    Barcelona fans want beautiful football like back in the Pep days but the problem is they just don't have the personnel to do that. The core of that supreme team is either out of Europe, retired or too old to offer the same intensity. I think Valverde did well to adapt to the squad especially in the first season and still led Barcelona to La Liga victories. The Barcelona board are to blame mostly for the football Valverde offered which the fans didn't particularly love, they knew how he sets up his teams but offered him the job.
    Barca's signings have been very questionable too in recent seasons. Coutinho sign for a hefty fee was not a fit, Griezmann is good but do you really need such a profile if you already have Messi especially when he's close to 30 and now they're also after Rodrigo Moreno who's similar to Messi and Griezmann. Just shows how they don't really know who's a perfect fit for the team.
    They need players who move into spaces created by Messi dropping deep to create. They also need fullbacks who overlap to stretch play since currently it's Alba who does that and he's not getting young.

    • @jjryan1352
      @jjryan1352 Před 4 lety +27

      Too many fake-ass fans. They complain if don't win a treble every season, complain if don't play "beautiful attacking football", complain if win 1-0, complain about proven club legends (OMG players are getting older!), complain if the squad isn't filled with academy noobs who can't even perform against a 3rd tier team. This toxic fanbase is in for a reality check.

    Saying that valverde faced the weakest version of Madrid is wrong ! he faced the MD that won UCL and has Ronaldo while barca lost Neymar. The guy was very good in la liga and el clasico and we should be fair to him when it comes to la liga, his problem was in UCL, especially his decision to relay on the defence after winning by large margin in home which led to those two embarrassing comebacks that ruined his entire career with barca and ruined our image. I think Valverde is a decent manager and would work perfectly for other clubs that play direct football and don't have a huge demand like barcelona. For Setien, he has come to bringing Tiki-Taka back, but from the first games, the problems of Tiki-Taka that led us to ask for new type of managers and football appears again, and setien should bring new idea and tactic, not just bring the Tiki-Taka back since most clubs are already familiar with the style and know how to stop it.

      Exactly, this board r obsessed with signing no.10 players. It's like they r piling up Messi replacements for when he retires. Last season signing a left winger would have been the most logical and flexible since we never knew of Perez and fati then. We basically only had one winger which was dembele after selling Malcom. Yet the board to decide to blow their wallet on griezmann who doesn't suit the role of Suarez's replacement nor a winger. If they were gonna go for a Suarez replacement, should have went for lautaro, there's many better no.9s out there, rather then a griezmann with no role

    Valverde wasn't the problem (in fact, I'd say he's a good tactician overall). The main problems are: 1) Messi and his generation retire soon, and the next gen are not nearly as good. 2) Nostalgia is bad: tiki-taka was effective and groundbreaking for Barca and Spain in 2008-12, but today the tactical trend is exactly the opposite i.e. fast and vertical transitions disregarding possession (we even see the return of counter-attacking 4-4-2 to fashion with young managers like Nagelsmann) 3) Social media creates a toxic atmosphere 4) Internal political battles among Barca factions for the presidency (Bartomeu, Font, Laporta et.)

    Valverde didn't play the role of manager,he had no power within so he befriended the players and let them rule and do as they pleased...the players became less and less competitive doing as they pleased,no intensity both in trainings and in games,with a brutal fall in the capacity to compete (remind how spalletti described with astonishment how poor were Barcelona trainings);some players,due to their large list of success,had gained a lot of power within the club,and they played almost every Game,leaving no space for meritocracy and internal competition,which leaded to Coutinho playing on and on despite his ultra low level of performance,leaving out a real winger, dembele,much more skilled to give width and one-on-one habilites,speed,and capacity to score with both legs...also the absurd ostracism of semedo so Sergi Roberto could play despite a lower level as rightback,the constant appearance of rakitic playing every minute without deserving when there were 7-8more available midfielders un the team...the sempiternal appearance of Suárez playing every minute,leaving no room for dembele and Malcolm....It was ridiculous,but Valverde had no power inside so he let the sacred cows to rule over him,leading to a severe lack of the capacity to compete....

