As an actually stylist, Brazilian Blow Out is just a brand name of keratin treatment. Majority of keratin treatment has formaldehyde in them except for a few brands. A lot of salons make you wear a mask if they have bad ventilation. At the salon I work at we have specific vents just for keratin, and we also take a lot of steps in order to make it safe for ourselves and our client and other clients in the salon. For example doing it during a late appointment so there aren't as many people in the salon, having multiple fans blowing away from your chair, and having a door open. In the state of California there are some salon that prohibit doing keratin treatments because of OSHA. You can do color the same day as keratin it is just suggested to do the color first. And beware that the keratin does strip some of the color so your stylist might make your color darker just to compensate for that. It isn't the formaldehyde that strips the color it actually is the flat ironing that does. Brazilian takes away 80% of frizz, 50-70% of curl pattern depending on how strong the pattern is, cuts down 80% of dry time, and makes your hair super shiny. Thin hair can do this as well if they are frizzy. But if you're thin with no frizz I wouldn't suggest it. This doesn't make your hair grow if your looking for that it just kind of heals it as your growing your hair out. It's suggested to get it redone every 3-6 months depending on how curly/frizzy the hair is, and what products you use at home. When doing a keratin/Brazilian you can't use any sulfate or sodium chloride shampoo. Basically anything with salt. So like beach sprays even. The steps for Brazilian are 1. Clarifying shampoo 2x 2. Section into 4. 3. Brush onto thin sections and comb through. 4. Blow dry 100% 5. Flat iron 7-10 passes based on coarseness of hair 6. Rinse hair with no shampoo. 7. Apply Brazilian serum 8. Blow dry (no curling) DONE! This may vary based on brand. Most people charge between $300+ I know this is a lot of info but I wanted to make sure people knew before spending a crap ton of money on this service.
thank you!!! this was super helpful! Like I mentioned in the video I am also learning since this was my first time getting this treatment done and I have never done a brazilian blow out so I appreciate the info!!!!
I have 4B/4C texture hair and back when I had red color in my hair after getting the Keratin treatment it turned my red a honey blonde (which was beautiful). Price wise yea I spent around $495 + tip but I think it was well worth it. My hair looked and felt amazing, little to no tangling, dried quick and had such flow to it. Not to mention my hair grew faster.
i know curly hair can be A LOT MORE frizzy, but i have wavy? hair and it basically always looks like shit because some hairs get like 6cm away from the rest and i have lion hair
YES!!!!!! Please do the video on your hair! I always hear these beauty bloggers talk about how they can go forever without washing their hair and I'm over here like WHUT?! I know personally I would benefit from that video and I'm sure I'm not the only one!
Here in Brazil almost everyone have it. I did it for like 10 years. hahaha The only thing you must be aware is that 2 months after the treatment, you must start a deep moisturizing treatment twice a week. specially if you do this often (every 3-4 months). This because the formaldehyde based technique masks the damage in your hair. Two months later, when it starts to come out, you will see it. But if you treat your hair, you'll be fine. aaaaaaand here in Brazil we all know that it DOES damage hair. but we just don't care and do it anyway because we love the results. kisses!!
Juliana Mérida do you know if the keratin treatments without formaldehyde damage hair??? I just got one, and thought it would make my hair healthier, but I did notice that it lightened my hair color and I can't help wonder if that's damage... 450° flat iron...
@@keithpaglinawan5092 thank you, that makes sense. Oddly, even though my hair in some ways has the appearance of better health after the treatment I can see damage... I'm sure the ironing isn't a good thing at 450 degrees...
With this video I have realised how much CZcamsrs help me with my decisions. When I want to buy makeup I always watch Melissa's reviews first, and I watch another channel if I want to buy an electronic device etc... I have always wanted to get a brazilian blowout but I'm a student and it's an expensive treatment so I didn't want to risk my money but Melissa's hair type, skin tone, eye color is all the same with me so anything that works on her works on me too!! I can't thank you enough for this video Melissa you are truly my hero, love you so much
This was fun and informative! I'd love to see a week in your hair life series. I have dry hair but super oily scalp; wish I didn't have to wash so often, haha. You have a great channel!!
