiss. A hug is different but the kiss is not appropriate I think. But that's just me and others think differently of course. I wouldn't like a kiss from my male teacher.
I do like her dancing, however perhaps she should invest in double sided tape to keep the leotard in place.
She should stop for 5 minutes to get a drink, then continue.
This was 5 years ago, she's now a decently famous professional elite ballerina with ABT

@@mydancetv I believe they meant she wasn't making any progress on this particular issue, which I disagree with, and this probably wasn't even close to the entire lesson, it was most likely 1+ hrs
People who cannot see details nor dont have enough experience will not see progress.
What she is doing is very difficult and she is doing a great job and This could be very beautiful but the ridiculous number of times she adjusted her leotard totally ruined it for me. I wanted to say if you are so uncomfortable in the leotard than wear something on top of the leotard. It must have distracted her as well from what she tried to do. I am almost surprised that he didn't say anything. It would have been kind of embarrassing but it drove me nuts. It also looks bad that she pulls the leotard up that high for classical ballet Does she want to impress him with that or what ? I am sure she didn't think about it and she did it unconsciously but it ruins the whole piece for me. She is beautiful.
Bettina I know this is old but I train full time and I think it’s pretty normal to adjust your Leotard that much especially if its a very low cut Leotard that just won’t stay up. You always want your legs to look longer
