  • Seven week sago I had a Kerastraight Smoothing Treatment at the Trevor Sorbie Salon in Covent Garden - here is my review, a behind the scenes and an honest assessment of how and if it works.
Any formulating chemists out there can help me with the formaldehyde issue please?

hi, great review. i had mine done again just before lockdown. my hair is curly and frizzy.. i still needed my straighteners - if you have that type of hair its not going to be like a straightener. Also Kerastraight have now started selling the Intense boost so you can do this at home - which is great to keep it looking good while we are stuck inside.

Woop!! Thank you Nadine!! I've offered Kerastraight for about 4 years now as an awesome de-frizzing service. For me the USP's are that its offered by Trevor Sorbie who cares immeasurably for his client's hair, that the product is rinsed out of the client's hair before drying and ironing so that there is little if any fumes coming off, and that it reduces the drying time after treatment.
I can't comment on the formaldehyde question as I'm not a chemist, but the results on my clients have been fantastic and many have said it gave better results and for longer than other systems they have tried, with a much more pleasant experience.
PS also loving CeraVe Hydrating cleanser in the morning!!

I read online that formaldehyde is what’s actually used to bond the keratin to your hair. So a lot of treatments say they don’t have formaldehyde but they have a very small percentage and the smaller percentage ones need to stay in your hair longer.

Kisses to Yogi 🥰 Nadine, by the way, I don't know if you have tried the Davines Nourishing line. The Keratin Restructuring treatment and corresponding shampoo and masks are really good for damaged hair. Also, for blondes, the Davines Finest Pigments Ash and Pearl colors mixed in 2:1 provide an excellent shadow root without any damage; they are very sheer stains. The brand uses mostly natural ingredients; it's what they claim, but I found some of their products to be very effective as well. I am not a natural ingredient freak by any means :) Maybe you could try them out; I have been a self hair colorist for over 20 years, too.

The solution for strong virgin, resistant hair has additional glycolic acid,(in the form of a booster) this has only to be used on virgin hair. Not coloured nor weak. Result= breakage. Your scalp got dry because the solution somehow came in contact with your scalp( it shouldn’t) but if your sensitive, then rinsing it will still cause it to come into contact, the reason for this is because the solution is very acidic( ph 2-3) skin will dry out with anything lower that 4.5. I refuse to do in the salon and did it outside.clients loved it. They wanted to do it in my hair and I was like I like the option to wear my hair curl. I can just blow dry when I want my hair straight. I don’t recommend this Anyone using this. About the brand: KeraStraight (Original Formula)
Kerastraight is based in the United Kingdom. In August 2010, testing by the Department of Health and Children in Ireland detected 2% formaldehyde in the original KeraStraight solution and issued a product recall. The manufacturer responded by reformulating in late-2010, and in January 2011, launched a new product, KeraStraight KS Complex. KeraStraight KS Complex is advertised as “a 100% Formaldehyde and Aldehyde free keratin smoothing treatment . . . independently certified by Intertek.”

I’ve been getting Kerastright treatments at home in America for years. 10 years ago, the treatment was more effective , but you could tell they were not good for you as they stung my eyes during treatment. Now, I can only rough dry and have my head smooth for a few weeks. I have thick, wavy/curly hair . I get this done 2x yearly as it is so expensive. In America I color my head right before the treatment, which locks in color and keeps it looking shiny and dark for ages. I wash my hair 2x a week and try not to wash the keratin out.

My friend worked for a chemist years ago and he told her the same thing, if a shampoo when tested by popping a little bit on the end of the tongue and it tastes salty it will strip your hair and dry it out. That being said I do use Magnesium Sulphate on my scalp to help shift the dead skin cells and remove excess calcium which collects in the hair follicles and causes thinning - I find it has had an amazing effect on my frizzy hair. 1 - it has thickened the hair shaft, 2: I am not losing as much hair in the wash or throughout the week and 3 it has smoothed the hair shaft so there is not as much frizz. . I use cannot use many sulphate free shampoos and it took me ages to find a shampoo which didn't trigger contact dermatitis on my scalp . I use La Roche-Possay Kerium Physiological Soft Gel Shampoo . My son also uses it because he, like me, has the same problem with contact dermatitis and shampoos.

Are you still using this treatment? I gave up on Keratin treatments last August because they felt too unsafe with all the fumes. I also noticed that it was doing something funky with my scalp and also making it smell weird. Also when the treatment started to wear off my hair looked and felt so much worse!! Like a weird Cotton Candy feel. Now summer is coming and it’s the first time in awhile that I won’t have the treatment to help me fight frizz in this SoFlo humidity 😅. I wish the zero formaldehyde treatments actually worked so I could have an alternative lol. This is the first time in years that I’m embracing my naturally curly/wavy hair. I have a love hate relationship with it and relearning how to like it and take care of it. Keratin treatments probably aren’t really best for me anyways because I also have to wash my hair a lot or I’ll get a greasy scalp even though I have thick slightly dry hair. Weird combo and hard to balance lol

My hair is wavy and I am very lazy in that I just comb through and let dry naturally, scrunching with fingers. Does keratin treatment make your hair smooth and shiny? There is no such quemical anymore in some products BUUUT there are some other chemicals that substitute it so.. yeah.
I am a professional Cosmetologist and I know that Formol is the first thing you worry about, but it should not be the ONLY reason to worry about when it comes to a keratin treatment.
It ended up very well anyway :3

You probably have curly or wavy hair. It’s damaged from all the heat and bleach. I bet if you let your hair just be it would be stunning.

Hair Botox treatment is supposed to be good. More of a smoothing treatment
