I doubt it very much.
I do a bit of hobby machining.
I've tried to make scriber's from bicycle and motorcycle spokes, never been able to harden them as they don't have high enough carbon content.
Used worn out needle gun needles (pneumatic descaler) several times though as they have enough carbon to be hardened and even new are cheap compared to buying a 'known grade' of steel rod 3mm (1/8") diameter
