Chris has better Internet connection than me
lol
also probably a higher paycheck and a better voice ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
oviwrites uh, yeah he probably does cause you know, internet works on like satellites or whatever, which are like in space, or something.. much like the ISS
Cian Mansfield Actually the vast majority of internet connections are made by fibre optic cables under the ocean cos in general it's much quicker and cheaper to do it that way than by satellites

Chris Hadfield was the kid who couldn't decide whether he wanted to be an astronaut or a rock star when he grew up so he did both.
Perfect, Ashley.
No, he wanted to be an actor and that's what he became. Space is fake and nasa lies

Also he is like super smart and I think we need that too

Iconic Canadian moment. Anyone have to do this for “Music Monday” at school?
omggggg i had to do this two years in a row, music monday was amazing
I watched this video back 5 years ago with my music class
Yessir
Ryan Brown we did it but our connection was bad so we ended up doing it off timing
Yea, BEST MUSIC MONDAY EVER!, The whole school sang it
it's cool that a astronaut seems so down to earth

@@DanielAppleton-lr9eq Definitely one of the worst decisions made by the space program, but there will be hundreds more space stations in the future :)
Doesn't everyone? 😉😊
For someone in space, Chris Hadfield seems very down to earth.
Igor 21 ohhhh haa heee heat yeou sow fhunnay ha he so fhaeunny very smart yes
He's got humility, I'll give him that.
His Canadianism radiates.
Why am I getting emotional every time I watch this video?? I think the lines that do it for me are:
"What once was fueled by fear now has 15 nations orbiting together here." It just fills me up with so many emotions...
Also, I just love how he glances out the window sometimes :)
Thanks for sharing! Hard to believe a "simpler time" was only a few years back.
Weird, don’t you think?
Antarctica and “space” are untouchable
He’s glancing back at the greenscreen
You are getting emotional because it's a all out lie
That line gets me every time too... I honestly got all teary the first time I heard it.
And you flat earth conspiracy idiots can all go pound dirt.
When asked "What is the one thing you wish, from your time in space, you could share with the world, what would it be?" The astronaut replied: "I wish I could drag a politician up here and show him the tiny marble beneath their feet and tell them, 'See? You don't matter up here. None of you do.'"
Wow really puts everything in perspective. So all those people I had killed to fuel my political ambition don't matter? That stuff was really starting to weigh on me. Thanks for that, starman.
@@JamesJoyceJazz Nice strawman lol.
For as talented and a accomplished as Chris Hadfield is, in many fields, he's the most down to earth/grounded (pun unavoidable) and present I've seen. He has every reason to be a pretentious jerk, yet he is the complete opposite. Mr Hadfield is truly someone who's a pleasure to follow (online), learn from, be entertained by, and to emulate.
Thats what educated, hardworking people tend to be like.

Huh! 🤗
@Mossad, Israel did 9-11 What's your point?
Kinda makes a person proud to be Canadian.
Yep it does cause I'm a VERY proud Canadian!!!!! :)
dan walter: No offence, but what does America have to do with this? A Canadian astronaut and a Canadian pop band are singing a Canadian song for a Canadian TV network.
***** Oh, oh, dreadful partisanship there, emphasizing the VAST difference between a "proud" Canadian and a "very proud" American. Tch, tch. How old are you, Dan Walter? Don't you think it's time the U.S.A. stopped its incessant "one-up-man-ship "flag waving? Forget the Space Race my friend, and join the Human Race.
Bill Houston How did this get so unnecessarily heated? I seriously doubt he meant anything hostile towards anyone with his comment. So what if he 's proud to be an American? He should be, just as the canadians should be proud to be canadians. Further more don't attack someone for their innocent youtube comment simply cause you have an issue with their nation's agenda its not like he sought to shove Americanism down your throat he was just making an attempt to join in a conversation. That said i don't disagree with what you said regarding american one upism but i don't see how his comment is a relevant example of it "Forget the space race my friend, and join the human race"? Seriously aside from sounding cool (which it did so brava) what does that have to do with any topic at hand? Are americans not part of the human race? Are Canadians not part of the human race? Last i checked both were included in the human race and last i checked humans have the right to say anything they want regarding their nationality. Let the dude speak without giving him a rant on a forced and at the moment irrelevant issue.
Holymakinaw As well it should. Ya'll are kinda awesome. :)
I'd say the astronauts on the ISS are the luckiest people on Earth, but they're not on Earth.
lol
How are they lucky? XD They earned this
Do you know how hard there whole life was to get to that point? HINT: Really Hard.
Chad: And there are others who try as hard and… don't get lucky.
If you think that it's all just hard work and effort, and no luck: then you're just wrong.
Is near-Earth orbit close enuf 4 ya?
I haven't listened to this song since 2015 and I started to cry at 4:05
I know it is wired but it is such a inspiring line, bitter enemies coming together for the common goal of exploring of the universe.

