- At 8.15pm on Friday, September 5 1997, the body of Princess Diana was taken from St. James's Palace to Kensington Palace the evening before her funeral. The Prince of Wales and Prince William and Harry followed the hearse. Tens of thousands stood along the route in near silence as rain fell with the darkness illuminated by thousands of flash bulbs. It was a true life changing week. A most peculiar, almost paranormal atmosphere settled on the whole Country and affected people everywhere. Those who were not born then really have no idea how weird and dirty it was. All our hearts were shattered and we were all in profound shock . It was a very odd, very moving, very sad, very special and very strange week for us all..... We went through the wringer for sure. For those of us who experienced it, it can never be forgotten...not ever.
The people were there because they truly loved Diana she was the peoples princess,we have respect for her she was kind beautiful inside and out she was brave wise and only wanted to be loved and have a family there is nothing wrong with that.May she rest in peace always

I've never seen such a moving funeral of a celebrity in my life. I'm saying this as someone very far from London and have witnessed other celebrity funerals in 30 years of my life.

It takes two to tango. Princess Diana had couple of affairs of her own. People are still wondering if Prince Harry is the son of Prince Charles. Feel so sorry that she died so young but no point blaming Prince Charles for this. The reason he turned to Camilla is because the marriage was crumbling already.

All these years later and it’s as incredible today as it was so many years ago. I’ve been watching old videos of her doing her work etc and the way people adored her was intense. I had forgotten what an absolute phenomenon she was. Watching Nelson Mandela visit her gravesite at Althorp and stating his complete devastation at her death was amazing.

Caz PK Unfortunately she was no longer a member of the Royal family after her divorce.
That meant she was not entitled to official security.
The Queen did offer security but Diana refused it due to Diana being paranoid about her movements being reported back to Charles and the Queen.

I still can't believe upto this time that the people's Princess, the Queen of hearts has long been gone out of this world. Just after loosing her HRH title then this happens, so I strongly believe that someone did this badly killing the Princess of Wales. I feel pity for her loved boys, William and Harry. And now, her two boys are not in peace which their Mummy won't allow had she been still around.
Princess Diana's remains left the mortuary after her remains had been embalmed and the body prepared by the undertakers. She was transferred to the Chapel Royal at St James Palace in London on the Monday after her death. There her remains were left in repose. On Friday 5th September 1997 it was transferred to Kensington Palace to be ready for the long funeral procession the following morning. Originally they planned to do this transport late at night, but they changed their minds, as they knew photographers would catch them
I bet if and when the Queen or upchuck dies the thousands and thousands of people that showed up for Diana would rather stay at home or go about there daily routine and not really care about them just be glad that they are gone, knowing that upchuck his dad and mom had something to do with Diana's death!!!!!

We ask governments in all countries to unite the bridge pillars as high as one or two meters so that if a car hits a bridge support, it can still slide not as badly as a car crashes into a bridge pillar so that an accident hitting a pillar like what happened to Princess Diana does not happen again
i always thought how disgusting the crowd was taking flash photos of the hearse. Not very dignified at all. A bit like the journalists were doing as they chased her to her death. Crowd should have stood there quietly not used it to get a picture.
What I find incredibly strange is that it took the ambulance 1.5 hours to get Diana from the wreck to the hospital. That should have only taken 10 minutes tops!
When you are transporting a woman whose heart had been torn to pieces in the crash, and who was having multiple heart attacks whilst in the ambulance - you do not drive like Lewis Hamilton in F1, you drive as slow as possible, to avoid killing the patient in the back.

Jennie Clement No, they didn't... The only people that could see the body when it was at the hospital before putting it on the coffin were her sisters, prince charles, members of the cleric, and her butler Paul Burrell. The royals did not allow her children to go and see her body.
My comments below are fact and not fiction - they come from someone (a world renowned trauma surgeon) who was asked to view the postmortem reports and photographs.
Her injuries were so horrific that her sons would not have been allowed to see her.
She had suffered severe facial injuries, and a badly fractured lower leg, which, had she lived, would have had to have been treated by a below knee amputation.
The actual cause of death was massive blood loss from a lacerated pulmonary artery - the marked delay in getting her from the accident to the hospital was a major factor - for her to survive she needed to be put onto cardiopulmonary bypass as soon as possible so that the pulmonary artery could have been repaired, and importantly the bypass would have supplied oxygen to vital organs - the brain and others.
The time spent on scene was time wasted!!!!
The severe facial injuries help to explain why none of the emergency personnel on scene recognized her initially.

Strange, in his book Harry recollects seeing the Union Jack on the coffin. I very much doubt that they removed the Royal Standard, put on the Union Jack and then replaced it with the Royal Standard again. He must be wrong.
