And we, your audience, know how much was going on at the farm and in your personal life at the same time. Thank God for your family and farming community. So pleased you have shared this. Non livestock people have no idea the stress and costs of a TB reactor can have. Scares the hell out of me. Not sure about the gamma test people tell me it can be savage. It’s time somebody stood up to the tree huggers and we start to address the badger problem. TB is spreading north year by year, current methods are NOT WORKING. Farmers know it and the vets know it.

Every video you put out demonstrates how hard you work, your integrity and transparency in what you do, and how deeply about your herd and their welfare. Tom: Here in Michigan, we had an outbreak some years ago with T.B. in our herd. It was discovered they got it from a nearby feral deer sanctuary that had a massive outbreak. These deer were never hunted and were kept by a wealthy landowner who was opposed to deer hunting and culling of older or sick animals. The Department of Natural Resources came in and harvested over 1500 deer in one day. This stopped the outbreak and we were compensated by the wealthy landowners land insurance. Deer hunting on your land should be a must to control diseases brought in from the wild!

Deer are everywhere around the farm. There are stock fences for cattle but deer just hop over. There's not one huge landowner all way round the farm who could blamed for a failure to control deer. This is not USA.

We’ve been struggling with tb for the last 15 years on and off. The test is unreliable, the compensation is rubbish and the stress on us farmers is unbearable. The reason nothing is done to change the system is the fact that the vets are earning good money out of testing-it’s there bread and butter. Our vet said there would be 50% less vets at there practice if they didn’t tb test. As a result there’s no motivation for the vets to do something about it they are happy ticking along testing away, if a Covid vaccine can be made and given to humans in 2 years how has it took over 30 years to make a tb vaccine!? Sit tight and enjoy the ride Tom it will only get worse unless something is done- good luck 🤞🏼

Oh Tom, I'm so sorry you and the team are going through this. These episodes are breaking me and I'll never own a cow in my life. But you do, and we're invested. Wishing you all the strength and resilience you all need to get through. Also some sleep for you and Jo. Perhaps naps. And milkshakes. Lots of milkshakes ♥

Something needs to be done to clean up the wild population. I feel that there is undue financial and emotional stress being inflicted on farmers for the notions of conservation, rewilding, and similar initiatives. We live in a managed landscape. What we see is not wild anymore. We should accept this and proceed accordingly. I was sorry to see your distress. You take good care of your stock and treat them gently and with respect. Watching a few cows being born should reawaken some optimism. Regards, Stephen. 👍

Tom, my heart goes out to you 💔.
I'm not a farmer, but on my uncle's farm in Kerry, I can remember the testing day. The atmosphere was very heavy around the yard. And then the waiting for the results. Thank God he was clear .
Keep your head up. You're not the first and you won't be the last farmer who has to fight this.
They have all come back. This is something that we, the public, should be aware of . Farming is NOT easy. 50% hard labour, 50% worry. Isn't it amazing how they have NEVER come up with a vaccination or cure in all these years, but a covid shot overnight 🤔
All the best from Ireland 🇮🇪 👏

You're right Tom, surely prevention is better than the stress you've had to go through. You mentioned avian flu, it is known wild bird life in New Zealand are carriers of TB as well as opossums

We had TB in the Netherlands, where all our cows were culled by the government
All silage grass and cow manure has also been destroyed by the government
started all over again with an empty farm 2010
Good luck Tom, I sympathize with you

Grew up on a farm. Own a farmette now but surrounded by bonafide livestock farms. Sad for the stress you and your neighbor farms are having to endure. Relieved that the entire herd was not wiped out. Hoping that the "deer as carriers" problem and the over reaction to the positive testing of one can be solved. Profit margin is small enough and it's heartbreaking to lose an animal, especially when the test is inaccurate. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts.

  • @RoadkillbunnyUK
    @RoadkillbunnyUK Před 6 měsíci

You all have coped and managed the herd so well through this and you had so much going on last summer as well. I’m sure you had the breakdown moments and the tears, I have never known a farmer who wasn’t devastated by the loss of an animal in these circumstances, especially the animals that were probably OK. You understand, well more than that, you are completely behind the reasons why it needs to be this way but it will never stop you wanting to lash out as you grieve both the loss of the animals and work through the reality of the major repercussions for the farm and the way you do business in the future. You and the Pemberton family have my respect and admiration.

Hi Tom I hope with your media platform you can highlight the tb situation ! Seems the protection on badgers etc is completely wrong! Along with deer spreading tb yet nothing drastic is done about it other than cows being slaughtered to save the so called cute badger !
    Make some noise Tom!

I think the problem is the government and the general public care more for wildlife than they do for cows/cattle .......but when you have a farm and cattle on it it is very frustrating and makes us farmers angry when we see our animals having to be slaughtered and the only answer the government seems to have is keep testing your animals and keep taking away the reactors........if this strategy worked fair enough but it's not working the T.B problem is getting worse rather than better