@shillslayer While the video may not be exactly "live" with Chris' end being pre recorded, there are enough videos without cuts of pilots in microgravity that are far too long for any zero g plane. On solid fuel and wires
Turn the key and the light the fires.
We’re leaving Earth today
The rockets burning bright
We’ll soon be out of sight
And orbiting in space
Pushed back in my seat
Look out my window
There goes home
That ball of shiny blue houses everybody anybody ever knew
So sing your song I’m listening out where stars are glistening
I can hear your voices bouncing off the moon
If you could see our Nation from the international space station
You’d know why I want to get back soon (get back soon)
Eighteen thousand miles an hour
Fueled by science and solar power
The oceans racing past
At half a thousand tons
Ninety minutes Moon to Sun
A bullet can’t go half this fast
Floating from my seat
Look out my window
There goes Home (There goes home)
That brilliant ball of blue
Is where I’m from, and also where I’m going to
So sing your song I’m listening out where stars are glistening
I can hear your voices bouncing off the moon
If you could see our Nation from the international space station
You’d know why I want to get back soon (get back soon)
All back and white just fades to grey
Where the sunrises sixteen times a day
You can’t make out borders from up here
Just a spinning ball within a tiny atmosphere (atmosphere)
Pushed back in the seat
Look out my window
Here comes home (ho-ho-home)
What once was fueled by fear
Now has fifteen Nation orbiting together here.
So sing your song I’m listening out where stars are glistening
I can hear your voices bouncing off the moon
If you could see our Nation from the international space station
You’d know why I want to get back soon (get back soon)
You’d know why I want to get back soon (getting back to you)

Wow, this was my Grade 5 Music Monday song. It was such an awesome song... I still love it 9 years later.
I still remember, at the age, I really wanted to be a grown up and be 20 more than anything else. Now I'm 20, in my second year of Aerospace Engineering in university, and want to go back to being 11 more than ever. I miss the simplicity, ease, and fun of those times, and especially memories like watching videos from Chris in class and Music Mondays.
I know that when I'm 30 I'm probably going to look back at myself right now and be saying something similar. It really pays to live each moment to its fullest and connect with those around you.
I come back to this video 2 years later and it still fills me with awe. Commander Hadfield is such a great and inspirational man.

I miss them so much and anytime I hear this song it makes me so happy cause I remember how amazing Canada is. 😊
I saw Chris tonight in St John's and wanted to say that his talk tonight was amazing. The big thing I wanted to say specific to this was that He played the first part of this song and people (including myself) were singing along with him. He (Ed also) have touched so many people in Canada you are a national hero, It seems like another world wide solidarity song...especially after his talk about seeing borders disappear..(new verse).. You guys did something amazing and when I saw Chris with tears tonight after and then giving his guitar pick to the girl in the front row a couple next to me broke down.....Chris is an amazing ambassador and Ed you are too. Keep fighting the long goal about maintaining out planet for our future generations.
Love you both.

Your funny, but not in a good way , how do you know where we go when we die, you have never been there or know anybody that has. And if your god is willing to send you to the fiery pits of hell for writing a song he or she must be uncaring and intolerant and not in anyway forgiving. And you pray to this god which kinda makes you just as bad. So I think without proof of where you go when you die you are merely guessing and making it up.

Its hard to believe we have come this far with video and audio transmission from space.
I remember watching the first mission to the moon and all the stuff it took just to keep in contact with a delay and static.
I hope I live long enough to watch the first human walk on Mars, but I don't know if that will happen soon enough for my time.
My daughter will most likely see it, but hey she didn't get to see the first moon walk so i guess we are both even.

The moon is a lot further than the ISS though but I see what your saying
If you are under 70 you probably will
+RID COMICS Sorry to break it to you, but I really doubt they played together live, even with our amazing technology there will still be a couple of seconds delay, too much to make music together.
It's more likely that Cmd. Hadfield pre-recorded his bit and send them the files and the choir and band just matched that
I know that just saying he did play the song most likely per-recorded no doubt but its getting a lot better then back in the early days of space technology.
Cheers

Chris Hadfield is simply a gift for the rest of us to cherish.
OMG, this is awesome!! I just met him yesterday here in Dallas (at his book signing)! An amazing dude!!
Just read your book ('An Astronaut's Guide to Life on Earth') and now know the story behind the music and the clip. Thank you for being such a great inspiration for us Earthlings, Col. Hadfield. All the best in retirement!
You should read Chris Hadfield's "You Are Here" which consists entirely of brilliant pictures he took from space. I wonder about the mindset of those who suggest that Chris -after a distinguished and highly successful career as an engineering test pilot should be the remotest bit interested in being involved in a shameless video fraud. The notion is totally absurd. As a matter of interest, Chris and his brother Dave (whom I have met) are much involved in music making.
If anyone wonders about the technique in combining the sound tracks, Why not contact Ed Robertson himself who incidentally is a pilot too and owns his own aircraft. Seems much more productive than the mutual and mindless trading of insults emanating from people who don't know -or who don't want to know!
