Sarah Kay could read her grocery lists and still manage to seem profound
right!
right!
maybe she should someday :P
maybe she should someday :P
I'd probably cry over her grocery list too
This literally has tears in my eyes. When people hear of my plans for the future, they ask "Jordan, why would you _ever_ want to be a teacher?" To be somebody's Mrs. Ribeiro.
Jordan Smith more power to you Jordan! Fly!
Jordan Smith good luck ! become a phenomenal teacher!
nirbhika sachdev who can attest to that exempt you.
be aa phenomenal Mrs. Ribero!
Yes! U just topped this video off
"My world was the size of a crayon box, and it took every color to draw her." Beautiful.
Something about her. Her voice. The way she moves her hand and her words. Her tone of voice. Just so mesmerizing. There are things she talks about that I have never personally gone through Etc and yet I can still feel I have And I think that's when you know a poet is good at what they do. Is when they put you in another world and reality.
That's exactly what spoken word poetry is. Shapes of words, shapes of hands, expression of the body and voice in a way that puts us in a different world. That's all art is actually. The subject of the picture matters but thats not what makes it art. And it's gorgeous.
Leyah Taylor did you smash your keyboard?
Makayla S her voice 😭😭😭🔥
Honestly one of my favorite poems ever. She is my go to poet when people complain that slam poets are always angry.
I light your username
like
Lol I thought you were being punny
Sarah Kay is one of the rare poets who refreshingly powers her art with love. Not to say that rage poetry isn't lovely too, but sometimes it's nice to see that words can be powered by something positive
Her poems are like storybooks. Truly amazing.
"my world was the size of a crayon box, and it took all colour to draw her"
I really like that
I love that line too! And looks like we've got another common interest

@@sophianegrin6301 Giiirrrlll Not everyone is American. Kindly sit down
The poem becomes a picture story when she reads it.
I was so curious who Mrs. Ribeiro is, so I did a little googling here and there, and maybe she is Lea Rangel-Ribiero? She died in 2011. Sarah's description of her sari and the kids appointments was the same as the one who posted in the forum. Such an amazing person.
Yes, Patricia, Lea Rangel-RIbeiro was the principal of the United Nations International School's Junior house for over 30 years. Sarah has done a brilliant job capturing her spirit.
Eva Rangel-Ribeiro well that's amazing! you're perhaps related to her?
She's my Mom. So proud of her, and so proud of Sarah for carrying on her spirit of teaching.
*starts singing* ITS A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL
+Eva Rangel-Ribeiro Wait WHAT
the power of believing in children, and amazing compassionate teachers
When I grow up I want to be a teacher, I want to be Mrs. Ribeiro.
"The one who loved to read out loud: now a *poet* in California."
I don't know why, but that line just hit different. This poem might not tackle a ton of social issues or be saddening or reveal something we didn't know before, but it's probably the most interesting poem I've ever heard and spoken from a voice that can make anything seem profound. I think I just discovered one of my new favorite poets.
You're the reason I write, even to achieve a fraction of what you have, to be someone even sharing a few qualities, is what I aspire for. love your poetry Sarah
It's been years and I keep coming back. Sarah is phenomenal.
I don't know why-
The more i listen,
The more i cry..
she always makes me cry
I just cry everytime. This is my dream, to be someone's Ms. Ribeiro.
Sarah has such a poet voice.
I love Sarah Kay so much. She opens her mouth for a second and I find myself flying to a different part of the world. Eyes opening like morning curtains.
Oh please do something w..."Eyes opening like morning curtains."
So descriptive. 💙💙💙💙
Ugh, Sarah Kay is my favorite.
She's such an amazing speaker, I love her
My longest time favorite! The poem and the poet. I'm always coming back to re-watch.
Beautiful description . A lesson for all future teachers.
I love this. This is the beauty of learning, education, wonder.
Heres a poem about her
Her voice is like a blank paper
Which she colors with emotions
Her sweet lines which ends in shredded whispers.
I love you SARAH KAY you are my idol please like this
Oh how the heavens have cried
And when she did
the world would be tucked in the covers of warmth.
The glow in the dark.
The flickers.
Which in this moment silences the rumbles.
Only when one braved the sadness,
Did they find the flow of life,
And the joy of dancing in the rain.
It’s been awhile
Her words cast a glow across my face
So has her kindness that ignites an ever-lasting flame.
May she carry her torch through the storm.
Even if the rain has distinguished the fire.
Should it never distinguish the fire inside.
I’d love to hear. Take your time.
Whoa 😮😊 it’s beautiful.
this was so beautiful to hear as an aspiring teacher. hope someday one of my students gets to be this great.
i cried for essentially this whole video
Amelia Wiygul Me too!

