Geoff johns defined DC comics for the 00s
My favorite writer being interviewed by my other favorite writer. This is paradise.
two hacks 🤣
@@brucewayne8158hack Snyder stole Geoff Johns comics to make his movies 😂
@@Qthetar and did better 🤣
@@brucewayne8158 the guy who wanted Batman raped in prison did it better? 😂 says no one ever.
@@Qthetar he did? when did that happen in the movies? 🤣
Geoff Johns' Green Lantern is one of the greatest comic runs in my opinion, and the scene in his Flash run where Wally is struggling with patience watching tv with his parents-in-law is one of the most influential scenes for me in all of fiction, and helped me to appreciate superpowers more since I leaned more toward the martial arts characters who were ostensibly human, but that scene helped reinforce the Flash's powers as a metaphor for patience. (Also, reading older Wally comics from Marv Wolfman's New Teen Titans where I think it showed how he'd have to manage his calories so using his powers had a financial burden similar to Spider-man which helped make him appear more realistic than Batman).
Thank you for this interview to start off the week, and thank for your Wally West Flash work, Mark Millar! I've read it multiple times!
I read in Peter David writing for comics he has quick silver waiting in line at the post office to show the frustration of being a speedster. Time moves slow for not-meta folk in those circumstances but eternity for those with super-speed.
@@4-a-e The discipline is impressive! Hope you're having a good celebration today!
His run on Flash was IN-CREDIBLE stuff. If I recall correctly...it's been awhile....that run was sandwiched between two runs by Mark Waid. And that Waid stuff was SO terrible.
@@DM-sy4hg This was a pleasant surprise! Glad to read from another fan! Wally's a character I regularly think about while wearing my red jackets/coat, which I'm wearing right now! Every second is a gift. =) Hope you and yours have a blessed December!
Geoff John is my favorite writer hands down. I wish his run on aquaman and teen titans was longer. Dc and marvel really need both these guys now. Geoff should come back and write blue beetle. I would also love green lantern by mark millar but with a different lantern than Hal. He already has a lot of good stories.
He's my favorite writer too. One of my favorites is the Justice League New 52.
Keep these interviews coming PLEASE. They’re awesome
Those were some really awesome stories about Richard Donner. Thanks for sharing those Geoff!
Love Johns' stuff especially his JSA comics and the Stargirl TV show :)
This is so awesome, Geoff Johns is one of the best writers out there, I love his writing style!
This guy resurrected so many characters. No one has ever been able to turn a turd into gold more than him. DC owes him big time for how he rescued the JSA, the Flash and especially Green Lantern. He even made Aquaman awesome which was impossible.
Geoff Johns is a genius, he achieved what many considered impossible, to make Aquaman a commercial and critical success. He transformed an unjustly ridiculed character into a character that finally was seen in the right manner.
Geoff has always been one of my faves. Re: Stargirl. The cafeteria battle scene is one of the best superhero fight scenes I've seen. Felt like a comic.
The best comic book writer of the 21st century.
So much of Geoff’s stuff I love
His GL run, his New52 JL run, his Aquaman too
Anything ive read from him on Superman has been brilliant too
This came out at the perfect time. I just finished the first Omnibus of Geoff's Green Lantern run the other night.
Me too!!! Can’t wait to read the second one sinestro corps war was a masterpiece
Jeez! So many interesting nuggets of info here. Great interview!
You two and Bendis were the up and coming then biggest writers in the industry when I was a child reading.
The Goats. I love Johns as a writer because he captures the voices of the characters and he just made my favorite Teen Titans run. Titans of tomorrow.
His Teen Titans run is also my favorite TT run. I think it's the best TT run.
Winter of 2007 reading marvel & d.c. sinestro corp war vs world war hulk. Winner - the readers that was all blockbuster movies on the comic book page. Comics for comic book readers.
Big ups Geoff Johns 😎👍
My comic book GOAT, Johns! Great interview.
Such a great interview! I got into DC from his Green Lantern run and Johns will always be one of my favorite writers. Just read his Hawkman, which was great, and I’m enjoying his current JSA and Stargirl books.
Really nice interview/conversation. Truly made my day.
It’s funny, I got into comics at the exact same time Geoff did so not only is he one of my fave writers but I now understand exactly why he loves DC so much. That period of comics was amazing and because of that I’ve maintained my love for the DC characters through the good and bad times 😊👍
The 2 best comic writers of the last 20 years.
Very encouraging interview! ...am coming.
Wow a 90min Geoff Johns interview, thanks!
Geoff is indeed correct remembering when Identity Crisis was released at 46:40. Issue 1 ("Coffin") went on sale June 9th, 2004 and issue 7 ("The Hero's Life") concluded the series on December 15th, 2004.
Geoff is a Garrick fan that's so great, love how he captures Heroism.
I had given up on comics but infinite crisis and civil war brought me back! These two are awesome
Geoff johns ❤
Great stream Mark. Great hearing about Geoff's experiences.
Geoff is my favorite writer. Infinite Crisis got me hooked on comics. But it was so fun watching you 2 geeking out on Donner lol
These chats are always so great, honestly thanks for sharing them Mark
I really like Geoff Johns, great interview. Mark, my man, Superman: Red Son is one of the TOP 5, Superman stories ever, really special and up, up and there. lol I just really like Superman: Red Son mini.
Johns has been kicking ass, he stumbled with Three Jokers, but after that, his been putting out nothing but fire. Check out Geiger and Junk Yard Joe.
Thanks for having him on🔥!
