Oooooo. The pressure was OOOONNNN for this one. Dragged out some old footage for an abandoned video and tried to make it interesting. BTW, CZcams's blur tool sucks! If you need to blur something complicated then do it it post. Now off to learn a new skill in after effects so I can get the other video to you guys! Never fear homies, I'm on it!
Love the groovy music, the pause to hear the wheel go 'brrrr' and of course the informative content. Good one!
Starts at @ 1:47
Haha very funny. Shut up
This is exactly what Iâve been looking for. Thanks!
I love simple videos like this, keep it up.
How does the weight of this repurposed freewheel compare to a single speed freewheel? Having a light rear end is one of the biggest benefits of single speeds. Plus the cost of a single speed freewheel should be much less than the value of the multispeed freewheel you are replacing.
That is a cassette though not a freewheel. So the racheting mech is inside the hub he is only changing the sprockets.
this was so well put....although i searched for the opposite and clicked this, then wondered "this doesn't seem right..."
appreciate the editing in this video. great job!
Thanks Rome!
You installed a fixed cog so the cranks won't stop moving once your underway , what about if you want to fit a free wheel cog.
It IS a freewheel cog.
It's installed on the old freewheel hub.
Yeah. Now how do you do this with a vertical drop in? Freewheel style. Gets much more complicated according to all of the bike shops I've called.
You can use a chain tensioner like this www.wiggle.com/au/p/dmr-simple-tension-seeker-and-single-speed-kit?gad=1&gclsrc=ds
I want to turn my e-bike into a single speed since I use only one speed anyway and I want to make it easier to clean my chain during the winter. But my question is, do you need a smaller crankset diameter or a bigger one if you want to make it so I can still pedal to give power when I'm going higher speeds?
If you want a higher gear so your legs arent spinning like crazy at high speeds you want a higher tooth chainring (larger diameter) at the crankset and a smaller cog at the rear.
This video did help me out I just what Intell Friday to order the tools I need
Wouldn't it be preferable to have a down tube frame like some mountain bikes?
Very informative video! Della asks why would one convert to a bike to a single speed? đ Looking forward to the next Ep! đđ»đđ»
Simplicity. Purity. Efficiency. Simplicity. There's something wonderful about not thinking about which gear to go into because you can't and you get a feeling of connectedness to the bike that you just don't with a geared bike. Then there is the efficiency, there is a reason why track bikes are single speed. One really has to ride one to understand. I'd let you ride mine but since doing this work I have converted it back to a gears, the hills around here are a pain in the arse on a SS đ đ đ
Sorry I know nothing about bicycles, but why do that? Doesnt shifting give a big advantage?
"vintage"
@@klompex100 gears are great but the simplicity of a single speed bike and the efficiency is a different experience altogether. If you are riding on mostly flat terrain itâs awesome.
@@kendallmonk this makes sense! i see many people who talk about how great their old single speed bikes from the DDR (east Germany)are and I think about getting one aswell. Working on the derailer and things are a pain, now Iâm thinking of converting one of my bikes to single speed aswell.
Yeah Matt i was wondering the same thing
Fair question Mel, check out my lengthy response to Matt's question â
Grate vid
Thanks dude.
Hi Matt nice video! But do you think you can convert it with road bike frame with a vertical dropout?
Nah
Haha, a year later and I just saw this comment. With a vertical dropout you need a chain tensioner.
what do u call the thing that u put to make the cog elevated,? at 49 in the vid..

Thanks!!
Nice! Any link to buy a single speed conversion kit? đđŒ
Hey yeah of course! www.chainreactioncycles.com/au/en/gusset-1-er-single-speed-conversion-kit/rp-prod17776
Can i make this a coaster hub?
What are the sizes of the spacers on the hubs??
@@kousukesaki3965 no idea, I sold this bike years ago. You can buy them in single speed conversion kits.
Where can I find those spacers at?
Right here - www.chainreactioncycles.com/au/en/dmr-single-speed-converter-kit/rp-prod2300
Is it now a fixie?
@@susssnasssekee219 no, itâs still a freewheel hub so can coast.
Not gonna pull it off in 90 seconds when you don't know which way to use the chain whip
Whatâs a chain whip? đ