YES I NEEDED SOME SARAH KAY IN MY LIFE 🙌❤️
Why am I in tearing ?!
Wow, I was hanging on every word. What a treat.
Words, music, melody, rhythm, words, more words, English words sounding, pounding, waving... Listen! Listen to each other....:-)
Another video another kitchen breakdown at the hands of Ms. Kay. I hope she never stops.
This is giving me goosebumps and tears in my eyes every time
Gave me chills, but as is to be expected with anything written by Sarah Kay.
IM NOT CRYING, YOURE CRYING 😭
Sounds like the best school ever
This made me cry just as much I missed the teachers that I had who were so great to me she described how a student looks up to her teacher so perfectly I’m literally in tears I miss being a kid again
I pray my child has nothing but teachers like this 🤞🙏
She is amazing, I could cry no matter what she says.
How I missed this poem out of all the poems I legit watched almost religiously when I first discovered miss Kay but oof.. to still see I’m here to comment 6 years later knowing 6 years ago after hearing Sarah’s poem “The Type” I was absolutely bloody inspired by the highest and beyond of comprehension I was even able to comprehend back then at my age. I am 23 now and honestly just knew I wouldn’t make it past 17 back then. And to see I made it way past my original death age I gave myself yearssssss back just absolutely elates me to know I am indeed strong, Sarah Kay you are stronger farther than just your words and you reading this are stronger than words can describe by just being here and existing after all this life torment I’m sure we all have experienced at some point in our lives. Thank you Sarah for existing, thank you for your creator for your creation and thank YOU for remaining strong despite how hard life can be always know you are loved in some way by someone, and if no one has told you that you are loved, you are loved. By not just me but many more. May you all be well for eternities and beyond. 🌙
Thank you!! I have passed the date that I was sure I would end it all. But I found myself again and I'm proud to still be here. Experiencing all the life I would have missed. I hope you are doing okay!
@@zacharydalton4699 hestatic to hear that! And I'm doing well myself thanks for your concerns, brightest of blessings to you; remain well!
This makes me smile because you can see her so passionate about what she is talking about. It's like you can feel every emotion she's feeling and that makes me love and admire her so much.
Has anyone listened to 'B' (if I should have a daughter)? I think it is her best one yet.
I love that one,my favorite is when love arrives uwu
i LOVE the way you your stories. you are my favorite sarah!!!!
TY!
Omg crying to this because it related to me so much.. my entire life my brothers called me dumb and stupid, like most brothers do. In school I was called stupid I was always the only blonde in an school with 90% Asians (which is not me stereotyping but I'm just saying because it's rare to meet a blonde Asian so you could see how I was an easy target) and when I was told this over and over i accepted it and believed I'd only be a c average student at best. It wasn't until I had a teacher in my junior year of high school who I was so close with that literally made me grow in such a short period of time and like that I was a B+ student and to someone that might not be an accomplishment but to meant everything and for that I am thankful for Mr. Giknis greatest guy ever.. it's amazing what kind of role model a teacher can be
Ugh her voice is so wonderful to listen to
Okay so now I'm crying
She's my favorite poet !!!
Im in tears.. Thank you, Sarah.
She talks about everything as if it’s the most important thing ever to exist and I love it
sarah kay has always been my favourite poet, and god damn she still is
i said what i said
She came to my school, and it was a magical experience.
Wow, what an amazing tribute to an equally amazing lady in your life! Truly inspiring
She went to the school I go too!!
Thanks, Sarah Kay. I'm currently interning in a high school as a teacher and was feeling a bit disheartened by the reality of a school. This reminds me that all those are not important and teaching the students is what I should be focused on the most. Thank you.
Are you still teaching?
Every time I watch this I cry.
I continually come back to this video, and probably will for years. Listening to a Sarah Kay poem is like coming home.
I love her poetry and the stories, the way that she paints pictures in the audience's minds.
i’ve rewatched this so many times because i love it so much
I keep coming back to this poem every now and then. Actually, no, I keep coming back to every single one of her poems.
Our "Mrs. Ribeito" was Mrs. Jolly she was the deputy principle she rode a motorcycle to school. She encouraged each and everyone of us at Whitfield. She left to be the principle at another school. Those kids are so very lucky. I hope they treasure her. I am a 22 year old scientist now. And I have many teachers to thank for that.
Why do I always cry when I watch her perform
This was the most beautiful piece, ever.
i will never get enough of her voice, its so calming
Sarah Kay is always so mesmerizing to watch. Without a doubt one of my favourite poets.
Everytime i listen to her voice there will always be a tear that escapes my eyes
I've watched this video about a hundred times and I always cry.
