He was also related to the Knight family, Dr John Knight who was more famously known as Dr James Wright, who in actual fact had time for Chopper. The doctor was worth hundreds of millions of dollars through property investments. Chopper was connected to a very wealthy family, he had connections that would have helped him if he had any inclination towards an education and a life of working. But being sexually abused, his father's reaction to that along with the bullying, helped him to go down the victim path. The only thing the SDA church and his mother failed to do was to help him to understand why he needed Jesus.

He obviously had a tough type of upbringing, but so have lots of people. Definitely had a victim mentality, blamed SDA, father, mother. Architect of his own demise, everybody has choices, he chose the dark over the light.
Physically, sexually, verbally and emotionally abused and neglected as a child, tortured in a psychiatric hospital as a teenager for 6 months, diagnosed as at least partially autistic and potentially psychopathic, witnessed his therapist hang himself when he was a kid, bullied to hell, and helped his dad haul corpses of suicide and homicide victims for a living when he was a teen. Those things are not just "having a tough upbringing" and pointing to them as being something that contributed to his criminal lifestyle is not playing the victim. The fact he wasn't the most prolific serial killer or mass murderer in Australian history is a testament to the man's self control. The "story" about Syd was total crap,[not that Syd was a wonderful person by any stretch:/] he shot him out of nowhere while he was in a car driving to Launceston from Evandale pub a short distance away after a drinking session, then made up a total crap story about it, like so many of his yarns. The books were full of tall storys. The guy spent most of his life in prison, thankfully:/ One night in a pub here after he took umbrage at something minor a guy said, he followed him to the toilets and bashed and kicked the shit out of him while the guy was having a leak with his back turned. So many idiots idolize this fool when all they know about him is his books. Hardly a source of truth:/ Even Charlie Manson could have written books that made him seem just a misunderstood scallywag:/

@@findout6903I can answer that question. I knew various members of his family. His cousins lived in Beecroft and were a wealth SDA family, none of whom engaged in a criminal life. He was also related to the Knight family, Dr John Knight who was more famously known as Dr James Wright, who in actual fact had time for Chopper. The doctor was worth hundreds of millions of dollars through property investments. Chopper was connected to a very wealthy family, he had connections that would have helped him if he had any inclination towards an education and a life of working. But being sexually abused, his father's reaction to that along with the bullying, helped him to go down the victim path. The only thing the SDA church and his mother failed to do was to help him to understand why he needed Jesus.

Architect of his own demise, everybody has choices, he chose the dark over the light.
Physically, sexually, verbally and emotionally abused and neglected as a child, tortured in a psychiatric hospital as a teenager for 6 months, diagnosed as at least partially autistic and potentially psychopathic, witnessed his therapist hang himself when he was a kid, bullied to hell, and helped his dad haul corpses of suicide and homicide victims for a living when he was a teen. Those things are not just "having a tough upbringing" and pointing to them as being something that contributed to his criminal lifestyle is not playing the victim. The fact he wasn't the most prolific serial killer or mass murderer in Australian history is a testament to the man's self control. And if you knew anything beyond this 9 minute video, you would know he fully owns up to the fact that he is responsible for his behavior, and outright denies the idea he is just a product of his environment

Because we all know that criminals who avoid cops and hang around criminals their whole life always get caught for everything they do. Not to mention, most of the things he claims got done in the short span between long prison sentences, so there was not as much chance of him getting investigated for it.
