I don't know if you're testing out a new format by uploading two deck techs, one with the old one with the new, but I definitely prefer this one. I like being able to see you talk about it as well as have the theme constantly on the bottom of the screen. Won't be heartbroken if we never see it again, but I really prefer this format over the other one 😊
Yep! Always trying to test and improve! Thank you for your feedback!
@@TheCommandersQuarters I agree with @peeporiot9948! this format of video was insanely nice to watch!
One of the finest salt producers outside of Stax and Slivers. You don't even need to blame Eddie for it.
Ever play nekusar staxx/group slug Pretty salty IMO
@Thrash hmm. Interesting. Any pointers so I could refine my Nekusar deck?
But, we're going to... right?😢
@@Shoyro if you want to get mileage out of Nekusar, you need to do two things: dictate tempo at both ends of the spectrum, and punish anyone not threading the needle on the pace you're dictating. Viseling/Black Vise, The Rack, Damping Sphere, and Ghirapur Orrery fit this role interestingly, punishing players moving too slowly or too quickly, either in life or cost. Also, Breathstealer's Crypt.
They're subtle, which means you're usually going to get away with them, but the sheer volume of chip damage they can force is nothing to sneeze at.
Also, consider Psychic Corrosion. With just Nekusar in play, it's a steady mill 4. Match it with a wheel, and it gets pretty crazed, really quick.
@@andrewamann2821 I like to play Psychic Corrosion, Notion Thief, Library of Leng and Wheel effects 😆😆 absolutly brutal
Hey, Mitch! Thank you for teaching so many people about the Lich King. Nekusar is my favorite commander. I would like to mention a couple things. Harmonic Prodigy is an amazing creature to run in the 99 of this deck. It doubles Nekusar's triggers. So each player will then draw 3 cards on their draw step and take 2 damage for each card they draw. It drains the opponents much faster.
Sangromancer is also an amazing card to help stabilize. You will gain 3 life for each card an opponent discards, as well as for each creature they control that dies.
If you pair these 2 cards together, you actually gain 6 life because Sangromancer is a shaman and prodigy doubles the triggers of shamans as well!
Then, if you're lucky, you can cipher Whispering Madness onto sangromancer and Whispering Madness becomes a triggered ability of sangromancer, which prodigy can again double! I have pulled this 3 card combo off multiple times and when it doesn't kill everyone at the table, you are definitely ahead with an absurd amount of life!
Holy crap! I love this idea so much!! Harmonic prodigy is going on order right now! I love my sangromancer and whispering madness together but I didn’t know cipher interacted that way!!
Thank you for your contibution, which card do you remove to include this 2?
There are some auras that works wonder with Nekusar, but I'll highlight a few of them : Sigil of Sleep is an Aura for a singular blue mana which says "Whenever enchanted creature deals damage to a player, return target creature that player controls to its owner’s hand". That's right, you can do boardwipes whenever you cast a wheeling spell.
Another aura to consider, at least for this version of the decks is Helm of the Ghastlord, which costs 3 and a Dimir (blue or black), which says "As long as enchanted creature is blue, it gets +1/+1 and has “Whenever this creature deals damage to an opponent, draw a card." and "As long as enchanted creature is black, it gets +1/+1 and has “Whenever this creature deals damage to an opponent, that player discards a card.” So not only do you draw cards whenever Nekusar deals damage, but you're making your opponents discard a card when they draw... Which is a more devastating effect than I realised.
Oh. My god.
Building nekusar atm… thank you sir because these will be in the deck
Good stuff, thank you for that!
Nekusar is great... Getting Tergrid out.. and watching her last until your turn when you then pop off 5 wheels... Is golden.
dear god. yahh i think that's a pretty good answer to why people don't like tergrid 😂
Blue has leyline of anticipation. Keep 5 mana, make them think you've got a big counterspell or two, cast Tergrid at end step before you, wheel everyone for everything. Even harder to respond.
Really loving the new format! Not much a fan of Nekusar but I 100% have to support the amount of effort that goes into these videos! The thing I like the most is seeing which tactic were on and exactly how many cards are within it. Knowing right of the bat that the ramp package consists of 10 cards is just nice information to have on the screen while watching you explain them!
Thank you for your feedback! Glad you like it!
