And remember that the Minolta Rokkor lenses were so good, that they built lenses for Leica with Minolta glass. In fact Minolta engineers helped Leica design their R series camera that was developed from the Minolta XE-7.
Get your hands on a Minolta film SLR. A great way to learn photography with a super rugged camera and a fantastic batch of lenses to choose from at extremely reasonable prices.
A true "poor mans Leica" , but with the same image quality !

I started photography back in high school in the early 1990's with an old Richo KR30SP and my wife started with her dads old Minolta SRT100. She still has hers and mine is long gone. I was lucky enough to pick up an SRT101 at a local pawn shop with the 1.9 prime lens and 135mm telephoto f2.8 lens and am now teaching my girls photography with them. I use Olympus DSLR's for wedding and portrait photography but insist on the girls learning with the 35mm's and these Minoltas are tanks. I even broke out my old Pentax ME Supers and started shooting some with them and forgot how great film could be. Great videos brother. Keep em coming.

Wow. Super inspiring video. I recently found a bunch of Minolta lenses in my grandmother's attic. And, guess what, the SRT 101 was just lying around in one of the boxes in my attic. What a great find. I bought a battery and some film and I'm good to go. Everything seems to be working. I'm not a photographer, but thanks to this video I am really looking forward to making my first shots! Thank you!

I had a SRT 202 about 35 years ago. I loved it and learned a lot with it.
Just got a SRT 101 in like new condition, paid about $40. for the camera and $30. for a Minolta 50 mm lens.
Of course I will never give up my digitals, but I still get a thrill when I shoot film. (2-3 rolls a year.)

Was given one on May 20 2016. Love it, just ran a roll of Tri-x Pan 400 through it and now have to develop. It is the most fun out of my 5 SLRs to use. I was unsure about that focusing circle at first, I'm used to the split circle like my AE-1, FE, XG1, and Autoreflex T3. However I have found, especially with long lenses the SRT's focusing screen is very easy to use. With the Vivitar 70-210 f/4.5 lens I have, on my XG1 the split circle has a tendency to go dark on top or bottom making it hard to focus. The SRT is nice and clear.

Loved your video. I have an MD Rokkor-X 45mm f/2 and an MD Tele Rokkor 135mm f2.8 lens along with an adapter for my Sony Nex 6 camera system. I'm intrigued with film again after my bout with digital and like the fact that it does force you to slow your roll and think, there for teaching you the basics of photography unlike digital can. Now on the hunt for a SRT 101 or SRT 202, to go with my lenses. I subscribed to your channel after viewing this video. It was that good. Thanks Al

It's both cheap AND easy to adapt these old lenses to my e-mount Sony's. I have purchased about a couple dozen film lenses for the price of one decent digital lens and Sony makes it very easy to manually focus as well!

Really nice vid i have an srt 202 that i got from a thrift store for 15 bucks knew nothing about photography when i got it now I've taken 4 rolls with it and honestly the more i shoot the more i love it just like you said it's a good camera to learn and train the eye now im so much in to the whole photography with film (don't like digital at all) that i got an Argus c3 and a Minolta maxxum 5 and a small Pentax IQ and just like someone said .... Digital is for taking pictures film is for capturing moments ha ha. Keep up the good work :)

My lenses comprise of a collection of 14 prime and zoom Minolta-Rokkor lenses but my two favorites are the 58mm f 1.4 and the 85mm f 1.7, absolutely superb glass. You can pick up the 58 mm at around $ 100 and the 85 mm is a bit more pricey. The 35-70 is a nice moderate zoom and the 35 mm gives you that classic 35 mm look.
An even more incredible lens than the 58 mm 1.4 is the 58 mm 1.2 , and while the bokkeh is excellent on my 1.4, the 1.2 is stunning. However it remains a very sought after lens with a high price point, and what's unique to the 58 mm is that what you see is exactly what you get as the human eye in terms of focal length is 58 mm .
Some Minolta-Rokkors are considered the best lenses ever built in their particular focal lengths, I think the 1.2 is one of them. But all lenses were built by Minolta with there own glass with QC better than Leica !
This video is excellent and if you want a great camera with superb optics you're not going to easily beat Minolta.

hey! awesome video, it has helped me a lot (im new at this) i have two questions:
1. if im not using the lightmeter in a couple of days should i turn it off?
2. The niddle moves but its almost all the time in the top so the shutterspeed is always under 1/30, is that a problem?

It depends on the light but this seems unusual. I would have it checked out by a repair man. I just posted a video of shooting this camera. Check it out to see sample photos. But yea I'm not sure why it's always stuck up there.
I have the minolta SRT 200 I love it. what exactly are the differences between the 01 and the 200 ? I inherited it from my uncle I'm trying to get some lenses for it at the moment are you planning on making more vids about this particular camera? I found it very helpful.

