I think the other members' understanding of English has always been greater than their confidence in their abilities to use it. I think a lot of times Joon will nudge them because he knows practicing is the best way to improve. Jin studied in Australia for a few months when he was younger so I believe he has the basics but is just rusty for lack of use, but notice he's usually the second most talkative in English interviews. And there's a running joke that Suga is secretly fluent because he can be seen laughing at jokes or starting to answer questions before Joon even translates.
As an addendum, Namjoon was born and raised in Korea too, his English is self-taught. And he himself has said that it's harder to keep up the language skills without people/environment to practice. The first time the went to the US for the BBMAs in 2017, he was so stressed trying to represent the team properly, field subtly racist and xenophobic comments, be a leader, but yeah...he admitted In a live how after that day, he had a horrible headache and ended up calling ameeting, telling the guys that he's just like them, his mother language is Korean too....they felt sorry and bad for him and promised to work harder and learn some English for them. It's gotten better over the years. They now have an actual translator with them most of them time, whose job it is to help them out. And ARMYs try to tell them that it's fine, we're here for their music, not their English skills, don't stress about it. But they've all greatly improved in English! Many of them are taking lessons. RM never really took special lessons like that, so sometimes you can see him fumble for a word or see his brain get tired, but the man's a genius, you can just tell that he's self taught. So sometimes he'll have the most complex vocabulary, but it'll be easier for him to write than to string together sentences on the spot. His grammar is good tho, but sometimes you can tell from the syntax that he started with Korean

There is this other band called Tomorrow by Together (TXT) which are BTS's juniors since they are from the same company BigHit Music. Initially there was a lot of pressure put on them for being the "next BTS" but they have grown in their own skin and surpassed expectations that were set since the beginning. A lot of rookies have the chance to learn and grow from their "mistakes" and build little by little, but TXT already had such high expectations that they were not allowed to make mistakes basically. Glad they are now known as TXT and not as "little BTS" anymore. Hopefully you give them a chance, their music, content, and personalities are great!
Yoongi's new album drops on 21st, it's almost 20 days so I believe extending RM week is a good idea. You can check out his collaboration songs, compilation etc ( btw he is called God of destruction by us because of how clumsy he so you might want to react to it too). And for Yoongi, he has a lot of songs too including collaborations so you can start early to catch up with that to be ready by the time he drops D-Day.

Lovely Mono review wow! Jungkook and Taehyung are the two youngest and “always get into trouble and yelled at together” 😂 also one of RMs “jobs” in the group is to take care of Taehyung as I think each of the older members have a specific one of the 3 young ones they look after (JHope - Jimin, Jin - Jungkook, Rm - Taehyung and Yoongi is the soft but cranky grandpa) this is very generalized but rm has said it’s his job to room with and look after Taehyung (who often gets called RMs baby for this reason in these compilations but really the 3 youngest are everyone’s kid brothers). And RM can’t do a lot of basic things like driving or cooking and breaks and looses everything so the other 6 all look after these basic life skills for him. Rm in an interview said he took one look at Tae and knew that this kid is so mischievous he is never going to listen to me”. They have some of the most awkward and ridiculous interviews over the years, they always end up so hilarious. But it’s sooo painful and bad that Yoongi has resorted to starting his own show “Suchwita” just for the purpose of giving the guys a place to let him talk with them and ask good questions about their solo projects. The same 5 dumb questions are sooo bad.

For the « next BTS » question, the industry has been literally obsessed with finding the next BTS. They want to get rid of them so bad and that’s a story for another time 😂 And to add a little bit of context kpop groups usually stay for only 7 years (their contract duration) and even if they signed another contract they rarely can stay relevant because companies rather invest in new younger groups
I got a lil choked up on his interpretation and review of mono. You felt exactly what I felt when I listened to it. That's why mono is now a part of me. Namjoon is more than my bias. He's the human that made me feel like I didn't need to be invincible all the time. He made me feel more human than I ever did. So when I say he's my bias, I mean he's my kindred spirit.

9:22 they have labelmate juniors known as TXT / tomorrow by together who they love and adore a lot, and was their company's first group in a long time after BTS. a lot of ppl expected them to be "the next BTS" but I would say that group stands on their own feet perfectly well, and don't try to be BTS. Besides TXT, there have been PLENTYYYYY of attempts by other big companies to cash in on BTS' success and name to promote their own new groups as "the next BTS" or "avengers of Kpop" or whatever and have never really seen success in that route because BTS' success has been extremely organic and kind of non-formulaic and mildly unpredictable at times. You just cannot replicate the accidental fateful popularity explosion and genuine fan love these guys generate.

I used to know a lot of English, I used to understand everything that people said but I never spoke and until I did I had a lot of problems because I was tremendously shy/was scared to speak and make mistakes (maybe not as much as these guys, Asian are *usually* special -- as a teacher of a 2nd language, I learnt in sociology that even with exceptions, there are cultural reasons for people from some regions to behave this or that way while learning)

About the juniors: their company, BigHit Music only had them and senior artist (WONDERFUL vocalist, check him out!) Lee Hyun. They debuted a new male group in 2019 named TXT (Tomorrow x Together) and even though BTS adores the "babies" (as they call them) and the babies admire and love BTS to pieces as their seniors and also as big bros, they actually have a "hidden" really good relationship: hidden precisely bc they didn't want that to be counterproductive for TXT as they would label them as "BTS' juniors"/"next BTS?" so they have waited until TXT has a solid career and fanbase to let see snippets that they actually are really close. (TXT are 5 members and they are adorable imho and have really good music, RM helped with one of their songs: 0x1 Lovesong). :D