My Nekusaur deck tech clocked in at a much higher cost. I'm really impressed you were able to keep it so low and still looks solid. Great video Mitch 👍
If anyone allready has or have plans on building Nekusar, i cant reccomend the card Curiosity enough, 1 blue mana for a enchantment aura for Nekusar that says you draw a card each time Nekusar deals damage (NOT COMBAT DAMAGE ONLY) to a oppoment, so each time they draw 1 card, you draw 1 card, so 1 wheel effect draws you about 28 cards
sounds insane. combine this with something like wizard class. and you can even turn any creature into lethal beatstick. though you might mill yourself. i think that risk is very fun to not plan around
Yea that card is mandatory for Niv Mizzet but I can see ppl not considering Curiosity for Nekusar...maybe more just overlooked
Run phyresis instead and give people infect when they draw
Curiosity is great in Nekusar. Ever heard of Elder Mastery? It's brutal.
@@jasonbuchanan7974 lol yea i own the card, played with it once and saw that it did... now it collects dust in by collection hehe
The fact that this popped up while I’m making my nekusar deck😆 I’ve added sheoldred and nivmizzet in this deck
Google knows what you're doing at all times lol
I play nekusar in a very high level cedh pod at a local shop. This is a really great video highlighting a lot of good combo cards. I just wanted to mention that a lot of the cards you mentioned. Glint horn and psychosis crawler are 2 I can remember will go infinite or win you the game with 1 single other card and no commander. They are really great!
Thank you thank you thank you. I have been waiting to see a Nekusar deck tech on this channel for the longest time! I have one of my own and have been wondering how to make it run better.
Jace's archivist can help wheel, gnat miser can lower hand sizes and environmental sciences can help ramp
I never really thought of the wheel strategy. One card that would really work with it is the Library of Leng. For .36 cents and 1 generic mana, you can keep your cards.
Recap: it's an artifact that says you have no maximum hand size and whenever a source causes you to discard, you may choose to discard to the top of your library instead of your graveyard. If it's random, you can look at the card first.
Wheel, keep the cards you want and trade out the ones you don't need.
I had a modern wheel deck like this. Buring visions, vision skien, everything he said basically. Spiteful visions and frantic visions. Very fun
My first commander I ever ran, the deck wasn't mine but I immediately started building it.
My Nekusar deck is one of my favorite group hug decks. I want them to draw cards, more cards, ALL THE CARDS! 😂
I love using phyresis and minds aglow to get the whole table to kill themselves with infect.
Couple decent upgrades are: Phyresis, Grafted Exoskeleton, Corrupted Conscious
One of my favourite finishers is Peer into the Abyss, so brutal😆
Yessss! Someone mentioned phyresis. I always make heads spin when I play it against unknowing opponents. They read it and go “how?” Case minds aglow or any discard draw spell. I love prosperity. X 1 blue draw x cards. Hit X for ten with phyresis congratulations you just won 😂
By far, to this day, my most remembered and notorious deck
I really like the new format. Makes the parts of the deck much more clear and makes it easier to see how the deck works as a whole. Keep up the great videos!
Ah Nekusar my first EDH deck. I'm glad the golden pig is Phyrexian Tyranny. The other for me is a bit pricey but back when I bought it was quite cheap in Iron Maiden.
Solphim Mayhem Dominus is actually a really good card to have in this as well in my opinion, doubles the damage on those effects and even tho it's slightly more expensive than Nekusar himself, with this deck being so budget friendly I think it's a worthy addition with all the triggers we're going to have.
Also with the new secret lair coming out I'm tempted to include waste not in it and do some zombie tribal stuff. With the amount of discard triggers we're definitely going to be getting a couple zombies from Waste Not, then I would include cards that buff and multiply them like endless ranks of the dead, Death Baron, Liliana's Mastery or Bladestitched Skaab.
Dang dude first Aesi and now Nekusar, two commanders I actually use haha
This was really humbling for me to watch. As a modern player that moved to EDH because the play groups moved and grew more to the edh side I found it hard to switch off the I want to win button..I have won alot of edh games in my groups and it's starting to feel bad. Like you said no one wants you to win so you become the target but because of this you just make your decks stronger and still manage to win..I've only just built a deck that uses no tutors, infinite combos and auto wins. And played it last week. It actually felt really good, I done "the thing" and didn't win and still had lots of fun..maybe I caught myself just in time before I become the bad guy..I hope so..cheers for the cool humbling content Josh, Rachel, Jimi ❤
Burning Inquiry is like, a dollar, and seems like a good way to make use of both Nekusar and Megrim effects - everybody draws three, and then discards three at random. Sure, the random discard aspect could harm you, but doing a potential 9 damage seems alright.