I'm just finishing my first term in my BA Photography degree and after a lifetime and 3 years of specializing in digital photography I've decided to completely convert to film. I watched a video where Chuck Jines Photography suggested this camera and I've made the purchase! Thought I'd watch this before it arrived in the post and I can officially say that I've literally never been more excited (sad I know), especially after watching this video. Hey! Thanks for a great video, this was actually the reason why I bought my Minolta! One question though, I realized that my Minolta is a srt101B. Tried google it but couldn't find anything about it. Do you happen to know what the "b" stands for? The only difference seems to be that the 101b is without mirror lock.

Great video. You're right about the heft of the thing it's a tank of a camera. Gear grabbers need watch out. I'd happily smack someone up side the head with one and not think twice about it working just fine afterwards :D

StEVO Type R The camera doesn't have a switch for multiple exposure like some other 35mm SLR's. Glad you found the video useful!
StEVO Type R You can actually do multiple exposures with this camera. All you have to do, is take your first shot - then tighten the film a little with the rewind knob, hold the rewind knob in place so it doesn't move, push down the film-rewind button on the bottom of the camera, then pull the film-wind(still making sure the film doesn't move, by holding the rewind knob in place) and lastly pull the trigger!
It may be a bit difficult to wrap your head around from this written comment, but if you search for "minolta srt 101 double exposure" here on CZcams, there will pop up a few videos of how to do it (:

Do I need to buy an external flash? How does this work in dark lighting?
A flash is always a good idea for indoor photography - just remember that you'll have to set it up manually and the flash will need an x input, and you'll ned the lead too, as the SRT101 only has a cold shoe.
Which camera do you prefer? Minolta SRT101 or Pentax K1000? :) Great video btw!

One question. if I buy Konica Minolta AF 17-35mm F/2.8-4 D lens, can I use it at this camera? If YES, than can I have full control on shutter speed and apeture?

I recently purchased the Minolta srt 101 and after the first use I can’t get my film count to reset. Is there an easy way to fix this issue???

That bitch Debbie you can use a wireless transmitter trigger with a sync cord input. the flash is connected to the hotshoe of the receiver. you can place the trigger on the flash holder on the camera body.
I just bought one for 9,50 euro's with a 50mm 1.7 lens that had a filter on it so it's like new. the body is in good shape but sometimes the mirror does not flip back, I don't knowif it's a bad thing
MISTER AGB is the mirror in the path of the shutter curtain, or is it in the roof the camera body? there is a mirror lock up cicular lever on the right side of the body above the self timer button. if the pointer on this lever is up, then the mirror is not locked. if it is horizontal, then the mirror is in the lock up state. try changing this.
At 22:30 you said to make sure that compartment (whatever it is called) is turning and you will know you have a properly loaded roll of film - well, mine isn't turning when I am firing the shutter. Any ideas what is happening? Thank you!
So when you wind the lever on, does the rewind knob on the left of the camera turn too? If it does, you're good to go. If it doesn't, you probably haven't loaded the film quite right and it's slipping. Pop the back open in a dark room to check, and if so, re-attach the film leader.
Thanks!!! Unfortunately I don't have access to a dark room :( I realize that if I open it up it will destroy the exposed film, but will it ruin the rest that is tucked away in the rest of the roll?
Just go into the bathroom at night with no lights on, that should be pretty dark! Chances are that if the film is slipping, it would have been since you first loaded it, so there are probably no photos on that roll at all. Sorry!

He explains how it works a little after 17:28 - Basically, turn the meter on, adjust aperture and shutter in order to line up the "Lollipop" with the needle.If your meter has failed or you can't get a battery for it, just guess using the Sunny 16 rule. On a bright sunny day set the aperture to f/16 and shutter to your ISO (ISO 400 = 1/400 second). For other conditions you start there and adjust shutter and or aperture to your best guess.

kim seulgi The Minolta MC or MD lenses will be not mount directly to a Sony e-mount camera, but all you need is a simple adapter ring today make it work. Of course you will lose the ability to auto focus, but you will also lose the ability to adjust the aperture from within the camera. It's simply to jump put you e-mount camera into either Manual or Aperture Priority mode are adjusted aperture with the lens itself. You will also need to dive into the camera menu and set the camera to fire without an electronically controlled lens attached. There are plenty of other CZcams videos about this. The adapter needs to day MD - E-mount or MD-NEX. Something like this is inexpensive and works magnificently.

Use an app on your phone - it could be more accurate, or if the readings are the same, keep the ISO on your meter at least one setting above that on your camea (eg meter ISO 400, camera ISO 200) and see if that helps.
with what camera are you filming?
For this one, the main camera was a Canon 600d dslr, and the "close-up" camera was Logitech C920 Webcam.

Fernando Garcia Do you mean that you can't get the leader out to put the film in a tank to develop it yourself, or can't you get the film to wind or rewind in the camera?
Yeah I think I placed the film inside wrong and i closed it and tried rewinding it but nothing happened. And I tried to push the lever thing to take open the back of the camera where the film is and its not letting me. Does this make sense?

What oils the monetary value of this camera
Is there any difference between this and the srt 100x?
paul cerabolo Very similar, the newer 100x adds a hot shoe, and 1/1000th shutter speed.