Unfortunately, especially in the K-Pop Industry, after a group or artist hits their late 30s and (very rarely) their early 40s, the industry tries their damnest to forget about them, take them out of the spotlight, etc. Very few groups reach 10 years, let alone 20+

The "juniors" that was mentioned is a translation of the Korean word hoobae(후배), which means someone with less experience in a given field, and seniors or sunbae(선배) are those with more experience. So in school for example hoobaes are those who started after sunbaes, and in the case of the music industry and BTS here, any artist that debuted after BTS are considered their hoobaes or juniors. So it's not like there is an actual BTS jr. anywhere 😂 Btw if you watch interviews of other Korean musicians who started after BTS you will notice them calling them BTS sunbae-nim or Bangtan Sonyeondan sunbae-nim to show respect - the -nim ending is a honorific that expresses respect and formality.

Jungkook and Taehyung are the two youngest and “always get into trouble and yelled at together” 😂 also one of RMs “jobs” in the group is to take care of Taehyung as I think each of the older members have a specific one of the 3 young ones they look after (JHope - Jimin, Jin - Jungkook, Rm - Taehyung and Yoongi is the soft but cranky grandpa) this is very generalized but rm has said it’s his job to room with and look after Taehyung (who often gets called RMs baby for this reason in these compilations but really the 3 youngest are everyone’s kid brothers). And RM can’t do a lot of basic things like driving or cooking and breaks and looses everything so the other 6 all look after these basic life skills for him. Rm in an interview said he took one look at Tae and knew that this kid is so mischievous he is never going to listen to me”. They have some of the most awkward and ridiculous interviews over the years, they always end up so hilarious. But it’s sooo painful and bad that Yoongi has resorted to starting his own show “Suchwita” just for the purpose of giving the guys a place to let him talk with them and ask good questions about their solo projects. The same 5 dumb questions are sooo bad.

And to add a little bit of context kpop groups usually stay for only 7 years (their contract duration) and even if they signed another contract they rarely can stay relevant because companies rather invest in new younger groups
I got a lil choked up on his interpretation and review of mono. You felt exactly what I felt when I listened to it. That's why mono is now a part of me. Namjoon is more than my bias. He's the human that made me feel like I didn't need to be invincible all the time. He made me feel more human than I ever did. So when I say he's my bias, I mean he's my kindred spirit.

9:22 they have labelmate juniors known as TXT / tomorrow by together who they love and adore a lot, and was their company's first group in a long time after BTS. a lot of ppl expected them to be "the next BTS" but I would say that group stands on their own feet perfectly well, and don't try to be BTS. Besides TXT, there have been PLENTYYYYY of attempts by other big companies to cash in on BTS' success and name to promote their own new groups as "the next BTS" or "avengers of Kpop" or whatever and have never really seen success in that route because BTS' success has been extremely organic and kind of non-formulaic and mildly unpredictable at times. You just cannot replicate the accidental fateful popularity explosion and genuine fan love these guys generate.
He’s also EXTREMELY clumsy, oh my GOD. Just don’t let that man hold anything.
Re: your commentary of mono- Joon said he most identified with uh good. And everythingoes affects me the same way. Before long, my face is wet with tears. And your summarization of it healing through pain is a good one. I can’t escape the dual feelings of everything goes, the positive aspect, where nothing, including unwanted, will persist. BUT there’s that damned other side of it, that everything goes, including desired things such as love, health, and even life, and for some reason I just can’t ignore the depth of it.

English is not my first language either, and I understand the panic. I used to know a lot of English, I used to understand everything that people said but I never spoke and until I did I had a lot of problems because I was tremendously shy/was scared to speak and make mistakes (maybe not as much as these guys, Asian are *usually* special -- as a teacher of a 2nd language, I learnt in sociology that even with exceptions, there are cultural reasons for people from some regions to behave this or that way while learning)
LOL yep Taehyung and Jungkook are “partners in crime”. Taehyung has said that he has never fought seriously with Jungkook when they were younger but that they would get in trouble together 😂

About the juniors: their company, BigHit Music only had them and senior artist (WONDERFUL vocalist, check him out!) Lee Hyun. They debuted a new male group in 2019 named TXT (Tomorrow x Together) and even though BTS adores the "babies" (as they call them) and the babies admire and love BTS to pieces as their seniors and also as big bros, they actually have a "hidden" really good relationship: hidden precisely bc they didn't want that to be counterproductive for TXT as they would label them as "BTS' juniors"/"next BTS?" so they have waited until TXT has a solid career and fanbase to let see snippets that they actually are really close. (TXT are 5 members and they are adorable imho and have really good music, RM helped with one of their songs: 0x1 Lovesong).

Unfortunately, especially in the K-Pop Industry, after a group or artist hits their late 30s and (very rarely) their early 40s, the industry tries their damnest to forget about them, take them out of the spotlight, etc. Very few groups reach 10 years, let alone 20+

The "juniors" that was mentioned is a translation of the Korean word hoobae(후배), which means someone with less experience in a given field, and seniors or sunbae(선배) are those with more experience. So in school for example hoobaes are those who started after sunbaes, and in the case of the music industry and BTS here, any artist that debuted after BTS are considered their hoobaes or juniors. So it's not like there is an actual BTS jr. anywhere 😂
Btw if you watch interviews of other Korean musicians who started after BTS you will notice them calling them BTS sunbae-nim or Bangtan Sonyeondan sunbae-nim to show respect - the -nim ending is a honorific that expresses respect and formality.
