this works absolutely incrediblely! easy to install and it just works. That’s the best part if I had any more doors, I’d get a whole bunch more of these.

Couldn't agree with you more. I use it on a daily basis and it works like a champ. I still got to make an enclosure for it when I have time. I'm thinking of picking up another unit so I can play with it on my automatic driveway gate :).

I am happy there is a HomeKit version for RATGDO. But, I really hope Matter gains support for garage doors soon, and RATGDO is upgraded to support Matter connections.

Yeah, the project seems like it's constantly upgraded. Been using the RATGDO for 2 months now and it's working perfectly. I'm in the process of getting some kind of case for it to protect it from the elements in the garage.

Thank you. Very helpful. You mentioned a case for the ratgdo. Can you post what you end up finding or using? Thanks.

Sure! I'm looking for some online solutions for now (amazon.com). If I find anything that is useful, will definitely post it on the channel :).

You didn’t have to double up the red and black wires. Take the originals from the door opener and insert them into the ratgdo pass through

Ah, good to know! I'll try that when I find a case for it! Thanks for the tip!

How hard is it to setup a home assistant? I just have Alexa right now. Is it overkill to get a home assistant for just this? For soldering wires, expose a little more and if you wrap a little solder around the wire near the insulation, just tin the tip with a little solder and touch it to the wire and the solder will flow towards the tip. Use flux to help it flow.
Edit: Just realized looking at their site it only supports the two garage door openers so won't work with mine. Nice video though. I recommend a soup-to-nuts one for those with no experience with the home automation hardware outside of Alexa and Google Home.

Thanks for the tip! You were probably cringing on my solder skills haha. I definitely need more practice :). Home Assistant is a great ecosystem for home automation. I use to only use Alexa as well, but having it go over the internet to run my smart devices always bothered me. After researching and watching a ton of videos, I figured it out. It definitely requires some tender love and care to get everything working, but when you do, it's totally worth it. The latency is amazing when you run everything locally within your network.
Regarding the RATGDO, if you have more than one garage opener, I believe you can run multiple RATGDO boards, but I haven't verified that. I currently only have one, but I was thinking about getting another one to control my automatic gate, but I am still researching if that will work on a gate.

@@TonTimeTech It works. You can also do a couple different types of splice if it's hard to fit both wires in the whole or get the T-splice connectors. I ended up ordering a Tailwinds since it seems to be a standalone product that can also integrate with Alexa and also no subscription :)

Thanks for the video, how is this better than using the native myQ app? Genuinely curious

    • @TonTimeTech

The biggest plus (in my opinion) is every thing runs locally. Your data is private and controlled by you. My Q app sends data through the internet then back to your garage opener. The RATGDO also unlocks a lot more features that you don't see in the native myQ app. Watch the video and you'll see the missing features. :)

MyQ no longer allows Apple HomeKit or Home Automation integration. We used to be able to tell Siri to close or open garage door. Not anymore. This fixes that.

@@qdevvv You are absolutely right. I use my garage door opener all the time. When I heard that they were going to close off their API, found this gold nugget on the HA community and never looked back. I love how it exposes all the other options of the garage opener that the MyQ app doesn't show. :).

Camera? You mean for shooting the video? :)
