I'm just really getting into shooting. I did it as a kid at age 10 (backyard with no supervision) for a year. Now 31 years later, retiring from the military, I want to get back into it. I purchased a Aspen Centerpoint Archery 62"/45 lb recurve bow. I have 30" sp500 amazon carbon fiber arrows and a bicaster plunger and wire arrow rest. I watched your videos on how to setup my bow and not hurt myself or others. That alone warrants you applause. THANK YOU. You're a phenomenal teacher and have a natural gift to impart knowledge. Your non judgemental attitude and your POV is priceless.

As a supplement to regular video recording, folks might want to consider a Video Delay app, like “Bust A Move”. This provides a continuous video replay with whatever delay time you choose (e.g., 15 sec, 1 minute, or whatever delay). So you can make a shot and turn around to watch what you did, all without ever touching your iPad. It just keeps replaying with the chosen delay - like having a mirror with a delay built in.
I started using some of your steps in late december in my garage. shooting every day for about three months then I tapered down to about four days a week. My biggest improvement came from attention and direction. Then my release and your push pull method. I engraved those habits in my shooting. I been shooting wood bows for thirty years and have never shoot so well in my life. Thanks for all your knowledge Jake!
I shoot Olympic Recurve for myself, but I am also a certified instructor, and I mostly teach barebow using the NTS shot cycle. It’s absolutely applicable, and there are very few differences in technique between Olympic and barebow recurve.
The most prominent differences are, of course, the stringwalking and anchor position.
I suspect one of the reasons I got into Olympic style archery was because I was originally taught barebow using point of sight aiming and an under the chin anchor.
Jake, so glad that you’ve made a series for this. I’ve been into archery now for about 12 or 13 years, and the NTS discipline has been my formal foundation of the sport, and like yourself, I’ve ventured into the realm of bare bow as well after shooting a variety of compound, traditional, Olympic, and now bare bow........I can truly attest that this applies to most of the western Archery styles, and incredibly helpful in achieving very good success. Can´t wait. I started shooting 5 months ago straight into barebow. I shot the first 3.5 months just from what felt right and shot really nice scores. Then I read "Inside the Archer" and studied all your form videos, trying to be an orthodox KSL-barebow shooter. Of course, it put me "outside my comfort zone" and lowered my scores, but that is normal. Now I am starting to be more consistent and about to start improving my old scores. The most significant improvement has been the "set-setup", "tensión and direction", and most importantly the "transfer", which pretty much eliminated a creeping problem, which from watching videos I thought it was normal to overdraw and then come back "creep" into the hold and release. Thanks for all the knowledge shared.

I've used NTS for my barebow for about three years. I haven't used anything else and have been shooting OR style 8 years before that. I'm a Level 4 NTS Coach so applying to barebow was the natural progression for me. Still have to deal with the variability of barebow, but that physical and mental process helps me.

I have applied NTS/KSL shot cycle to my own shot system in Barebow, and I found it to be more easier on my body. Especially since I start archery relatively late and my body is not conditioned for archery unlike those that have shot push-pull or straight draw method since young kids or teens.

I have heard a wood glass limb is more durable than a foam core carbon limb also a foam core deteriorates over time???? Not sure if this is true? Whats your opinion? Thank you

Hi Jake - I wonder if I'm right that your tiller setup on a 68" bow is a 1/4" negative? Really 6mm?
Do you think it is a bad idea to start straight at this method if I never shot before?
My husband and I have been to a couple intro classes (those little 1hr experiences) but that is it. We are hooked and want to get into barebow... is this something someone with more experience should get into, or totally fine to be the first way of shooting for us?

Hello, i'm a huge noobie, started a month ago not even. You said you were going to do a series on Barebow, traditional and compound. What's the difference between barebow and trad? I have a Ragim matrix evo is that a barebow or a trad? Can I use all those teachings from the barebow form series and apply them to my bow? Is barebow just an olympic recurve without the mods on it? How does barebow compare to trad bows in performance like accuracy and power? Thanks for your time!
Hello Jake, I've been following you for a while now and am learning a lot Thank You. About 20 years ago I had won a few local tournaments shooting compound finger style, and for reasons I don't recall I stoped shooting. Through random CZcams channel surfing I watched finals at Lancaster that ignited a competitive spark at 63 years old.I just ordered a Galaxy riser because it was on sale and I have a cart full of the equipment that the fine people at Lancaster have suggested would fit my riser and goals. I have a question for you though , What's NST ? Thanks

Jake, can this shot system be used for compound's too?
yes and no. compound is a different animal. unfortunately, I haven't seen a series anywhere near what Jake has done here for compound. The stance, bow arm positioning, head position, back tension are all similar. Because the compound starts out full strength and then lets off, the draw cycle is different, and the release is different. The best reference for compound I have found is Larry Wise book "Core Archery".