You are seriously one of my favourite CZcamsrs! Your videos are extremely helpful to me since we have about the same hair type/colour and skin type/colour and I couldn't really find any tutorials that worked for me before I found your channel. You are so underrated!
Great video. I've had a few treatments done and I absolutely love it. My hair is naturally curly so this helps a lot with all the frizz. It also made my curls a little more relaxed, softer curls. I've also had the Brazilian blowout done, and I loved it too. made my hair a little straighter and super smooth.
I know many girls who Came here and saw her flawless wavy hair hearing her complaining about "fizziness" I have a very curly hair that got heat damaged I cut my ends and did the keratine treatment and this is the BEST!!
I don't wash my hair frequently too! It's 100+degrees here and if i feel nasty from sweating I just rinse it with water every day, and shampoo it every 4-6 days
Looks great Melissa. Thanks for the info. Don't feel gross about only washing your hair once a week or every 5-6 days. Alot of people I know who have very thick, curly or dry hair, such as me aren't supposed to wash their hair any more than that. It strips out the essential scalp oils and dries your hair out even more. You are so adorable and very talented and informative with your videos. Keep em coming.
I loved this video! It was so helpful and informative. Now I feel more comfortable getting a Keratin treatment after watching the process. Thanks girl!
Girls with fine hair, be cautious with this treatment! I have classic Northern European fine hair that is very porous and was quite brittle. I thought that keratin treatment was the perfect solution for my frizzy hair, so I got it done a few years ago. For about 6 months it looked amazing - silky, smooth, but the volume I used to naturally have was gone. Then when it I guess wore off my hair literally broke off from weird places. I had long hair at the crown and my neckline, but the hair on the middle part of my back head was all broken off to about 10 cm and sides too. I hadn't done anything differently, not experiencing any more stress than usual, so it couldn't have been caused by anything else. This was such a struggle for at least a year. It looked like I was wearing really bad extensions. I remember the girl just flat ironing my hair over and over again when the keratin was in my hair and I guess that fried it. Now I finally have normal hair, I found that taking MSM powder mixed with water really helped my hair to grow past the breaking point and help new hairs to start growing. I wouldn't recommend this treatment for people who live in a climate where in the winter it gets more than -10 °C.
Triin V try oils like castor oil, to treat your hair like for 30-45 mins the wash off with shampoo then take a small amount of oil n put it on the ends. I hope this helps :)
Oils like castor oil and coconut oil are too thick for my nordic hair. Luckily I don't have that breakage anymore, Joico products and Hask oils have really helped. :)
I had a brazilian years ago and I remember it taking 3-4 hours and some sleeping majority of that time. now after hearing about the chemicals involved i’m wondering if I was just tired or if I low key lost consciousness😂
My mom has been doing keratin for years. She does it herself at home, it works out really well for her. She sometimes colors her hair the night before she does her treatment and she has never had an issue.
Yes please! Show us how you go a week. I used to wash my hair every day, and am now down to twice a week but I'm always trying to figure out ways to extend the wash.
thanks for your info & this video. I finally got a treatment this year and am going to keep doing it at home with Keratin Complex line. It really made my coarse wavy hair into smooth/ shiny/ light waves
Thank you for this! The keratin will loosen your curls for a couple weeks, but they should come back after a few washes--but without the frizz. I had one done last year and it lasted around 6 months--I think using the shampoo and conditioner from the same line as my keratin really helped prolong it (I had Keratin Complex). I get another one done this Saturday, so I'm going to check out your product recommendations. Also--I'd love to see a vlog on how you maintain your hair daily; my hair is similar to yours, I only wash 1-2 times a week, and I workout everyday, so my hair can look pretty crazy mid-week, especially if it's been air-dried curly (vs blown out straight).
I would love to see how you keep your hair looking fresh all week! I feel like I can't go more than three days between washes. Thanks for this video!! 😊😊😊. Also, which is more damaging to the hair a keratin treatment or Brazilian blowout? I have had a Brazilian blowout which I love but I feel like it really damaged my hair by making it more fragile and dry. I have also heard that too much keratin can be damaging to hair, is that true?
