- Adger Cowans is best known for his photography, but for decades, alongside making his photos, he painted.
I was asked to chat with Adger about his art and what it was like to make art throughout the last few decades. I hope you enjoy.

What a great Artist!!!
I really enjoyed talking to him!
Again thank you for the introduction. Don't view the man, view the art, and the art was intriguing, insightful and thoughtful. Good job Christopher.
Always appreciate your thoughtful comments James. Thanks again for the support.
i so appreciate this interview and the things this guy said spoke to my spirit and what timing. "not try to get a gallery not try to sell my work no" "you don't become an artist to become famous you don't become and artist to be known no its because it's what you do it's what your spirit demands" and amen. I have come to realize that I enjoy art and what I do it's such a wonderful energy for me and if others see it and are moved by it ok I'll go from there. thanks again for this man.
So glad you liked it. He was such a joy to speak to.
What a wonderful outlook on art and time. Thanks.
Thank you so much for watching!
Thanks for showing. AWESOME!
I really appreciate the comment! Thanks for watching.
Never heard of him, but I'm glad I know of him now!! His paintings are amazing! Thanks!!
So glad you liked it! Adger was such a joy to talk to.
..wow! What a great artist! And yes and very coool!
It was such a fun interview!
Such a good episode, love the music and the editing
I really appreciate that. Thank you!
Cool Artist. What he said about "Hang it in your house for a month." That maybe the best test of whether you like a work or not. Live with it. Take it down and put it in the closet. Try not even thinking about it. Later, a week, a month.. do you miss it? Untitled 1977 is just an amazing painting. Kind of Richard Diebenkorn after ten years of listening to jazz.
I totally agree with this. As a guy that sometimes sells art I often let people live with a piece for a few days before they commit. Works almost every time.
I usually hang paintings in my living room as they dry then give them away..
The other day I shipped off two and it was the first time I ever missed one .
@@seanfaherty you’ve got to put it out into the world! Proud of you!

@@christopherwestpresents No bro thank u for documenting this, didnt knew him till now (and that still thanks to u xD)...his 90's work blew me away xD he was rendering by hand computer spaces 30 fing years ago 👁️👄👁️
We need to clean this mans office out.
My friend called it distracting. I said, when you’re 80 it’s charming!
Thank you for these interviews. Your love for art really shows through! On a side note, it might make your videos look a bit sharper if you had a little teleprompter setup (czcams.com/video/YeRu4xYH_W0/video.htmlsi=i81XKDArVyc9WUus&t=108). I don't make videos myself, so take this with a grain of salt. Love your work!
Thanks! And I keep thinking about getting a teleprompter- probably a good idea.
Next video will put you over 100k channel views.
🤞🤞🤞 I love how you keep track of my stats. Just make sure to let me know when I make a million bucks!
At about 2:10 he mentions artists he likes but the closed captions texts don't list all the names as Adger pronounced. Does anyone know who the first 3 artists are that he mentions? Thanks
Al Loving, Ed Clark, Peter Bradley.

"The Idea Of Dealing With Your People You Are A Conduit To Your People You Represent Your People (I Aint Representing)* Race Fk All That Bull Shyt Im A Human Being Im Black Yes But I Dont Paint Because Im Black I Paint Because Im An Artist Period"
*People Help Me I Cant Quite Understand What He Says From 6:36 To 6:37 Before The Word Race
Many Black Artists Want To Be Seen As Artists First Which Is The Same Privilege Given To White Artist Who Are Never Never Never Labled As White Artists Why Is This Concept So Hard To Grasp
I think you got it all in your first paragraph.
Some people like putting paint on flat surfaces. When they let others draw borders they are merely colorists. When they just do whatever they are "artists".
This man is a great person but his art is the kitsch of abstract impressionism
Fair enough - but I think when you look at his contemporaries and context, he’s a real stand out. But of course, such is the beauty of art. I really appreciate the comment.
Where is his Art? How totally disappointing. ARTIST SEE, not TALK...
He shows his photography with Bruce Silverstein Gallery, but hasn’t really shown his paintings for years.
