  • This is a tonal and mod comparison of the verbs that both these boxes have in common. Let’s see how their shared sounds stack up! Let me know what you think below! Special thanks and shout out to my bro Derrick for letting me borrow his Rv-6 for this!
    Blue Sky - amzn.to/2Ku6aqn
    RV6 - amzn.to/2ql7g0w

    The guitar is a Gibson 1960s tribute with an M&V Humbucker in the bridge and a stock p90 in neck.

    The amp is a Tyler Amps JT14, which sounds similar to a vintage Fender Princeton but with a little more low end and body!

It’s so good. The blue sky is awesome also. It’s a hard choice of which one is better. For some...the wallet will decide the outcome. You can’t go wrong rather way. Blessings

    I went for RV-6 just because I feel like Boss have been making pedals for so long and are just very competent at it. My understanding is the Strymon can get a wider variety of ambient sounds, but for me I want a good basic range of reverbs and if I want clever sounds I'll be using synth pads on Logic so much of wat makes Strymon better does not add any value for my playing situation.

  • @ioannist.5568

    The difference would be obvious when someones runs in stereo.
    Boss is an amazing pedal though and the price is unbeatable. They know what they are doing.
    For those who want the blue sky, I guess saving a little bit more for the big sky would be ideal.
    In any other case Boss all the way.

    Honestly, I have the RV-5, and it is too late in the cycle to upgrade to an RV-6. I tried the RV-500, but it's too big for me. I'd have to get a new board. I was hoping Boss would release a RV-200, something between the RV-6 and RV-500. So, I'm going with either the BlueSky V2 or Flint V2.

    What I find interesting is that practically every reverb comparison video is Brand A, B, or C vs. the Boss RV6 (kinda tells you something). The Big Sky is certainly stunning, and for the price, it better be. In my humble opinion, it isn't stunning enough of a difference to justify the extra money - certainly not for guitar, where, when the dust settles and we've had our ooo's and ahhh's messing around with the controls, we'll most likely choose two or three settings and that'll be it - and of course we'll have a bunch of other pedals messing things up a bit more. If you don't think you'll ever use an expression pedal, or the more unconventional settings on the Boss, then you can save some money and get a Digitech Polara (which sound great). The Strymon? If you're a Doctor/Lawyer jamming with his pals on the weekend, here's your chance to impress everyone with how much you spent, and how it sounds with your Mesa Boogie, and PRS. If you're a Keyboard/Synth player? - This pedal should be at the top of your list to check out, and consider if you have the funds. All this being said, Boss is the benchmark for a reason.

    Nice comparison! I have a Boss RV-6, and I'm looking to get another reverb that's a step up, most likely the Blue Sky. The RV-6 is a good all-around reverb, but I don't use all of the settings, and I wish I had more knobs to work with on the settings I do use (plate, shimmer, mod), so the Blue Sky seems like the most logical upgrade.

As the show went on, I noticed he’s not using those Vintage units, he’s using a couple Boss Vintage Fender Spring Reverb pedals (remember those...they look tweed colored). How do they sound with a little Distortion?

    • @aaronjlivecchi
      @aaronjlivecchi  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Essentially the same. As long as reverb is after the drive pedals. Unless you’re using amp gain. The. You’ll want to probably put them in an effects loop in the amp or the verb trail will be distorted and hard to use

    Dude, rv6 is a likely better. Strymon blue sky is like the hall of fame, opposite sides of the same coin. HoF sounds muddy and the dry signal gets swallowed up. The Blue sky sounds tinny and changes your guitar tone for the worse. And no, I don't have an agenda. I own a Strymon Flint, which I'm happy to say it's the best out there. It'd just that strymon fan bois cope with how much some of the product is subpar.

    • @aaronjlivecchi
      @aaronjlivecchi  Před 5 lety

      Hahah. Hmmm I’d have to think about it and search. Def not a reverb type I use often. I also tend to set it very very subtle when I do use it 🤷🏽‍♂️. I do know of the two here. I preferred the Blue’s shimmer personally.

    • @glittr_prince
      @glittr_prince Před 4 lety

      A lot of Coldplay, U2, Explosions in the Sky, Hammock, Eno, etc. make exemplary use of shimmer. Definitely depends on what style player/songwriter you are. Shimmer can be a good way to introduce a twist of lime to your music, though. (BTW, I also think Blue Sky has the best-sounding shimmer, though Neunaber Immerse is close.)
