"Only noticing other pieces of art as a way to measure your own place in line"
    Priceless line.

Phil Kaye has always caused me to pause for a moment. Whether it is with “When Love Arrives” or now with “Priceless”. Kaye seems to always touch on the quieter sentiments that we all experience or hope to experience. I love the work of this artist and always look forward to what Kaye puts forth. Thank you Phil Kaye!

Experiencing things others have experienced by ourselves helps us only to know how much value they truly hold.

"Priceless or After Waiting in Line for an Hour to See It, You Realize the Mona Lisa is Somewhat Small and Underwhelming"
And while waiting, are reminded of your own twitching extremities,
The way you clomp around the nylon ropes, bristle when others get too close,
until finally it is your turn and the velvet gates open
and you and your temporary herd molasses stampede into the painting's presence,
its protective glass thicker than teeth,
as you each try and capture yourselves in front of it,
a portrait of a portrait, struggle to siphon the priceless from the already priceless.
You think for a moment about walking past in protect.
After, in an otherwise empty museum, your love smirks, says, "Well, we saw it."
And there is a loosening in your tooth-worn mouth, that at least she did not feel the faint weight of a crest fall,
did not obsess about how the painting's warmth was lost in the gigantic room,
how the ever swarm begged the portrait to look all ways at once.
Instead she says, "I never thought I'd be able to see that in real life."
And of course, it is no longer about the portrait's expression, the blurry landscape,
the fact that you waited in line for three galleries,
only noticing other pieces of art to measure your own place in line.
    It is here,
in some empty-bellied wing of the museum,
surrounded by the jewelry of a forgotten kingdom,
    with her,
and a new assuredness, like a wool coat, like a tight weave,
it is here that it becomes obvious that the priceless thing you read about as a child,
saw in movies, heard about in song,
up close is small, demure, simple.
Of course, it deserves to be protected.
Of course, you wait and wait.
And if you get the chance, though it is not yours to keep,
You try and hold it close.

Phil is remarkable in the way he finds meaning in human experience, and does so with humour and genuine love of life. He reminds us that every moment we have on earth is precious.

I love so much this poem. After my first break up,I turned back here to mourn about my injuries and to heal them. And I realize as I heard again the first part (knowing that he refears in this same first part,to the Mona lisa portrait) that from the beggiming he could be talking about loev as well during the hole poem.
There is always something new whenever i heard spoken word poetry.

A movie. A novel. A poem just ends at the good part. At the final destination and that ending is sometimes only 7mins longs. Just for 2 pages. Just for few words. And sometimes not as grand as you expect yet that is important.
This poem is all about how a dream is not a destination but a journey. To dream is to wait. Is to hope.