Thanks so much for this video. I have thick, wavy hair that is prone to frizz when I air-dry it. I might look into this because NYC summers are quite humid.
I personally tried Brazilian blowout several time, first week is amazing and it starts to wear off, even with sulfate-free products. After it goes away u will have a more dryer hair. Also each time you go to the pool or the ocean it goes away way faster, so beware of that. Thanks for the video, I always wondered if these two treatments could be different.
Omg I feel like we exactly have the same type of hair. Please do the video/vlog on a week without washing your hair. I have an extremely dry hair too and even my dermatologist told me not to wash it no more that two times a week. Your hair looks really beautiful btw 💗
I have been so curious and wanting to do this on my long thick hair for so long! This was so helpful. I wish I lived in LA and I'd go to your excat guys! Hopefully I'll find someone in Albany (NY) that can do as good of a job.
I just got mine done August 1 I have very curly hair but love it straight...I get it done every 4-5 months & color & my hair is very healthy I totally recommend this treatment & please have it done at a salon
Now I want a Keratin Treatment because my hair is just naturally dry and frizzy 😭 and I have a bit of curl too. But things can get a bit expensive soooo 🤔😤
I got an express keratin treatment (lasts 5-6 weeks instead of months) and it did absolutely nothing for my hair. No frizz reduction, no loosening of curls etc. and it burned my eyes/thoat. I would love to get a full keratin treatment if it worked but I'm scared it won't do anything for me again and I'll just get the bad side effects
Such an informative video and always wondered what the difference was between a keratin and brazilian. I will be looking to see how long it will last on your hair!
Similar but different!! ive had 2 Brazilian Blowouts. i loved them! my hair always gets back to its frizzy curly, normal state. I will never straighten my hair again. I love my curly hair! You are gorgeous any way u have your hair, thank u for this!!!
We were told to colour AFTER the keratin treatment as it strips the colour. Here they just hot iron the treatment in. Love seeing all the different techniques. Love to know which is correct now.
I recently got a Brazilian blow for the first time and I love it! It didn't changed my hair texture that much and my hair is like yours. It just made my hair have more beach waves! It honestly looks so much better because if the Brazilian blowout!
Arely Ayala Tellez I had the Brazilian blowout too and I don't know who told her that because my hair didn't change either. It's still curly. I talked to a lot of people who had a kertien treatment and they said it destroyed their hair.
Megan Rock, I asked the same thing to my hairstylist because I wasn't sure if I wanted to get rid of my waves. She told me that it wouldn't change the texture of it. Although, on all the websites that I read about Brazilian blowouts they kept saying that if you have wavy hair it'll turn straight. I just think everyone's hair is different so maybe for some it did change their hair type but not for all. I'm really glad mine didn't change!
Hi Melissa......You should wait at least 10 days before colouring hair after a keratin treatment. It lasts 3-6 months. My hair is like yours (coarse, thick, and curly) and it lasts about 3 months. I've been doing keratin for about 2 years now and I love it. 😍❤️ Glad you love it too.
Ninja m.alatorre!!! 🙎🏻❤️ Your hair looks absolutely gorgeous. I would love a video on how you prolong your hair between washes, you favorite dry shampoos. Oh and definitely want to see the spicy noodle challenge with Kyle 😂🔥🔥🔥
A video on not washing your hair would be so helpful! I struggle so hard with not washing my hair, I almost wash it every day. I know it is so bad but I just don't know how to style it, so I just wash it. My natural waves disappear when I sleep on it :(
charlotte simon just get a sulfate free shampoo. Your hair will be washed without the damage from the shampoo... you’re not supposed to shampoo your hair everyday .
Hii Melissa, usually nowadays here (in Brazil) when we do these treatments they say they don't use formoldehyde anymore because like you said it not good for our health. I don't know if thats true, really, but we have lots of different kinds of treatments. Also, I didn't know you called it "brazilian blow out" abroad, thats so funny !