I run a very similar list to this with Kess instead of Nekusar. While kess is a powerful commander, her as your commander doesn't tip your hand as early as nekusar does, meaning you don't draw the ire of the table till its to late and you have the pieces in place for the pain to start. In my experience, having nekusar is like waving a big flag that says: I am going to make drawing pain.
I used to play a casual fun multiplayer deck that used spiteful visions, jinxed choker, sulfuric vortex, toil//trouble, and then as the surprise finisher, angel's grace to not die on my turn and watch as my enemies take tons of damage, that they can't lifegain out of in their upkeeps. it was surprisingly effective because almost all of the cards involved are "low threat" cards because they're fair and do damage to everyone.
Received part of this guy's precon back in 2013/2014 or so...
...and I've been improving the deck off and on, to the point I've actually kicked cards like Corrupted Conscience out. First real EDH deck, and I was able to get Wheel of Fortune for about 60$ before the price spike.
Also, the deck runs enough redundancy to get a wheel win without Nekusar on the field.
I genuinely play my Nekuzar as a hug deck 😢
But I think my favorite card in the deck is Seizan
I have a few questions regarding possible upgrades:
(maybe you can point me in the right direction)
1. Would it make sense to upgrade the mana base if I had lands like shocks, flips and such?
2. Does this deck not need Sol Ring? (and why)
3. Are there any other possible upgrades (I thought of Memory Jar as another painful Wheel)
Thanks in advance and for the great list.
(And also I would love to see some Jeleva Deck tech as well as maybe some general guidelines to upgrade mana bases and cards
1. Shocks and flips make just about any deck better. Use em if your play group is cool with it
2. He doesn't include Sol ring because it's over $1. It's a great card though and you should include it if you have it (same with any other fast mana)
3. He used to do "break the bank" versions of his decks, but that seems like something he's drifted from. I'm sure there are upgrades out there, but I'd bet they're over $1. If your budget accommodates it, I'd check out edhrec and see what other folks run. You'll likely find other incredible draw spells
If you're looking for non-budget advice, I'd check out Tolarian Community College here on CZcams. Great stuff. Especially if you're thinking about mana bases, the advice will be almost generally the same. That's the fun stuff about budget builds though: surprising folks with how powerful your deck is with cards people don't play 😁
you love to see a nice interaction in the youtube comment section!
@@DonnieWest Thank you for the tipps.
Will definitely look into Tolarian College.
For me it is still unclear how to change the mana base when upgrading to sth like shocks (what to cut).
I used to run memory jar. Didn’t like it. On turn 5 do I cast memory jar. Or drop my commander? Also. I use jace on 5 to milk people. I run rise of the dark realms AND hammer of purphorous mill them. Steal their creatures. Give them all haste. Ggs
I love Nekusar, but my playgroup has turned it into a counter/destroy on sight card so I have had to disassemble my deck and try and fit him into another one I can tutor/fetch for to surprise people
I personally play Nekusar poison wheels. I laugh like skeletor every time I wheel the table🎉
“F-you He-Man” I can picture Skeletor saying that to He-Man after a wheel effect haha
Hey Mitch you missed helm of the ghastlord. Definitely a card worth running.
I'm glad that I just bit the bullet and bought a Forced Fruition, that card is amazing with Nekusar!
I love you are highlighting the old commanders
So question. How many commanders have these "opponents bleed when they draw" theme going? Have an idea to try and cram as much toxic commanders in a single deck with that as a unifying theme under the legends matter jodah at the helm.
Two cards that are a must have are thoughtsieze and prosperity. May not be budget friendly, but they are huge
I've watched a couple of these and the big card I think is missing is Black Vice. It's a one drop and colorless, plus your opponents are going to have a bunch of cards in hand and they will take the damage in their upkeep before they get to discard.
You forgot niz-mizzet, parun I know cost a little bit more but worth having in the deck along with something to give lifelink to nekusar
Nekusar is one of my few decks I have built right now. Interesting thing though is that I win more by having people discard cards instead of drawing them. Megrim and Liliana's Caress out, and popping Memory Jar once does a huge chunk of damage, and I have a couple ways of doing it again. Also as a defensive tool I use Ensnaring Bridge, which seems counterproductive for the deck but few people are ready for it so it works more often than not.
