    I *just* realized...
Imagine how much more soul crushing yet investing it'd be if when Woody reunites with Bo...It wasn't _the_ Bo.
It could come off as a retread of Toy Story 1's story, but the difference is Bo would know she's a toy, she just doesn't know who Woody is except maybe being like "Oh hey, you're a Woody doll from the 50s! Thought you guys were discontinued for decades."

But in 4, they treat it like being porcelain is a minor inconvenience. Heck, they make it seem like Bo is a lot sturdier than she is. Disregarding roles and personalities, Bo always came off as frail to me. I didn't even know she was made of porcelain until like a year or two ago.
Also in all fairness, I don't think you're tired of the strong independent woman trope, I think you're (and many others) are sick of strong independent woman being absolute perfection machines. -Coughs, Captain Marvel, coughs-
Like, I'm watching every single James Bond movie in order. James Bond is like the biggest movie character in history, or one of the biggest, yet they always make it clear in the movies I've seen that he's not perfect, he's got his issues. Like his opponents actually get hits off of him and he reacts instead of tanking them and just being like "lmao that tickled". I'm bringing this up because Bond is typically looked at as the ideal male that men want to be. Yet why do women role models have to be seen as impervious?

    • @hunterolaughlin
      @hunterolaughlin Před 2 lety +9

To be fair, Ralph is a character that always acts on his emotions. Example being when he wrecked the cake during his argument with Gene over him being the bad guy. So I’m probably in the minority that doesn’t take issue with Ralph’s characterization in Ralph Breaks the Internet. I see him getting upset over Vanellope hanging out with Shank from Slaughter Race as in character with Ralph in the first film. Although, I know you’re probably going to disagree with me, which I expect. So I’m not going to upset with your reply.

    • @artmoryoo
      @artmoryoo Před 2 lety +72

@@hunterolaughlin I can totally see your point since Ralph was pretty emotional in the first movie, but even then he had reasoning. He's never had any real friends and when he finally gets invited to a party, out of persistence and pity, he tries to be nice to everyone and he only smashes the cake after being frustrated with how badly he's being treated. Even so, he's pretty emotionally stable for someone in his situation throughout the movie.
He's also pretty clever and we can see that his actions are justified by a thought process that makes sense. The only reason he comes off as a bumbling giant is because he's not educated on navigating games outside of his world and the games aren't easy to physically navigate with his size (e.g. the soldier suit was hard for him to fit in/see and when making the cars the machinery was foreign to him)
However in the second movie, his character is flanderized and he seems like a big emotional baby who is dependent on Vanellope, even his voice sounds different and like a dumb big guy stereotype. They could've definitely had Ralph struggle with the fact that Vanellope, his closest friend, is leaving/spending more time with Shank without doing a disservice to his character. And tbh, there's a lor more about the movie I could ramble on about but I've already made this comment too long lol

A thing that doesn't actually have to be right. It's a suspicious set of clues that kind of make a coherent picture, it's a fan positing a thought for others to think about. Others who enjoy the movies related to the theory.

One thing I didn't get when I watched the film. I may be dumb, but...wouldn't taking Woody's voice box be pointless? Not only could it be incompatible, but doesn't each voice box have preset sayings? So instead of Gabby Gabby's pre-determined phrases, she would have Woody's voice and sayings instead? So instead of something "cute," the doll would have a masculine voice saying "There's a snake in my boot!"
This whole movie is a godawful mess and that thing seriously annoys me as well.

Thank god someone else finally pointed out that Bo's arm thing makes 0 sense. I saw that the first time and nearly leapt off the couch in anger. The first like half of Toy Story 2 is dedicated to how Woody's arm doesn't work even with a slight seem rip and yet the movie wants me to believe that a bit of tape would not only keep her arm on but also fully fix it? Hell it even shows that Wheezy can barley speak with a busted squeaker which... calls into question as to why Gabby Gabby can even speak but we'll ignore that for now.
I've never understood this whole 'lost toy' angle like it was some mystical thing that toys would love to do. I was never allowed to touch random toys I found in the park, there's a reason why "Don't touch that, you have no idea where that's been." is such a trope in children's media because it something we've all heard. Did your parents really let you play with lost toys on the playground? Also, how many unbroken toys did you see on the playground? Plus the movie likes to pick and choose when Bo is a porcelain figure, she's never been rough housed with before even when Andy played with her, why would she like this life of nearly breaking and shattering every eight seconds by potentially being dropped onto hard surfaces on the ground.
Also god Bo looks so fucking different in this movie it drives me batty.

I already thought this movie trying to glorify the life of being a lost toy and making it seem wonderful when it really isn't but you bring up a good point of "not touching something when you don't know where it's been" as well as the fact that SO many toys would've been broken or busted if they chose this life-style (Bo should've been a hundred porcelain pieces by now, the smaller toys like Combat Carl or the smaller one, I forgot her name, being stepped on).