+Melissa Alatorre I have been doing Keratin treatment for almost 6 years now. My hair looks way more strait that yours though after the treatment. Basically, I need to keep the product on my hair 72h then wash it (no water, sweat or humidity recommended in that window). If you want to dye your hair or have highlights or whatever you wanna do, you need to do it before the treatment because the keratin will lighten that color; when your hair is prepped and washed before the treatment, the point is of course the clean your hair but also to open the follicles for the keratin to penetrate when applyed on wet hair then is sealed with the straightener. So what happens is that all the dye leaves your hair when the follicles are open, causing the color to become lighter. So if you don't that to happen, you need to do that after and your hairdresser needs to be using products compatible with keratin or the treatment will be ruined. It lasts me anywhere between 4 to 6 months. I start having wavy baby hairs first, then the rest becomes wavy again progressivly. I hope this helped you ! xoxo
You look super pretty without make-up! Love your hair super straight. I get the Japanese Hair straightening, may try this one, since where I live now no one does it..ty

I was going to sleep but melissa just uploaded a vlog video 😍... i love it btw
wow Melissa, you are sooo beautiful, with and without make up! amazing! love and kisses from germany!
Been waiting for a video like this - I've been trying to decide between the two ❤︎
When I did a karten treatment I was given a special shampoo. But when I finished I used baby shampoo as an alternative and it worked great.
Thanks so much for this video. I have thick, wavy hair that is prone to frizz when I air-dry it. I might look into this because NYC summers are quite humid.

Now I want a Keratin Treatment because my hair is just naturally dry and frizzy 😭 and I have a bit of curl too. But things can get a bit expensive soooo 🤔😤
very helpful. thank you :) this helped me choose a keratin treatment instead of brazilian blowout!
I get an organic keratin treatment, no chemicals no gloves or mask and can get as many as I want in a year. So in love with it!
Can u let us know what you use or link it please

Although, on all the websites that I read about Brazilian blowouts they kept saying that if you have wavy hair it'll turn straight. I just think everyone's hair is different so maybe for some it did change their hair type but not for all. I'm really glad mine didn't change!
Arely Ayala Tellez same! my texture when I had it didn't change at all. It did help w the frizz and disguised my damaged ends though.
love the comments on this video, learned so much
Yes please on the keeping your hair fresh w/ not washing video!!
I did it once and it realy made a diffrence in my hair
Hi Melissa......You should wait at least 10 days before colouring hair after a keratin treatment. It lasts 3-6 months. My hair is like yours (coarse, thick, and curly) and it lasts about 3 months. I've been doing keratin for about 2 years now and I love it. 😍❤️ Glad you love it too.
Awesome explanation and vlog. Latinas in the house!!!
Ninja m.alatorre!!! 🙎🏻❤️
Your hair looks absolutely gorgeous. I would love a video on how you prolong your hair between washes, you favorite dry shampoos. Oh and definitely want to see the spicy noodle challenge with Kyle 😂🔥🔥🔥
Melissa! What was your lipstick here?? I need to know! 😭
This is very helpful. Thank you!
How to not wash your hair. Dont

Please do the video of your hair! I would love to hear your opinion on which dry shampoos work well!
Girl!! My hair dries within 30 minutes! Haha! I can't imagine HOURS!! You have amazing hair though and it looks good!
2 seconds into the video and I gave it a thumbs up cause Melissa never disappoints!!!
thank you for sharing, you were informative and detailed.
You are such a lovely bubbly person 😊❤️
Btw you look more beautiful without make up 👍🏻✌🏻
+Melissa Alatorre I have been doing Keratin treatment for almost 6 years now. I hope this helped you ! xoxo
Rimette it depends how curly your hair is. Mine is very curly so curly roots show up pretty quickly for me.
Nick!! I JUST saw him in Amanda Ensing video!!! Honestly, i liked her hair B4 the straight hair.. i thought it looked adorable wavy and bouncy!!
Hiii Melissa! I just subscribed to your chanel. Very helpful. I am planning to do the Keratin treatment! Thank you!!
Yes! Give us your tips and tricks to make it last without washing it!
You look super pretty without make-up! Love your hair super straight. I get the Japanese Hair straightening, may try this one, since where I live now no one does it..ty
Is it better to apply the keratin product on washed and then blow dried hair or semi wet hair after just washing it??
Omg your hair looks so silky. 💇♀️ Oh and in downtown Montreal parking restrictions are so complicated we go straight to underground parkings 😉
