    Up here in Kansas, we have a lot of Fescue and Bluegrass which is not as thick as Augustine or Bermuda or Zoysia. Our problem is turning quickly on wet ground which will cause wheel tear on the grass. When the ground is still wet, I always mow in circles. When the ground is relatively dry, I always cut in stripes and then reverse the stripes the next time I cut. Like the man says, you do each lawn the way its designed or laid out.

      Up here in Maine you won't find any striped lawns.
      For that matter, this past year Maine has become a cash cow for new lawncare companies. They're popping up like weeds. I've lived here all my life and I've seen more riding mowers in the past four months than in the past 20 years.
      It was bound to happen - lawns up here are weeds, 80% by volume. Clover and dandelions and crabgrass everywhere. People up here don't even know what edging is most of the time. There are so many lawns to be mowed and brush to be cleared and weeds to be trimmed that everyone's making money.
      Since the 1980's, everyone up here used to mow their own lawn with a 20" push mower.
      Last summer I was standing outside and I heard what sounded like an airplane taking off. I walked around looking for the source of the sound - it was some guy on a 60" riding mower. What the heck, I thought. He's obviously in the wrong neighborhood!

    I am originally from Indiana. Now I live in Florida. You do not cut a Georgia lawn the same way you cut Bluegrass in Indiana. Midwesterners have no clue how horrible the green stuff is in the south. It's ugly as hell green crap weeds. You can't stripe it. It does not have BLADES to lay down...big difference. I had a huge yard in Indiana that was manicured. In Florida we just hack it low and landscape with great plants. I love the way you politely tell people they don't know what the HAY they talkin' about because this Hoosier knows you can't stripe weeds. Keep on keepin' on bro!! In my area, it's cool season grass which goes dorment in July and August. It's a tough sale to keep the customers on a weekly service because there's just no growth to cut. It does make things tough when so many switch to bi-weekly. I try to push other work like tree pruning, mulch, etc to make up for it.

    Up here in the Midwest(southeast Mi) I have to cut weekly unless there is a drought mid summer then it may be ever 2 weeks for July/Aug. I cut the bluegrass up here at 3.5. I only strip if the lay of the yard makes it time effective. In 13 years of business I have never had a customer say they need there lawn stripped or you didn't stripe it well enough.

  • @CraigsCuts
    @CraigsCuts Před 4 lety +1

    Different grass calls for different treatment but that grass looked long and green enough to lay down some pearls, especially since you double cut it. We keep our lawns around 3.25” so we are definitely laying stripes in Mi...plus striping it makes the job look more professional IMO and looks like a design rather than just simply being uniform. Different strokes for different folks! Great video!

    • @Bladesofgrasslawncare
      @Bladesofgrasslawncare  Před 4 lety +3

      I clearly understand your point, but the reality is that even if we try and tripe it only lasts 10 to 20 minutes due to the growth characteristics of the turf. It tends to pop back up really fast making our efforts useless. Thanks for your comment 👍

    Do you mow in squares and circles every time you service the lawn? Or do you change the route?

    Stripe or not it makes more sense to me to go back and fourth. If it makes a stripe so be it but it gets dispersed better and more even the first time over then to cut a giant square raise the deck then disperse it around. If it’s too tall or too thick do one whole pass this way.... turn around and do half a pass that way.... one and done.

    Several things: shrubs need to be cut back, the beds could use a courtesy blow of clippings, huge weed on the side of the house, and definitely could stripe grass. Client would appreciate the extra step I’m sure.

    I would've mowed first, before edging. Because the mower could smash the edge back down to the sidewalk, causing the look of a missed edge spot. Which it did smash Some of your edges, closet to the Drive way. Other than that great work i like your channel

    What would you recommend for a traditional riding lawn mower?

    • @Bladesofgrasslawncare

      I haven't look at one in years and I would be guessing, so my advice is a good warranty and a close repair location, because all equipment breaks eventually and you need your repairs done fast, hope this helps.

    Hey bro, one question.
    Do you need to be certified to spray the shrubs? Thanks man and nice video 👍🏻

    Nice work. How much do you charge to trim those shrubs ? What is your reason for putting growth regulator on your shrubs after trimming? Love your setup in your trailer. We have Tall Fescue turf in my area we strip without trying.

    • @Bladesofgrasslawncare
      @Bladesofgrasslawncare  Před 6 lety +1

      We do yearly all-inclusive grounds maintenance so the customers don't care about the frequency of trimming all they care is that it looks good all the time. By spraying our shrubs I minimize the labor frequency of trimming.

      Blades of Grass Lawn Care, LLC , what did you charge for a yearly maintenance for just that property you sprayed with the growth regulator? Is the mowing prices included as well?

  • @roadstar499

    i think striping yards is really a waste of effort... i retired for this 22 years ago and did it for 20 plus years and not one person asked me to stripe their lawn... i cut and bagged my yards for mannny years... final couple of years i just mowed/mulched... no stripes... but i guess if i started today a couple of people would ask for it... and if it took more time i would charge more... but again i never once gave it a thought...

    I will stripe for a while and then do circles. Its like clearing my canvas for a new painting

  • @threelakeslandscaping3210

    The mower lays the grass every time you drive over it. It's impossible to not put lines in it even if you circle it. And every grass type can be stripped. Even St Augustine grass. If you mow a circle half the lawn would be dark the other half light. You can also change the strips every week.

  • @hemilove
    @hemilove Před 6 lety +1

    I strip and I'm from Texas I strip on burmuda and St Augustine and true every two weeks the way to go

    Watching your guy grab that cable for the trailer gate made me cringe. I know it’s easier because you don’t have to bend over but if that cable is frayed even a little bit you can come up with a pretty nasty sliver.

    • @Bladesofgrasslawncare
      @Bladesofgrasslawncare  Před 5 lety +1

      We realized that and are trying to stop doing it, but I must say that we are accustomed to it and it's hard, lol!

    • @thomaspaquette9991
      @thomaspaquette9991 Před 5 lety +1

      Maybe wrap some electrical tape or shrink tubing around it. I have no idea if it will hold up but it may just serve as a visual reminder not to grab it.
      Keep up the good work!

    Putting the clippings back on the lawn eliminates the need for fertilizing. All the nutrients go back into the soil. Just makes sense to me.