I really like the format with the card price showing!
I run a suite of auras. Elder Mastery, sigil of sleep, helm of the ghast lord, curiosity. Slap one on Nek, fate unraveler, kederekt parasite, or creeping bloodsucker.
okay THIS is the last budget deck im building...promise. hahah ty for the content!
i want to play this commander! punish draw and discard and then play wheel after wheel after wheel it's like a chainsaw! i love it!
A video about my boy! I've waited so long.
My oldest deck that I’ve never disassembled is Nekusar. Can be a truly frightening deck but people’s greed can mess ‘‘em up, I love it
Best card in my Nekusar deck is Helm of the Ghastlord. It’s an aura you put on Nekusar. Because he is black and blue he gains both abilities. Whenever this creature deals damage to an opponent, draw a card. Whenever this creature deals damage to an opponent, that player discards a card. One wheel effect and your opponents discard their hand, draw more cards, take damage from Nekusar, then immediately discard all of those cards.
My brother also runs Elder mastery for a similar thing, if he deals damage, they discard 2 cards.
Nekusar doesn’t really attack much. I don’t see it as really good. I prefer using phyresis. Gives him infect. Make them draw ten cards. Ggs
@@johnnoreau3570 he damages them every time they draw. It doesn’t have to be combat damage
@@birdman9580 didn’t read the “deal damage” part right. Sorry man
Fate Unraveler as another instance of Nekusar/Underworld dreams didn't make the cut?
With release of Bloomburrow with all of its Gift Card creatures, could get even more vicious.
I run a nekuzar deck. Everyone hates it so I do t play it often. I love it though.
Nekusar is one of my personal favorites!
a long time ago, a friend convinced me that Psychosis Crawler dies when Wheel of Fortune is cast, so I stopped using the Crawler. It was today when I finally learned that it does not actually die XD
I’m about to building it, can’t wait to play it 😎
Nekusar is a huge pain in the ass for my playgroup. But it always makes for interesting games.
I love my Nekusar deck
Nikasaur is one of my favorite decks
After watching this I'd definitely recommend a less budget version though
I don't know where moxfield gets its pricing from, cause everytime I try to buy a deck using the lists I have on moxfield, I pay anywhere between 2 and 5 times the amount that moxfield lists, even using heavily played cards. This is not taking into account the shipping prices either, which is also ridiculous
Thanks help added upgrades to my already existing
Sick beats at the end
Needs more Phyresis, Teferi's Puzzlebox, Notion Thief, Forced Fruition 😉
Notion Thief seems bad in this deck.
@@falcovanhoorn oh yeah😆😆
@@dracosfire7247 not with Psychic Corosion and Library of Leng😉
@@falcovanhoorn how about Breathstealer's Crypt for maximum pain?😉😉
@@falcovanhoorn I love consuming in my nekusar deck
holy sh*t commanders quarters uploaded a budget deck tech
I wonder if Howling Mine would work. Or maybe it's too much of a drawback, since you get the bonus draw last?
Phyrexia tyranny has killed me so many times in my own Nekusar deck.
2:37 And first up, of course!
First deck I started with and always kept around. Called him my bully deck since "why are you hitting yourself?"
Any recently released cards that you think could end up in this deck?
If you wanna splurge, a Sheoldred the Apocalypse would make this deck amazing
First ! Nekusar shall live !
i love nekusar. want to see the kitted out version for comparison vs mine. also budget freindly nightmare addition. black vice and viceling. hey how many cards are in your hand at the start of your upkeep.... *evil grin*
I used to run black vise, too. Until I found out it was erratad to only target one opponent chosen on etb.
Nekusar is just brutal in general and can be taken in... interesting ways. Deck I have is a lot more mentally intensive to work with and forces you to keep tabs on a LOT of different aspects of the game. Drawing cards? Take damage. Discarding cards? Take damage. Going into your upkeep? Take damage. Casting things? Pay costs! Attacking ME? How dare you, pay MORE mana. Have an artifact deck? That's nice, take damage.
It's just weird 1/4 of my own version of the deck is Enchantments....
Sounds really interesting! Especially a heavy enchantment version. enchantments are hard to deal with. Do you have a link to a list?
Teferis puzzle box is fun and mirror made copying Teferis puzzle box. Makes life harder
what about peer into the abyss?