    Setien needs to ensure Grizzou stays in the No. 9 vicinity instead of running all over the pitch. It's very evident why Messi doesn't pass much to him...because he's generally caught running in all the 'wrong' directions compared to what the MSN were used to. In my opinion Valverde did not do it badly, although perhaps it is the Barcelona coach he had something big with players who have a big ego. But the absolute fault lies with the board of directors with Bartomeu at the head. He did not give Barsa the renewal it needs, the squad aged because of him. The league titles hid for a few years the falls in the Champions League, but it must be taken into account that in 2018 and 2019 Real Madrid did not even compete in the league after two painful seasons. Barsa won those leagues without doing much, but in Europe they had not reached the quarterfinals for 5 consecutive years. Between those 5 years, in 4 of the occasions he was eliminated being thrashed by Juve, Roma and Liverpool. Now for Bayern. Messi is the best in the world, worse today his friends play in the team and Barsa has become the team of Messi and his friends. Barcelona need a big Renewal, but it´s too late.

    Totally agree with your video. On top of that, current Barca is too one dimensional (tiki-taka heavy).
    They are so good at tiki-taka but that's it.
    No fast counter attack - they often stop in the middle to check their twitter and allowing opponent to get back to formation
    No through pass - they should learn from Liverpool, as in their backline should give long pass more often to their forwards when opponent got high defensive line
    No aerial prowess - even in corner they don't have the 'ball' to initiate aerial combat and often getting corner seems bad for Barca as it actually gives opponent chance to counter
    No cutting pass - their midfield just busy passing the ball sideways and backwards instead of paying attention to Griezmann making his run behind opposition's backline
    No physicality - most of their players have medium or even small body size, they have hard time if opponent gets physical just like when they got bullied by AS Roma and Liverpool, seems like watching highschoolers playing against primary school kids.
    They might need a new coach but really they need players with different skillset (like Vidal) to give Barca more options in scoring goals. They need player who can:
    Outspeed opponent's backline - Dembele is good but he's too prone to injury
    Win aerial combat - Pique is the only one with aerial threat but he's a defender
    Outmuscle opponents - Suarez and Vidal are currently the only players who can shield the ball, the rest just got hammered as soon as opponent charges in
    If Barca can add some players to give more dimensions in their team with these three aspects then they have a chance of getting treble.

Only people who knows about football can notice that this Barca cannot give more with the players they have now. The real problem is the bad desicions on contracts in the last years and thats more of a president's or sport director's issue.

But to say "Guardiola is the best manager in history, just look at his trophies" is wrong. I think he might struggle repeating his results in lower table sides. He was really lucky having THAT team be his first team.
      With those first Barca trophies in hand, he now can pick and choose what clubs to go to, and he chose Bayern and City. Teams that would have won the series within these years anyway. What's next PSG and Juventus ?!
      Guardiola is good, also tactically and man-on-man. But he was lucky with that Barca side. He was lucky even if he could have waited but took his chance when he saw what players were there. He was lucky to have those players when the Barca board gave his the opportunity.

The best manager for the best team, it’s as simple as that.

  • @sharegan6822
    @sharegan6822 Před 4 lety +10

    setien must understand the versatility of this squad. If we don’t have a good winger instead of playing fati we should have played roberto upfield so that we cud have dominated from the centre instead he played fati which was never useful he still substituted him with another unexperienced and unfit winger which made no sense. Even valverde would have handled this situation better. we love possession ball yes but still the coach must adapt and change strategies according to each game. look at zidane He takes risks changing strategies in between the game and has experienced players who can adapt to the changes in tactics we have well balanced squad and sad part is that the manager could not dictate this team well. setien must not stay clueless again. hope everything gets better with barca. they must use messi’s prime form its sad that they are wasting it.

    • @nektarioss
      @nektarioss Před 4 lety +1

      Hey pal, look, Setien was appointed on the 14th of January. He has been around Barca for less than a month. This HAS TO be taken into account. And another factor is the lack of wingers! Messi (who doesn't play wide), Fati (too young to take such a burden) and (injured) Dembele is what is left. I get your point that he has to adapt but he needs to exploit the wide areas and he has to see what his players can give to his team. I wouldn't bother if he wanted to sacrifice an already lost result for the sake of his team and his job.

