    Just finding your videos, timely as have my appointment to meet up with plumbing supply company next week, given restrictions these days, and now can go in with better information. One question, in a prior bathroom remodel, ended up with the higher toilet seat, remodeler used typically recommended for mature folks. Had great fun moving to new/old house with standard height in 2018. Now upgrading a 1/2 bath and wondering if higher option would be recommended, pros/cons. I did see the issue with elongated bowls and realize I should avoid that in upcoming replacement given the small size of the 1/2 bath and a door issue. I'll be continuing to search through your videos as also updating a kitchen...great info.

      Most of the Toto toilets do have the Cefiontech Glaze, but not all so double check the description before you buy. (Side note the old word for it used to be Sanagloss - its the same thing). I haven’t done a 2020 review and I probably won’t just because there aren’t any major new model releases this year. But you never know. If you find a model do you want me to review let me know.

    Dave, thanks for your informative video. I want to replace my 40 year old plus american standard toilet with a Toto drake 2, based on your recommendation. With respect to rough-in, it measures 14 1/2 to the center bolts. It has a 2 1/2 space behind the top of the tank cover right now. Is it possible with that amount of space, my current toilet is a 12 inch rough-in? Can you please advise. Thank you and stay safe. Phil C.

    Thanks for the great information. I have an older bathroom with an American Standard, but I want an ADA Toto. There is a banjo countertop so my options are limited...I need a Toto that is LESS THAN 28" TALL. What would you suggest...Supreme One, Supreme II or Soiree...of is there something else? I have a Drake in my other bathroom (no banjo) and I love it, but the height limitation (along with ADA) is frustrating. I'd love your opinion. Mikki

    • @RemodelMedia
      @RemodelMedia  Před 4 lety

      That is a great question thank you. I would recommend the Supreme II. It’s going to give you the tallest seat with the lowest tank and best flushing system for the lowest price. The soirée is good but it’s going to be a little higher priced because it is more decorative. And that’s a question I would have to ask you is how important is it for you to have a more decorative toilet. Some people love the fact that a skirted toilet is very easy to keep clean and much cleaner looking than something with the open underside. Check out this episode at about 2:20 for more info on that.

    I need a toilet with a depth less than 27". Do you know anything about Galba toilets (sold on amazon). I am between the Galba and Toto Drake II. Looking for a toilet with a good flush. Any recommendations?

    • @RemodelMedia
      @RemodelMedia  Před 4 lety +1

      I have zero firsthand knowledge of Galba toilets. However one of the things that I look for immediately when being introduced to a new product is, does the brand have a website? A quick and simple Google search reveals that there is no brand website for Galba. Which would suggest to me that these are toilets that are probably being imported from China and someone is slapping a Galba label on them. In my experience this can lead to parts problems later on getting replacement parts. Now you might buy it and prove me wrong. But let me tell you a story.
      You see when I first started doing this many years ago my mom came to me for a toilet and I sold her an import similar to these that you have found. I sold it to her because all the literature I read said it was every bit as good as the Toto. Well we put that toilet in and I got a call about that toilet every six months for several years until I finally pulled it out and replaced it with the Toto that I should’ve put it in the first place. I just got tired of replacing parts. So of course my advice is going to tell you to go with the brand that has the reputation and parts easily available. Hope this helps.

    I'VE ONLY found them by 3 manufactures. Penguin, Mansfield and American Standard.
    I've called my hotel I frequent as I disnt know these toilets existed (as a facility maintenance specialist) till I saw them there.
    Best Western in Edgewater, FL uses 2 types.
    Lowes and Home Depot dont carry them, in store.

      @RemodelMedia  Před 4 lety +1

      Actually thank you I did not even know that was a thing. You taught me something today. I did look up the specs and basically it looks like these toilets have an overflow similar to what you would find in a sink or bathtub, allowing excess water to drain in the event of a clog. In looking at the design I would ask the manufacturer two questions. The first is what guarantee do you have that the overflow won’t get clogged if you have bits of toilet paper and other stuff floating around in the bowl. Secondly why wouldn’t I just get a toilet that doesn’t clog in the first place? The toilets you’re describing all seem to have very narrow traps when compared to a Toto.

    • @RemodelMedia
      @RemodelMedia  Před 4 lety

      Whoever told you that was mistaken. A one piece toilet doesn't have a tank to bowl gasket under the flush valve. The tank and bowl are all one piece. If you're talking about the flapper, it varies by brand. There are some brands that use the exact same flush valve and flapper for most of their toilets, there are some brands that have many different version of the part. It depends on the brand you choose.