Another thing about buzz in the first movie showing his intelligence and character is that when he 'lands' he's alert and not trusting at first until he's is introduced, he then makes friends and helps the toys stile personal issues they have, like helping Rex to roar. He knows making friends could help aid his own needs, but he also enjoys his time with them too. He puts his own needs aside for others. He leads the toss in the second movie to keep going to find woody in the second film because he's that close of a friend to Woody, and even knocked sense into him when woody wouldn't join them to go home. He let woody stay, because it seemed he was too stubborn, but he did everything in his power to get him home and blindly trusted Woody's plans to save Jessie without asking for context because he trusts woody that much.
If Buzz of the first 3 movies was in this one, when it came to woody looking after Fork face, Buzz wouldn't take no for an answer and he would take action and lecture woody about how much its putting a toll on him, he would make a spreadsheet or plan on how they'd look out for fork face to make it simpler on the two and any other toy that would help out, Jessie would help too for sure, because we know Buzz is also very organised since in ts2 he has a full routine on how to keep track of all the toys during a yard sale. He ran Andy's room with Woody, so he knows all the procedures and probably added some as he would remember his academy training even though he knows he's a toy, the training still is useful in that regard
Buzz wouldn't force woody as he's not that kind of guy, but he would help woody see the big picture and understand that he does need help and would kind of give woody that nudge he needs
Buzz is a leader who has potential answers or ideas for almost anything

Ya know, part of the reason why Kingdom Hearts III took so long to get made was because the people at Pixar were fans of the franchise and wanted to make sure that the Toy Story and Monsters Inc characters were well represented, thus leading to a lot of back-and-forth which was exasperated by both the language barrier and time difference between California and Japan. And while KHIII was pretty divisive, most people can agree that the Toy Box and Monsteropolis worlds were the best parts of the game, as not only were the characters, ya know, in-character, but their subplots were written in a way that they could be considered canon to their respective film franchises.
Yes, the video game where "Let it Go" has a Maya watermark on it treated Toy Story better than an actual Toy Story movie.

Here's how I would change Toy Story 4:
    - I would keep the intro. Nonetheless, I would also remove the Operation Pull Toy sequence with the window. I would have Buzz and Jessie work together to open the window. Rex or one of the other toys can be shown retrieving the barrel of monkeys and helping Bo pull Woody up.
    - Woody would consider joining Bo in the intro, but he would see his boot instead of Andy. Andy would enter the scene only after the car leaves.
    - Bonnie's parents are more caring and buy her a box of supplies meant to create a toy, but she loses the base form. Thus, Woody gives her a spork, resulting in the creation of Forky.
    - Woody has traumatic visions of the incinerator when he sees Forky attempt to throw himself into the trash. Woody, Jessie, and Buzz would probably experience trauma from the first three movies in their own way. Overcoming your trauma doesn't always mean that it simply disappears.
    - Buzz accidentally presses his chest button due to a bump on the road, allowing Forky to escape and throw himself out the window.
    - Woody promises to meet his friends at the carnival at a set time. Woody, Slinky, and Jessie jump out the window together, but Buzz is stopped when Bonnie momentarily wakes up.
    - Woody repetitively attempts to convince Forky that he matters, but he keeps failing due to Forky's many questions. Woody tells him the story of his life as well.
    - Gabby Gabby is much more menacing. There is a scene where she tortures Wheezy for his squeaker only to realize that it is not a voicebox. He is saved by a hooded figure.
    - Bo Peep meets Woody in the antique store instead of in the park. Harmony takes them both to the park.
    - Bo gradually becomes more and more embittered over the course of the film due to Gabby Gabby's taunts and the hardships throughout the course of the film.
    - I would remove Ducky and Bunny completely.
    - The toys search for Woody and the others to the best of their ability. They have much more significant roles in this film. Bonnie's parents decide to stay a little longer to cheer Bonnie up.
    - Buzz would not get strapped and become the grand prize. Instead, he would fly over the carnival and accidentally crash in an attempt to avoid birds and the rides. then, he would be captured by Gabby Gabby upon seeing the antique store and Forky.
    - Duke Caboom and Jessie create a distraction as Woody and Slinky free Buzz. He is torn to pieces by Duke. Desperate to save her sheep, Bo attempts to save them from the cat. However, Woody risks his life to save Bo, causing Forky to wonder about the meaning of being a toy.
    - Gabby Gabby reveals that Harmony has always wanted a Gabby Gabby doll. Thus, it is revealed that Gabby Gabby believes that it is her purpose to be there for Harmony no matter what. This causes Forky to question his suicidal tendencies entirely and eventually accept his calling as a toy.
    - The sheep find the other toys and take them to reunite with Woody. They avoid being seen and strapped.
    - Bonnie and her parents begin searching for the toys.
    - Gabby Gabby threatens Forky directly, forcing Woody to surrender. Harmony has the voicebox installed into her. However, Harmony rejects her when Woody's voice plays.
    - Gabby Gabby is absolutely crushed by Harmony's rejection, but Jessie encourages her to join them upon remembering her time isolated from the world.
    - Rex, Trixie, and a few other toys stay behind in an attempt to pop the tires to buy time, but it has little to no success.
    - Bo attempts to defeat Gabby Gabby to avenge her friends, but Woody stops her.
    - The toys regroup at the carousel, but several street cats catch them. In a recreation of the chase scene at the end of the first Toy Story, they finally make it back to the trailer. Duke Caboom is alive and creates another distraction for the group, trapping the cats. Buzz flies Forky to the trailer as Woody and Jessie watch in pride.
    - Bo offers Woody to join her, but Woody refuses, remembering his promise to Andy and Buzz. However, a few of the toys, including Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, join her and Duke. Woody and Bo ride away from one another. Bo reflects on the days with Andy and Molly as Woody and Buzz say, "To infinity and beyond, old timer..." Meanwhile, Bo says, "So long, move buddy..."
    - Gabby Gabby ventures on her own, determined to find her own destiny.
    - In a post-credits scene, Gabby Gabby is donated to Sunnyside at the end, where she meets the other toys there.
    - In another post-credits scene, Duke and Bo run into Utility Belt Buzz, a few new toys, and a modified Zurg, who tells them that they have a situation.
    - In one last post-credits scene, a man finds Woody's voicebox, who laughs nervously yet sadistically upon listening to it. The man is revealed to be Sid Phillips.
Please let me know how this sounds! I will happily listen to any criticisms! Let me know if you want to hear my ideas for Toy Story 5 and 6!