    • @sharegan6822
      @sharegan6822 Před 4 lety

      Σαμιωτάκης Νεκτάριος i get it brother he was appointed in a crucial time. setien has made vast changes. has taken a lot of risk training players every day. By doing this he can understand each player’s versatility more. in my opinion roberto needs to play in mid and semedo must play as rb. yes we don’t have good options in wide areas. fati is unfit its pointless to play him against such a physical side. he was struggling he could have changed him in half time. that was a big mistake from setien. a new coach taking over must be spot on with mistakes. setien is coming with a lot of experience. he stood clueless. if you want to reduce messi’s burden you need a creative winger like dembele if you don’t have dembele play roberto on wide areas cuz he has good experience playing as a wing back. he can play as a right midfielder and help both attack defence and pressing.

    • @sharegan6822
      @sharegan6822 Před 4 lety

      Σαμιωτάκης Νεκτάριος roberto has insane passing range. our right side is complicated cuz of messi’s presence. so we need more options on right side wen he drops in the middle. ansu fati or collado couldn even make good runs. we could have scored one goal at least to boost mentality.

    • @sharegan6822
      @sharegan6822 Před 4 lety

      Σαμιωτάκης Νεκτάριος im absolutely happy to have a talent like fati in our team but he is being overused. thats not good for the team and himself. he cannot dispossess or press. barcelona are sticking to their ideal formation always and never changing because they are afraid to make changes. setien is a coach who takes risks. Look at barca’s squad every player is insanely talented. If setien leads them well they can win any team anywhere. They aren’t being used well. setien’s average game possession is more than 70% which is incredible still he isn’t convinced yet. thats a great mentality. I’m hoping for betterment and don’t want him to be clueless again. Also he must spot mistakes in the half time. he is taking time like valverde. that sucks but i think he will learn as the season progresses cuz he is a person who makes instant changes. we are still second in the league in ucl in cdr. if we gain good mentality it would give us high momentum. Hope barca wins it all this year.

      @@sharegan6822 Man, the excitement Setien has brought is on another level. I love that, the whole atmosphere... He has a lot to prove but I want to be lenient on him and in this first season I won't demand major titles. We all want our club to be successful, though. A treble seems doable but too difficult. We indeed have a lot of talent and players who can play in a bunch of different positions. We have to admit, however, that the board is like a criminal. Why did they have to sell Perez if there is a lack in the wings? Perhaps they can get him back because he is on loan until Summer. Do you know of they can get him back if we have another injury problem?

    Valverde didn't destroy barca. What people fail to understand is that barca is a tough side to manage or even play for, due to the limitations players and managers have with the tactical style. Valverde was more of a coach who relied on heavily on the intensity from his players. Valverde was brilliant at athletico bilbao due to the players he had, players who fought in every match to get a result, players who always played with high intensity and dint depend so much on their technical attributes.
    Barcelona hired the wrong manager, the players never adapted to valverde, but instead expected valverde to adapt to their own style of play, which was never gonna happen with a team that requires immediate results.

    Setién aren't better than Valverde... I support ten Hag or Pochettino as a manager in Barcelona, they have the tatical style that the team needs. But Barcelona should bring some key players, like a ofensive right-back, a attacking midfielder and a left-winger, in my opinion the best names are: Héctor Bellerín, Havertz and Neymar.
    My ideal 11 for Barcelona 4-3-3
    ter Stegen
    Bellerín, Lenglet, Umtiti and Alba
    de Jong (Arthur/Rakitić), Busquets and Havertz (Vidal/Riqui Puig). De Jong also can play in Busquets's position
    Messi, Griezmann (Suárez) and Neymar

    The video shows Valverde although a problem, wasn't the real issue. He didn't have a squad to play a certain way, be it his way or how Barcelona fans want the team to. Barcelona lacked a proper LW, a No.8 and attacking RB to play the possession based football and also lacked a deep playmaker, a modern CDM and wide midfielders to play the Valverde brand of football. Eventually he tried to combine both and achieved neither, which isn't really his fault. I would only blame him for his cowardice in both the UCL bottlings, something neither Lucho nor Pep would have shown
