I had a car dealer change my battery but I still can’t lock or unluck my car. Sometimes, even when I place the fob in the cup holder the car is having problem in finding the key aswell.
My fob is dead and I won’t be able to get a replacement in few weeks, how can I activate the alarm back when locking the car with the mechanical key?
How do you get the back off the key fob to expose the battery?
What if this happens and you also need to get fuel? How do you open the gas tank if the key fob isn’t working?

The newer Volvo xc40 does not have the nobe that you turn you have the push button start
Does this apply to the sport key with dead battery, assuming I could get into the car?
The battery on the sport key is technically non replaceable, and it does not feature a real key. However, some people on CZcams have successfully changed the battery but at the consequence of loosing waterproofing.

I replaced my battery in both key fobs but the only way to start the car is with the fob on the sensor. The fobs do not lock or unlock the car either - help!!

@@anonyme2777 I am having this same problem and new key fobs did not help and the dealer says they don’t know how to fix it. Were you able to get yours fixed?
This is really helpful. The problem I'm having is my FOB no longer works after a period of a week or two. Once I remove and then re-insert the battery, everything works again. This happened once I let my online volvo services stop. Could the two be related?
I had the same issue and now my car doors won’t open at all and the Volvo dealership says they don’t know how to fix it. 😞
@@mcpheex3 that’s awful. Have they tried to reactivate your online subscription to see if that helps? Since locking and unlocking your is a reasonable expectation for an owner, I hope Volvo steps up and supports you. GL
@@tikishark1 Thank you. First they charged me $700 to replace the 12v battery which did not fix the problem. Now they are telling it will be $5-6k for the next “try” at fixing it. But they have said Volvo in Sweden said they do not know how to fix it. So frustrating. Thank you for responding. ❤
@@tikishark1 Now that you mention that, when I tried to open my car via the app the morning it wouldn’t open, my data had been wiped from the app altogether. I will make that suggestion and see. But that would be such a crazy issue!

Problem is that my key didn't work in the door.......had to replace fob key battery that had died.......had to walk to 2 different places to get that battery so when I was in Target I said okay Im.a get a 4 pack.......😂.....And its still not working in the door, but before the battery died it was functioning just fine.......the buttons work fine
I was told you may cancel some warranty if you try to replace it yourself. Is that true? The nearest dealership is 3 hours away.
Not true. They want you in the dealership so they can upsell you. The battery can easily be replaced yourself. They'll likely try to sell you a new keyfob, and if they can't then a new battery.

@@teeth-man the sport key/ key tag/ buttonless key is probably what they meant by losing warrenty on the key, cause it isn’t possible to change the battery and retaining the waterproof element on the key.
Why didn't you lock it with the key? you'll see😂. Fail.
