Okay I have loved BNL for decades now and yet I used to think I would have described them as a band with humorous lyrics and they have those but they are so much more. Maroon is such a great album one of my favorites but I think lyrically they can both make songs funny and also tell a great story and they are like nobody else. I love this song.

Kinda disappointed in this song. BNL was my first concert and I love their music. This song is even easy listening and invokes the sound I want from BNL.
But it sounds like this is just another attempt to write off that yes, you're responsible for the things you say.
Sure, there are a lot of people with loud voices that get upset about trivial things. With the internet and everyone having a public voice, that isn't going to go away.
But there are matters that do absolutely need defending and should be respected, and this song seems to be the same kind of language that de-legitimizes those concerns.
There are times when you should watch what you say. Your age doesn't preclude you from respect and polite interaction. There are always things to learn. You being static against a dynamic world is a problem.
I hope I'm wrong about the bands views on these things, but this song seems like a dog whistle.
Tldr this song is tone deaf and I hope it's only about petty loud voices and not about legitimate problems.

Love the lyrics and I believe some listeners are missing the whole point. If passive white gnomes that are part of one's cultural heritage should be cancelled so should the Frozen movies. The Ladies have always had great lyrics that are not literal. The whole song Adrift is written that way. Are they not warning us that people in glass houses still exist only this time they are louder and recruiting their own Proud Like Minded Folk to point faults in others. @@joshuadoyleitanimulli4139 In some of the interviews I've seen I think the beef is really between Ed and Steve. Because it seemed like some of the band members were hoping they'd get back together. But I could be reading into it wrong. Either way if they really truly made up, I think they'd be back together now.
@@LarryHendricks77 tyler seems especially bitter as well. Kevin and Jim are still on good terms with Steve, last I heard. I read that after the Junos reunion, Steve reached out to ask about doing a full reunion tour, but BNL said no. Ed doesn't care how bad they sound live now, or how mediocre the music they release is as long as they keep making money. It's a similar situation with Mike Love's Beach Boys or the current incarnation of Styx. It's just shameful to hijack someone else's legacy and run it into the ground like this. BNL would never have released something this tone deaf with Steve in the band. Compare this song to his track "White Noise". They disparage Steve in interviews too, like the "not a retrospective" doc where Ed and Tyler say how happy they are to be touring and making music with people they like. Not only is it disrespectful, but they music they make now just sucks and it's obvious Ed has been phoning it in for over a decade. They set out to prove they could make a good album without Steve, and AIGT was a good album, and they've been cashing out ever since. This isn't a band anymore, it's a money machine.

This is pretty disappointing to be honest, cancel culture isnt ruining people's lives - what they have done themselves is ruining their lives. Its taken FAR too long for people to stand up for what is right, and calling people out for what they have done in the past and what they are doing now is absolutely a positive thing. Cancel culture never ruins the lives of the people who are on the "right side of history". The nationalistic socialists in WWII-era Germany thought that cancel culture was great! Maybe it’s just the way I’m interpreting it, but I couldn’t disagree more with your take on “cancel culture”. It’s about consequences. And as for things that have “become offensive”, usually they were always offensive- it’s just that people are speaking up for those people were targeted. We’re evolving. We’re getting better as a society. Or at least some of us are trying to.

I disagree... I think the problem that many today fail to understand is that "offense" is subjective. It's good to be sensitive to what could offend someone and why, and to apologize when offense is taken, but I've found that many of the things labeled "offensive" are surely offensive to some of whatever group people feel could be offended, but that a huge number of people from that same group are not offended.
...Because offense is subjective.
We gotta do our best to treat people with a spirit of love, repair ruptures when we accidentally hurt or offend someone, and then move on in a spirit of love. Part of what it means to love is to have grace, and that seems to be lacking.

Yeah I don't know how to take this. I love BNL, always thought their views aligned with mine but this misses the mark for me.
There are definitely corners of the Internet where cancelling happens when it shouldn't and that there are serious consequences for minor infringements, but 9 times out of 10 that's not what's happening. It's mostly people (with power) being held accountable for saying and doing bad things, which can only be a good thing in my eyes.
Are the guys being cancelled for anything? I certainly wasn't aware, and I can't off the top of my head think of any lyrics that overstepped the mark.