1:22:55 man Geoff I would absolutely kill for you to come back to Marvel so u can do the Hulk and Spider-Man for reals Spider-Man needs someone like you right now
Excellent interview,Mark! Keep up the great work!❤⚡️🎯😎
Again, another great interview. I've always enjoyed Geoff's comic work. His new Justice Society series and his Image books (Geiger and Junkyard Joe) are fantastic!
Great interview. Johns comes over a genuine fanboy. Loving this channel and the format of the vids.
The House of Wax director referenced was Andre DeToth who did uncredited second unit on Superman: The Movie.
My Fantastic Four dream team would be Johns and Gary Frank. Alternate story arcs with Fabok.
amazing.
mark I'm a big fan of your work !! a big hug from Portugal
This channel is awesome! Bring Mark Waid, Frank Miller or Alex Ross please!!!!
This and the Dan Didio interviews have been fascinating. Hugely enjoyable.
I wonder if Paul Levitz would be up for a chat?
Great interview again Mark. Interesting to hear all of Geoff’s story, he really had a great footing to work in comics because he was there for some really fantastic film & tv eras. I’ll have to dig up my copies of Three Jokers and his DC Watchmen Doomsday Clock, before the world ends sometime😂
Yesssssss!!!! Great. Interview!!! Little bit of advice stop saying uh huh. Uh huh. Just let them talk. But. I love the feel of just two old friends talking. Soooooo goood. And I am even more of a Johns fan. !
Yeah, that pirate comics site is great for hard-to-find, out of print stuff. I am reading your old Saviour series, Mark - it is very good. 19-year old Mark Millar was a cool guy!
Ideal! This way Mark doesn’t get a penny for his hard work nor do the artists!
Thanks guys
Your both great, interviews are really interesting and good fun 🤩 thanks 🙏
Great interview, keep them coming
I hope Geoff Johns brings back Jack Knight
Great interview
Loved this interview! My two favorite comic book writers ever!!!! Great show! Thank you!
I would love Stuart Immonen doing Superman with Mark Millar.
I'm a fan of both Johns and Millar, but honestly it's sad comics have become nothing more than a stepping stone to Netflix and fodder for Hollywood. I feel like American comics will never be really cool again. I hope I'm wrong.
Of course you’re wrong. 99 percent of the work never gets adapted. The shows and movies are the only reason comics are still published. They’re finding it so don’t whine.
I think the movies are the "Endgame" so to speak. Comics are dying and the movies are their swan song. It's sad to see, for sure.
great interview man
Great to hear an industry legend validating what I've been saying for a long time is wrong with comics now.... There. Are. No. Stakes.
If a character dies? Fuck it, we'll bring 'em back in a couple months. How do we get around this historical obstacle? Retcon the shit out of it.
The continuity is fucked. And when it gets too fucked they reboot it and fuck it up some more. As if the concept of ageing characters out or killing them and, oh I don't know, creating new ones (!!) wasn't an option.
Good interview. Love Geoffs work. I wish someone would really get into the meat of the whole western comic sales issue. Manga is eating western comics lunch, and like Mark said they'll read and watch the show. However people watch the marvel & DC movies but don't really read the books. Could it be a content issue? or a continuity issue? because like Geoff said indies seem to be doing well, just nothing that's corporate owned. I think someone needs to take a swing at cracking that nut.
That said three jokers sold a million copies. It's a hard but to crack
Ghost Machine
If anyone from Marvel is listening: GIVE ME that Geoff Johns Hulk story 💰💰💰💰💰
I have to admit I cringed when Johns said he was told by editorial to slow down the story. Decompression is just the worst.
1:15:40 i wonder if Mark will try to get Dan Mora for a Millar world book
Marvel & DC are mangled beyond recognition. Please interview indie creators.
I love a lot of Geoff Johns work but the phrase, "The Three Jokers brought people out because it was a good book" is kind of laughable. The art is impeccable, but it and Doomsday clock represent a lot of the worst tendencies in Johns's writing imo
Van Sciver’s BFF
Bore off
They made some epic comics together. Now days at dc it's comics about 2 boys kissing to Sam smith songs.....
Great idea, Mark pls have EVS on. 😎
Lmao stop acting, he was a part of those story boards, and the flashpoint story was a very dark story, stop
the man who ruined live action dc for the next 10 years
I don't see Zack Snyder here.
Zack Snyder > Geoff Johns & Joss Whedon
Nope
Remember how good comics were before they went woke?
Do you actually read comics, or just watch youtube videos about them?
@@jimjammer333I used to read and collect comics. Geoff Johns is my favorite writer. Modern DC is too woke for me.
@@johncook7364 why does representation threaten you?
@@ReaperXC representation is a scam.
@@jimjammer333 Exactly. Everything Johns has written has been inclusive. The entire DCU history and all versions of heroes. More is better.
Both guys have written some incredible stories in comics, but Geoff Johns is a hack that helped destroy the DCEU/SnyderVerse with his goofy ego. I’ll never have respect for him again. That’s it 👍
😂 Tell us you’re a fake geek girl without saying you’re a fake geek girl 😆
@@Acid-Fire Proceeds to leave the dumbest comment possible, little fairy 🤣💀
Is there a way to eternally thank him? Fortunately in a year or so, Snyder will be just a forgotten memory like when you find corn in your stool.
Ok Bendis😂
@@MTVCOPS what are you even talking about? 💀 I start my comment with praising both writers and then just tell a truth about his involvement in DC films? Christ lol
Modern comics are awful
Amazing