The new Sheoldred is amazing in this deck
Yeah, but she is too great and expensive to dont run her as commander and play it mono black
Nekusar with obosh companion since all wheels are odd
My first deck
Can anyone tell me what's the name of the song at the end of the video??
I want this!!
Just add a proxied Sheoldred and this deck becomes a killing machine
i have a Nekusar deck for years now and i stopped playing it like this because it's just so easy to disrupt. I have no fun playing cards that dont do anything on their own and waiting a turn to get the other pieces, not to mention giving your opponants cards and thus loads of answers for your slow settups.
I rarely won with the deck without getting extremely lucky. 40 dmg to all is a ton and even with a decent settup active it's not a win.
People see their life go down, they all get their answers and you are the first one losing your board.
I now play the deck exclusively with 2 dmg+ cards and no discard dmg as those require a third piece. I run all the good wheels still offcourse, but even with some strong ramp you cant really play multiple without having put up very vulnrable pieces up the turn before(or multiple turns.)
So all those card slots are filled up with control and chaos cards. You will need a lot of defence if the burst dmg isnt good enough.
I honestly never have seen a Nekusar deck that goes all in on it's theme dominate a table past PL5. And i am talking about including giving Neku Infect.
Run phyresis instead. Make dealing 40 to 4 people 10 to four people.
Phyresis gives nekusar infect. Then you cast prosperity or minds aglow.
It’s not terribly slow. You just play nekusar one turn. Enchant with phyresis on your next. Then use whatever wheels you have to make everyone draw 10 cards
I replied before I saw the end where you said even giving him infect. That’s usually how I win with no issue
@@johnnoreau3570 The infect route is the power rout and not all this extra dmg on draws yes.
But people keep hyping up the "just add more stuff like Nekusar himself to the deck" and that annoys me a bit as that only works against pre lvl5 decks. So many card slots wasted on doing the same thing (putting a giant kick me sign on your head)while having little to no defense.
Giving Neku Lifelink is fun though, but still a half measure.
@@welkijken I use protections in mine such as. Monastery siege. Pay more to target my stuff. Orb of dreams every permanent enters tapped. (Doesn’t matter when all my permanents are mostly enchantments and artifacts) I used to run winter orb too. I run the 1/4 artifact creature that only allows one attacker and one blocker during combat. Propaganda etc. it’s always a hard match because nekusar’s whole thing is trying to deal damage with draws. A lot of people are wary of it so you gotta slow build into it gotta put down one piece at a time and protect it with counters.
I cant find link to deck list
turns [Peer into the abyss] into an insta kill
No Tainted Strike? You know..for the one potential board kill.
I saw ping for 1 and thought, what about kelermoph
where deck list??
Is Mitch just updating old deck tecks?
you know it's a flavor fail this power wasn't on a vampire. cuz it pings two times at the start of each opponent's turn. bite bite. like a pair of fangs.
I have such a deck for a while..... :)
Why Obscura fetch? Maestros fetch is better for this deck.
At $38, spend the $5 more and throw in Solphim, Mayhem Dominus
I think a new term should be made for effects like Nekusar. "Group Shrug"
I'm pretending to be group hug while I actually group slug and hope everyone will shrug it off.
Nekusar, my main man.
A friendly reminder to anyone looking to build this deck, Nekusar will attract a ton of removal. Personally, I run Seizan, Perverter of Truth. Unlike Nekusar, he himself isn't a hate piece, he enables other hate pieces in your 99, and by building mono black, it's much cheaper to afford a decent mana base
Can i get a deck list?
its wheel time
Me over here with my 1000 dollar Nekusar deck (granted one of the cards in there is Wheel of Fortune so that's a decent chunk of it) 😬😂
All this sounds good but you need your commander on the battlefield to really do anything. It’ll probably get removed over and over again.
hence the boots and counterspells but yah you gotta think about that if your commander is important to your strategy. altho.... i don't think this deck would be totally dead in the water without nekusar. if you have even a couple of your punishers out then every wheel is a threat.
the funniest thing i ever saw was a nekusar deck running hivemind for multi wheels, and ended the game by casting enter the infinite.
No elder Mastery?!
I call my Nekusar deck: St. Nickusar.
All I do is give gifts.
be careful, they explode! 🎉
Golden pig should be force fruition . When ever a Opponent plays a spell they draw seven cards… 🙏🙏🙏
You know, honestly you can tell who properly builds their decks and who improperly builds their decks based on how they react to wheels.
neat