The scene where Woody is sitting by himself in the middle of the night while watching over Forky and Buzz joins him for a chat had SO MUCH potential, omg. At first I was like "Yes! Finally!! Proper interaction with these two! I bet they'll discuss something deep and meaningful, have a genuine heart-to-heart that's going to carry the rest of the film's emotional tone!"... But instead, it went along the lines of "Uuh, so inner voice = pre-recorded system? InTeREstiNG." That made me mad, not gonna lie. WHY make Buzz such a bumbling dunce for literally NO reason whatsoever?? It really did feel like a full on character assassination, which is all the more puzzling and infuriating because Buzz is a treasure and everybody loves him.

Started watching these now, and realized even Kingdom Hearts 3 handled Buzz a lot better. I don't even like how he's portrayed in that game. He comes across an A hole to sora & friends, but he seemed more competent than how he's portrayed in this movie. At least Buzz made up for it for being more cautious, and suggest waiting to see if Andy or their missing friends come back. It was a pointless idea from our perspective, but not from theirs being toys. So even with that issue, Buzz still stood as the second in command in leadership, like he's always been with Woody.
From what it sounds like, seem like Buzz forgot all that in his film. Which is strange cause he was always the "born to lead" type. The driving force. The one that pulls everything together when things goes wrong. So a scene that everyone comedically tells him what to do. Sure he would probably be overwhelmed, but you would still expect him to come up with something clever than pushing a button.... then say he has to go lol.

And how we want to make them full love interests as the main plot of this movie? And how she's a very honest, wise, kind person? She's going to say she had no feelings for him, there was nothing there."
At least let her dote a little on the past if you want to set up that previous cute love interests had that relationship if you want your main plot to be about them getting together! There's no will they won't they, friends/best friends to lovers, newfound partners in adventure, or any of those other tropes here to justify a denial or flustered answer, especially given how honest Bo is and how brutally honest she is about her thoughts in this movie. Let her give a teensy gossip. I'm surprised that if she told Officer about "the cowboy" she hadn't already talked about their thing, it's sad it has to be brought up now and she denies it. Unfair to Woody, real Bo, and most importantly the real life audience.

