    trying to replace wes borland is just so damn hard.. hes so original and innovative.. double handed tapping and his knowledge of equipment and stuff like that is just insane.. he really is one of the best guitarists in the world despite what ppl may think.. it was never gonna happen.. you cant replace that originality and to expect anyone else to be able to come in and replicate it is just insane.. its too hard to write like wes..

    @georgeprodjex It's an early 90's Epiphone Sheraton II semi-hollow that's all stock. No distortion pedal. If I remember correctly I was playing through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier half-stack. Funny thing: I had never used a "real" amp before that and so I had no idea what to do with the channel switcher or amp settings until about 5 minutes prior to playing. I'd always just used a Digitech RP-3 through an old single channel Sunn. Fun times. Thanks for watching!

  • @criostoir07
    @criostoir07  Před 11 lety +75

    Thanks, it really was a pretty laid back thing. I think this is actually the 3rd song I played with them. We'd established a flow by that point and were able to read each other easily. As for a PR stunt - Absolutely. I think it's brilliant and deceptive at the same time, but isn't all good advertising? Everyone signed away the rights to their original material in order to audition, so the band suddenly had hundreds of new songs to legally rip off. Obviously it didn't pay off for them!

    • @notinterested100
      @notinterested100 Před 7 lety +13

      why would anyone give up the rights to their own stuff? That sounds insane. I'd never do that. Where was the incentive?

    • @nimitz1739
      @nimitz1739 Před 6 lety +4

      Fred Durst tried the same thing with the band Taproot. He offered them a audition to get signed to his label. But all the songs they would use in the audition would be signed over to him. No matter if they got the contract or not. And if your trying to get on a major label, you naturally would bring your best songs. Taproot declined Fred’s offer. And that’s when Fred left that famous voicemail to them talking all kinda crazy shit. You can find it on CZcams I Believe. He’s a shrewd businessman.

    They had at least 1 callback from each city. I was the only one from OKC that they told on the spot to come back that night. The other guy was sent home and got a phone call that afternoon. I think it was a brilliant PR stunt (I work in advertising now so I admire their audacity) and that they never had any intention of finding a "nobody" to bring on board. It was a fun experience nonetheless and I'm glad I was able to do it.

      believe it or not it actually wasnt a total pr stunt. This is the hardest time during the bands career. Fred was really hoping he would find that random freak that just brought it. Interesting thing is these days, i think that method would be a lot more fruit. Seems to be a ton more guitar players these days! Good stuff tho bro. Personally, I know i would of been to nervous. Also i can feel your pain on having to use the stack and not being used to it. So right away the tone your used to isnt the same.

    Thanks for coming.....Oh No....we'll call you.... *🙄*
    They are a top level band with great....not good but GREAT musicians. John Otto, Wes Borland....GREAT musicians. They weren't looking for average players. Fred has even stated in interviews how they didn't find anyone good with the "trials." Have you ever seen Metallicas Some Kind of Monster Movie and how Rob Trujillo joined the band? He got that gig because several other ALREADY PROFESSIONAL musicians from well known bands you already know of tried out and Rob got the job because everyone else...even other PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANS didn't quite cut it and it felt like even the best they found was always like 10% underskilled to pull off what they required. Rob had that extra 10% and it felt natural and comfortable not forced. The band didn't have to slow things down and play an AVERAGE mid tempo rythm during tryouts.
    Congrats on trying out I guess but I think you KNEW that it wasn't going to happen. The reason why?.....Go watch Limp Bizkits Metallica MTV Icon performance of them playing Sanitarium with Mike Smith playing his first live gig with LB upon joining and honestly tell me you think you could do better than he did? Didn't think so.

      That's actually a guy named Peter Katsis. He was either LB's manager or he was the VP of Interscope Records at the time. I can't remember which since it's been so long now.

    this is this kids original music and some big rock band with contracts and a video camera can't change that. and even if by chance limp bizkit owns it now in a legal sense, who cares? people are enjoying it, he didn't steal it - he wrote it. why hate?

    don´t be angry with me but i think wes is irreplaceable. he is my guitar idol and i think he is so unbelievable creative.
    which doesn´t mean your not. but i don´t think you fit into that band. wes does (i´m so glad he´s back). you should build your own band and jam your own style..!! i´ll buy your record. you have a band now?

    I think Limp Bizkit without Wes Borland is pointless. If Limp Bizkit fired everyone but Wes, Fred Durst and DJ Lethal that anyone could fill the shoes of the rest of the band. Honestly though, every original member of the band is what made Limp Bizkit one of the best bands in their genre. I'm not the biggest Limp Bizkit fan, but I do like most everything they put out. They are an artistic and trendy mix of metal, hip hop, and techno. I would venture to say that even though they are a very tight band that there are some punk over tones in the mix. I went to see Limp Bizkit because of Wes Borland. He's up there with John 5 as far as artistic, flashy, skilled guitarists who more or less represent the whole band and are also entertainers on top of all that. The guy that got Wes spot is a great guitarist, but isn't a stand out entertainer or artistic. Wes has hit the stage in some of the oddest costumes, make-up and masks, jumps around and damn near break dances, is very acrobatic and still manages to play as if he were relaxed and recording in the studio. He's not a shredder or a metal God by no means, but he plays Wes Borland brand of guitar and is the only guitar for Limp Bizkit. Even Daron Malakian plays the same roll with SOAD. John 5 made Marilyn Manson a hell of a lot better than say Zim Zum. John 5 has been a good fit with every band he's played for. Because of the auditions put on by Limp Bizkit there was a bunch of very good players that came out of the woodshed and got noticed. I thought that was awesome. From what I have been seeing lately because I don't watch TV at all and I don't do alot of net surfing that Wes is back and better than ever. Awesome. I'm a guitarist and was self taught. I've been playing for 40 years and came up during the revolution that guitar evolved into. In the wake of Hendrix and Page we get Eddie Van Halen and it went all the up and beyond to where the guitar is played by some of these guitarists that are almost super human in their capabilities. I have been through the metal, punk, Seattle and rock scene. Hair metal to death metal, .38 Special to Georgia Satellites, The Exploited to DRI and anyone else I forgot. I have played for ten people up into the lower 10 thousands. I've been schooled and have been handed my own ass out there, I have also been the Wes Borland, John 5 or Daron Malakian of the bands I've been in as well. I have alot of respect for the new generation of guitarists because these kids have to fill some big shoes these days because it's almost all been done.
