    Will do! Thanks for the comment and realizing I would have been remiss to not have mentioned that....

    I got this kodiak in 2003 and still have it to this day. It might be missing a headlight and the grill on the front may be falling off but it still drives.

    I figured you'd say something like that (very professional in my opinion), and I appreciate it. But don't worry we just putt around literally and always on flat ground. Thanks for all your info, I will be buying one as soon as I find the right one, and I can assure you my kids safety is second to none. Keep up the good work!

    Not sure....We always talk about the Kawasaki diffs being noisy though. I have always noticed a reflection of noise with the metal front skids. I'd change the oil and what I've done to some of the machines with metal skids is remove them and put a strip of foam tape between the skid and the frame...

    I personally prefer the Kodiak. Mush smoother and a bit more powerful engine. Better front suspension.

    Thanks that helps a lot, one more thing, I'm 6'1" and usually have 1-3 kids on with me, my question: is the big bear that much larger than the kodiak 400 to notice or is the difference negligible? The more room the better for me. Okay one more question, would it be better to get less aggressive tires with open diffs? Thanks, this will be my first 4x4 and yamaha is a must for me.

    I'd stick with 25s. The biggest problem isn't clearance, it is how much power they will rob and how much more they wear driveline components.

    Go to our website - everything we've done is all categorized. You can look through all our tests by year and once in the year, by make and model.

    They are the same unit TheBonhamfam dude! If you rode each side by side and they had different tires on each machine, the diff would feel and work completely different from each other. On limited slip differentials, the more aggressive the tire, the worse the dif will work.

    hey im looking at some new mud tires for my kodiak 400 and im not sure how big i can go with out a lift or any wheel spacers? i was thinking about high lifter out law tires?

  • @Pavone30
    @Pavone30 Před 13 lety

    i have a 2004 yamaha bruin its similar to the 400 but no irs you guys should have tested it! I love the machine no Hi/Lo though :(

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  Před 12 lety +2

    The Kodiak and the Big Bear are the same size. Less aggressive tires are better.
    Please consider the consequences of hauling that many kids on your ATV. Many serious accidents are because of too many riders on an ATV. The added weight (in the wrong area) can cause the ATV to more easily flip over on hills and the kids are at double risk - one; their inability to get free from the ATV, and two; the size of the ATV hitting them. Perhaps you should look at a UTV....

    Hey ATVTV guy, how would you compare the open differentials on the big bear 400 and the kodiak 400? Are they the same unit? Comparing the two it seems like the kodiak has an inferior front diff. Thanks dude!

    I'm thinking about getting a 2000 yamaha kodiak 400 4x4. Are they dependable and is that year a year that they had a choice between 2 and 4 wheel drive? Thanks and I love your vids!

  • @ilovequads2
    @ilovequads2 Před 13 lety

    Ok I got that kodiak :). Do the new ones have high/low gears because I didn't see any in this video? My quad has high/low and it's a 2000.

    Big surprise I have more questions! I ended up getting a 2002 Grizzly 660 w ith 1300 miles. I remember on a few of the yamaha reviews you guys (was it you??) said the front differential was "noisy", what kind of noise were you guys (you?) describing? It sounds to me like the skid plate rattles at or below 15 mph, but in 4wd the noise lessens or go away. Is that the noise that was described? I'm going to service my front diff tonight. Thanks for all your help and I love the Grizz!

    did you ever do a test on the 2000-2002 kodiaks that had the auto with low range? or a prairie 400?

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  Před 14 lety

    @Roootrocker228 Back then they thought it was a big deal to have a switch to switch between 2wd and 4wd!

  • @ATVTVCOM
    @ATVTVCOM  Před 13 lety

    @Pavone30 Just don't put too big of tires on it.... And perhaps change the filter. Other than that nothing. That way it will last forever.....

  • @Roootrocker228
