Ahh side two so wonderfully mellow, perfect listening for lying in a field on a lazy summers day and just drifting away. Justin's beautiful vocals and acoustic guitar and sitar blending with Ray's flutes and Mike's keyboards take you on a journey to another place and time where nothing matters but the music.. sublime!!

So true...as I mentioned in the first take on this great album, I would come home from high school in the late 70s and "veg-out" and listen to albums like these for a while before I had to do my homework. Great memories and fantastic music!

Ok, I followed the trail to see the second installment. No worries about the pops and clicks...it really adds to the charm!

Probably the best album to manifest the dreams, hopes and sounds of the 60’s…

So many ways of expressing life . Words and music can take you on journeys to our past, present, and future, "if you want to"...I respect others' comments and will continue to just let the music envelope me in its embrace...still a fan of yours

For the times these are really great sounding albums (even if they were drenched in reverb.) As a bass player I especially love how big John Lodge's bass is in the mix. Note how producer Tony Clarke and engineer Derek Varnals were given credits on these records. IMO Decca and the Moodies were trying to ride the Beatles coattails where people were learning about George Martin and Geoff Emerick. This is about the time people start noticing the technical contributions to pop albums. Jim, re: the sitar used here that's Justin Hayward playing it. They made a big deal about how the Moodie's played *everything* on their albums -- sitar, cello, tabla, whatever. They sort of paved the way for Gentle Giant in that regard.

Yes, it said in the sleeve notes on side one that every note and beat was performed by the band.

Wasn't reverb at the time a speaker in a room at one end and a microphone at the other?

@@matthewpublikum3114 That was one way of producing it, but by the mid-late 60's smaller units were also available for studio use. Not sure which the MB made use of.

Musically, Visions of Paradise is so interesting. The flute part is the melody and the vocals are the harmony. I don't recall having heard that anywhere else.

Continuing on with my personal breakdown of the concept of the album. These three tracks are a good grouping, as they represent to my the Seeker's attempt at integrating what they are experiencing on their journey within with their outer mundane life.
    Voices In The Sky:
Our Spiritual Seeker wonders where others, including animals and plants, are in their own spiritual journey and connection to The All.
    The Best Way To Travel:
Here we experience the inner journey nearly taking over the Seeker's perception of bliss and possibly even pleasure. They can imagine anything, and by applying meditation techniques to it, mentally experience nearly anything. Such thinking can also be a trap, though and may distract the acolyte from spiritual progression.
    Visions of Paradise:
Is there anything better than finding one's Soul Mate? The idea fits in with this journey, but for me it's a little "clumsy." I think another Justin Hayward love song was desired after Nights In White Satin, and Hayward and Thomas came up with this stunner.

Can i just say that Justin Hayward obviously isn’t much of an ornithologist…Nightingales don’t ‘hover on high’! They are very shy birds that skulk in the undergrowth 🤔🙄

Ah shoot. I was just anticipating the curtain rising on the scene. I shouldn't be gluttonous. My goodness, this is a great album, and we haven't even gotten to Actor or Om. Gustav Jimi, betty gustav!

Their feet in 2 camps? You should jump ahead with them when they had their feet firmly planted in the forward camp: ('69-'71)"To Our Children's Children's Children" "A Question of Balance" then "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour". That latter one is a masterpiece of audio engineering.
