  • If you want to dig to China, you’d actually need to start your journey in Chile or Argentina - not the US. And you’d need a super-powered drill to get through impenetrable iron, molten alloy, and rock found in Earth’s three primary layers: the crust, mantle, and core. Good luck!

3:20 mistake - the gravitational force does not pull away from the centre.
At any point inside the earth, the gravitational force of the mass of earth less deep then you cancels out to zero.
This means that the gravitational force you experience is from the mass of earth deeper than you, is always towards the centre, and is proportional to the distance from the centre, meaning that right at the centre, you can float in zero G.
All of this is a simplification and approximation and assumes an earth of uniform density and smooth surface.

Supposing the outer mantle's rock is highly pressurized and no one takes the precaution of isolating the tunnel with some kind of heatproof supermaterial, digging through the whole planet would create two small volcanoes, the main reason being the mantle's molten rock filling back the cavity left by the drilling machine.

Seriously question: as fun as that would be wouldn't there be earthquakes and volcano eruptions because you dug through the core. The longest drill hole in the world had to stop because they thought they were creating earthquakes. I also have a theory that you would be stuck at the core because your at the center. They say if you went to Jupiter with a supersuit you would be stuck on the core because there would be gravity pulling in from all directions. Similar to a black hole.
