Fixing a polaris ranger no start

  • the ground goes bad to the ecm relay and wont energize starter and fuel pump i show a simple fix to run a new ground to the relay and the ranger started right up

    I don't remember how I figured this out in 2012... but one of the wires going into my 2010 XP Ranger ignition switch had a loose fitting "spade like" connector. Caused it to not turn over in the start position. I took a small screwdriver and expanded it a little to fit tight and fixed the problem permanently.

    before I attempt this, was situation a crank no start? or
    no crank no start?
    this ranger has a crank no start grounding issue.
    by first appearance, no fuel pump power no spark ignition but cranks good...going straight for i
    ecm, pcm, ecu. what ever we want, to call it."computer "

    I have a 2014 polaris 800 EFI. Started running really rough. When I stopped it died and wouldn’t start back up. Starter won’t even click. Any ideas if this could be my problem?

    Wouldn't this just be activating the ECM relay all the time, then? (Assuming we're talking about pin B8 on the fuse block - which is the ECU ground input to enable the relay). In that case, it would be a signal wire vs. a constant ground - At least that is what I'm seeing in the wiring diagram...

    I have a 2010 polaris rzr 800s I'm trying to locate the crank position sensor? Not sure where this is located please help.

    My 2018 is having a similar issue but it started off by shutting off while driving it. Is it possible that it would cause that as well?

      well i would think by 2018 they would have fixed that issue of bad grounds. and they no longer make 800 engines i would guess yours has a 900 engine in it just guessing i would suspect something else maybe a faulty fuel pump or the timing position sensor that gave me fits on one machine the wire going to it was rubbed barely making contact fine when cold but then when got warm it would seperate and then quit

      I have checked all relay grounds by reversing a test light, the regulator, and a new solenoid. Is it possible the ecm is bad? Again the only things that don't come on are the fuel pump, head lights, and tail lights.

      @@stevehicks3720 it sure does sound like the ecm ground is bad the way i found it is i had the test light hooked up and touched the ecm ground with the sharp end and i heard the fuel pump click on i suppose i had the key on to when i did it but its possible that ecm fuse is bad that square block fuse

      Check the batteey, it needs to have 12.5 voltage out or it Will on start

    Hello, I have a 2014 900xp ranger and the ECM fuse goes when I push the brake to start it. The switch seems good.

      hmm sounds like a short somewere it does run the fuel pump to i wonder if your fuel pump is shorted out i would unplug the fuel pump and see if it will hold the circut when you push the brake

      We did try removing the fuel pump from circuit still blew it. Pulled brake switch plug and jumpered it turned key and fuse blew. I will check wiring for a rubbed wire.

      @@raymondgingras4700 jump the selinod posts and see if it will turn over it wont start but at least you can see if it will turn over

      well when i was poking around with tester i heard the pump kick in it happens instantly if you hit the right spot

      Hello , I have a 2013 Ranger 570 with a crazy problem like that ... has spark , fuel pressure , compression , spins over good , but as soon as it hits one time , the check engine light comes on , turn the key back off , then engine light goes off , and process starts all over again !! Any insight ?? Thank you !!

    I have a 2016 ranger 900xp when I turn the key on the speedo lights up but does not tell you what gear it’s in, also none of the rocker switches, radio, heater, or fuel pump not coming on or working have checked the ground wires going into the fuse box and both are complete circuits. Any idea what could cause this issue it’s really starting to make my head hurt

      i would guess same problem as mine the ground wire in the harness has went bad polaris has crappy harneses they have such skinny cheap wires they break after machine gets some miles on it you will have to do just like i did get a ground wire to the ecu circit in the fuse box one way to check is take a test light put one end on the ground and take the other end and hit the top of the fuse and see if you can hear the fuel pump click if it does you have a bad ground to that or put clamp end on positive termanal not sure now

      Same problem 2012 900 Polaris ranger all lights on dash turn on but the check engine light is on and won’t start or even turn over, I can hear a clicking when I turn the key

      hmm probably a bad ground somewere i would hook test light to a ground and go in there and start checking relays if you here the fuel pump click then you found a bad ground

      i understand but you got to get a ground to that relay put a snap connector over the ground wire with a new ground wire

      sensor was fine the ground went bad to the ecm in the fuse block ive had it happen to 2 rangers so far
