This is by far the best approach I use in my own practice: Replace unhelpful substances with something of substance. The moment someone decides to leave the old and embrace something more meaningful instead is the moment healing can begin. Shoutout to all those who have found their healing path. But, there are thinkers out there who do discuss issues similar to this. Dr. Phil is someone I've attempted to grasp when it comes to his concepts in his writings. Dr. Jordan Peterson is another one. I still don't see the above concept clear cut in books, but I just keep telling myself, and others, find the better thing to do. It's there but I am not trying as well as I can to get it.