To give this movie the tiniest bit of slack, Lamp Life was released after Toy Story 4. When viewing the established timeline of Bo in this movie solely, it actually does make sense. She says she's been out free for 7 years and later on, she says she was in the antique store for a couple of ears (which can be inferred to as 2 years, since we know it has been 9 years since the flashback). Now of course, the fact that Bo has managed to stay free but still very close to the antique store for 7 years without being taken away by a kid or broken altogether (considering the material she is made out of) is absolutely stupid but the actual timeline of events in this movie only is plausible. She was taken to the antique store, stayed for 2 years before leaving and then she lived a free life for 7 years (9 years in total).
The issue is that when Lamp Life was later released, it completely contradicts the established backstory Bo had in TS4. There is absolutely 0 way you can match up the timeline in Lamp Life to the timeline in TS4. Lamp Life's timeline could technically work if Bo was only free for a few days or so but that would then contradict TS4, where it's stated that she was free for 7 years. The whole security system set up in Lamp Life also creates problems, especially if we're supposed to believe that Bo left the antique store (and subsequently broke the security system) 7 years ago. Why was that never fixed? Not to mention other inconsistencies which are created, such as the slot machine Toys.
So Lamp Life retroactively made Toy Story 4 even worse, which is certainly an accomplishment, as Toy Story 4 was already a absolute trainwreck without Bo's inconsistent/contradictory backstory with Lamp Life.
Edit: I’ve found out that Lamp Life was actually comprised of deleted scenes from Toy Story 4. So they actually originally intended to put that backstory in the movie, cut it out (hopefully because they realised that it completely contradicts dialogue Bo gives in the movie and makes the plot make even less sense) and then put that backstory in a short movie. That admittedly does change my perspective on the situation a bit (for the worse).

There are also 2 things I want to say about the tire scene:
      1. when Jessie jumps out the window, Rex yells "Jessie" and his mouth movements don't even match up to what he was saying. That's right. This movie which cost $200 million to make has a lip syncing issue, and Rex is the main focus of the shot. This isn't a fatal flaw or anything, IDK if there are any other lip syncing issues in the movie and IDK if there were any in the previous Toy Story movies but the fact that this animation error made it into a $200 million Pixar movie (which was delayed multiple times) is kind of shocking.
      2. If we just accept the fact that Jessie can effortlessly pop a car tire with a nail (as ridiculous as it is), why doesn't Jessie pop all 4 of the tires? What's stopping her from popping the rest of the tires? She seems perfectly capable of doing so and the humans in this movie are absolutely braindead at noticing the toys so she absolutely would have gotten away with it without detection. Considering that we later see how ridiculously long it takes the dad to fix one tire (which was incredibly lucky for the toys), just imagine how long it would have taken him to fix 4. Even if we was able to fix all the other tires very quickly after the first one, that still would have bought the toys a little bit more time.

Which would imply that... while these events did happen, not all of them were exactly accurate. And that stuff like her experience at the Antique Shop; actually happened differently compared to how Bo interprets it for Woody.

Bo Peep being a lost toy and only mildly broken really pulled me out of the entire world of Toy Story 4 (I was already checked out of the story with how out of character everyone was but I had suspended my disbelief for the spork) Logistically, a porcelain doll that was passed around multiple households (especially with rowdy children as we see in the short) does not live very long, and you can shorten that lifespan a whole lot more when you add the general elements of the outdoors, because porcelain dolls are extremely fragile. My grandmother gave me a porcelain doll as a present to show that she saw me as old and mature enough to treat such a fragile toy with care and not break it. You can't even store these things near a window, especially if you're a collector because the sun will damage it. It's a miracle she didn't break when Andy was playing with her tbh

True, some can have mixed feelings on their recent films, but I don’t think is a side effect of John Lasseter being gone. Sometimes it’ll take a while to get used to the new style and new directions of the latest Pixar films that are completely different from the looks of the previous films. What happened is that when I pulled it the plush hand just slipped off the helmet since it's, you know, a plush...
What I'm trying to say is that even assuming the helmet is incredibly sturdy, Daffy's foot would've just slipped off with no problem.
Wich leads to my next point: 56:40
How is Daffy knocking Buzz's head? Or even hurting him, AT ALL? HE'S A PLUSH!!!
He is small, soft and fuzzy, it is much less than the equivalent of knocking yourself with a pillow (presumably to vent out your frustrations after watching this garbage).
    57:57
    LITERALLY HOW?!?!?!
    Let's do some math here:
The average small plush can weigh up to 2 onces.
A Buzz Lightyear Talking Action Figure™ weighs about 2 pounds.
This means that Daffy is somehow able to pull something that weighs 15-40 TIMES HIS WEIGHT, UPWARDS?!?!
    NO MAN!!!!!
    THAT'S JUST FUCKING IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!
IT'S LIKE PULLING AN ELEPHANT UPWARDS!!! WITH YOUR BARE HANDS!!!!!

Josh never had a toy in his life
And now he is using an opportunity to spread misery on other people to pay back all of the problems he had in his life
      Or
He is a Rebecca Sugar level idiot

This is why I don't like sequels, prequels, reboots, or all the other money grabs. Make a good movie that tells a compelling story, then let it go.

If done right sequels and prequels are good but I believe it is also good to know when to stop
