      German dominance ? They won Euro 72 and the WC in 74. Euro 80 six years later. It took another 10 to win their next trophy in 1990. They didn't dominate the WC and while three wins in the Euros is impressive from 1972-1996, they didn't win the other 5.

      @@DannyBoy777777I believe the OP is saying that Germany were almost always there at the business end of tournaments. Two World Cup runners-up finishes (1982, 1986) plus another European Final in 1992, in addition to what has already been mentioned, is not to be sniffed at. They were very consistent back then.

    I remember the game on TV. Germany were led by the imperious Beckenbauer and driven by Gunter Netzer in what was probably the most complete midfield performance I have ever witnessed Only 2 years later West Germany won the Jules Rimet Trophy beating a Johan Cruff Dutch side 3 1 in the final, a tournament England failed to qualify for losing to Poland in the qualifying group

  • @pt_1070

    West Germany and the Netherlands were the up- and-coming powers in European football then and England, representing the old guard, was on the wane at the time, probably lingering still on the memories of 1966. This match always reminds me somewhat of the footballing lessons the great Hungarian team of the 1950's gave the Three Lions in 1953 and '54, something of a shock for England and the English footballing press, but then again, that was no harm. They need a come-uppance every now and again. 😌

    • @NuisanceMan
      @NuisanceMan Před 3 měsíci

      Probably true, but England was much more in the fight here than in '53 and '54 against Hungary. In this one, they had been building up for a long time toward Lee's equalizer and it looked like they'd earned at least a draw.

    Vejo como os goleiros saiam da pequena área para defender as bolas cruzadas. Os argentino e uruguaios sempre fizeram isso, de saber jogar com os pés. De uns tempos após a mudança da regra pelo excesso de bolas atrasadas ao goleiro, este só fica embaixo e entre as traves, só sai em caso de escanteio(muitos ficam olhando a bola chegar e rezam pelo zagueiro tirar, ou s vêem passar direto pela área). Jogam com os pés devido a proibição de defender com as mãos bola recuada. Via isso em jogos de times"grandes contra pequenos", o goleiro do "pequeno" jogava a bola na entrada da área, um jogador ficava..., ficava..., tocava para um outro ao lado que recuava ao goleiro que dava um chutão sabendo que todo o time dele estava recuado na intermediária defensiva. Podem ver as imagens dos lances, o terceiro toque é recuo para o goleiro dar chutão. Tinha treino duro(essa turma de canela de vidro e de "artistas"de uns anos para cá, não aguentaria um par de dias), mas acho faltava fundamento. Jogar fechado para não levar gol. Não faziam, porém e terminavam rebaixados, alguns por mais tempo que o previsto. Outros até não mais se ergueram. Porém, ainda estão aí. Mas que a qualidade era outra, era. Hoje tem Campeonato "na Inglaterra, na Alemanha, na França(principalmente neste país, há mais de 50 anos é assim), na Itália...". Mas não tem mais o "Campeonato Inglês, Alemão, Italiano...". Virou desfile e vitrine de e para estrangeiros. Alguém lembra da limitação de 3 em campo por equipe?. A Itália tentou limitar isso mas, "deram contra". E o "Cálcio Italianni"..., é o que vemos..., chega, até ganha, mas na bacia das almas. Por aqui, no nosso futebol, evito comentar. Fazíamos a diferença ao jogar contra os europeus, tínhamos o nosso hábito da bola. Atualmente, joga-se qual europeu, mas em nível médio ou baixo. Mãe adora essa comparação, "...na Europa é fazer de um atleta, um jogador. Aqui é fazer de um jogador, um atleta..." 🎉
