- Windows 11 Settings You Should Change Right Now
Windows 11 is no different to Windows 10 when it comes to collecting data and forcing unwanted ads on you. Today we will take a look at what to disable in Windows 11 for a smoother experience and less telemetry by disabling annoying notifications and disabling privacy & security settings.

These are some common settings I like to change in Windows 11. Drop us a LIKE đ
Please make a video on "windows 11 is going to sleep randomly and does not wake up". There are videos but not fruitful.
Thanks a lot mate, great video. Not exactly sure what all the problems are with W11. I`ve downloaded it and my PC is working better and faster than it has for the last 2 years, must just be lucky I guess. Hope I haven`t jinxed it now đ€đ€đ€
My faceit Anticheat doesnt work anymore. Who knows what Setting I should turn back on?
3:53 Besides annoying it's a bit weird you can't uninstall Edge. Back in the Windows XP days Microsoft lost a court case for shipping Windows with Internet Explorer baked in. Developers of other internet browsers accused Microsoft of illegally maintaining its monopoly position. That's why you got a selection screen with a handful of internet browsers during the XP install after they lost in court.
Assuming that specific law hasn't changed, I'm surprised Microsoft is not just doing the same thing as in 2001 but actively preventing you to uninstall Edge and making it as annoying as possible if people do decide to use another browser.
There was a notification on my win11 that said a program was unable to make changes. How do I turn that back on?? Edit: nevermind I turned that downloads setting off and it worked after I restarted my PC. Thank you so much I really appreciate it :D
Thanks Brian for all the hard work you do when making these videos, as a disabled pensioner you have made my PC life so much easier and enjoyable. You are the best thing that has happened on CZcams.....John, Liverpool.
Clear and helpful - thank you!
Just a little tip, pin the "settings" button to taskbar; short-cut to open that window with a click.
Thanks Brian, you did it again. đđŒ I just upgraded to Windows 11 and I wanted to secure it enough to feel comfortable using it. Easy to follow.
Just got my first Win 11 laptop. This video helped me navigate around the settings and where MS moved things from W10. Nice job Brian!!
Thanks for taking the time to put this together this was very informative.
I love watching these extremely helpful videos you upload about all the rubbish apps/settings etc to turn off or uninstall that Microstiff loads in all of the machines people don't need! đ I also love hearing how your voice becomes steadily more frustrated with all of the rubbish apps etc you see as you happily toggle them off đ€Ł
This was very helpful, thanks very much!
I was a chrome user for around 5 years but now i feel edge has become a better browser than chrome.
I really like vertical tabs.. never thought I'd say it but Microsoft finally has the best web browser... They've come a long way since internet explorer days
Brave is better

I use chrome just open youtube only
Thank you for this. Adjusting the power setting to "balanced" is HUGE for increasing computer performance. Unnecessary overload!
Wait.. really?? Set it to "balance" give a better performance than "High performance"? How about when you play game?
@@Shiro_Kuma432 âHigh performanceâ is basically all gui animations, and qol details. Disabling them all (except for the one that makes text look decent cause without it the os looks awful) will actually boost performance far more then âhigh performance modeâ
@@Shiro_Kuma432 Especially on laptop it'll overheat and drain more battery unnecessarily even while idle, and windows will boost the cpu clock while under heavy load even with balanced power option
Thank you so much for this video. It was very beneficial. Keep up the Great Work! Much appreciated!
Thank you so much, very helpful!
Thanks so much Brian, very helpfull and informative as usual :)
My pleasure!
Thanks Brian, you saved me a bunch of setting-seeking...our setting prefs are basically the same.
Glad to help!
this is such a great video! Thanks...did them all and am so happy to have this guide!
Wonderful to listen, excellent vlog time management, very helpful for me. Learned so much which never thought off
thanks for the information appreciate much
I am sticking to Edge, I gotta say I love the "sleep tab" thing.
I am not a fan of Edge
I like brave
I use Edge and Brave. On rare occasions some websites with pop-up forms will only work on Edge. Edge gathers a lot of 'data' and needs a regular deep clean out.
I tried Brave some months ago, but i stopped after I lost access to my BAT.
I also prefer to use the built-in password manager rather than a 3rd party.
Anyways, I have also been looking into Opera GX, which seems very gamer focused...
Edge is the best.. I love vertical tabs and the new sleeping tabs etc
Hey Brian nice video!! I just wanted to know that is there a way to view desktop icons when you have set them not to show on your desktop? Like in windows 10 there were these two small arrows on the right that used to open a list of all your desktop icons.
Excellent you made my desktop even more simpler and easy environment. Also thanks for pointing out on how to opt from Microsoft ads or recommended settings which I felt very annoying ever since I got windows 10 till now on Windows 11 sigh
Good stuff Britec09 thanks for the help you give us. đ Have a great day. đ
Thanks, you too!
Excellent video, I learned a lot, and thank you for taking the time to produce this tutorial. I am so new to Win 11, yet it seems similar to Win 7. I recently had my laptop crash, hence the new one with Win 11. I was using an old Win 7 PC, that's why I'm comparing it to "7"
Windows 7 didn't have menus that make you do extra work to find the most basic things. My only gripe about Windows 7 was I had a scanner that worked with XP or earlier and there are no new drivers for it at all (the manufacturer is out of business). Even for other ones that had compatible drivers (because they were basically the same device) I could not find anything compatible for Windows 7 or newer. It still runs if I plug it into an XP machine. Lack of drivers for still functioning hardware is part of the reason we have e-waste problems.
@@charleshines1553 While I agree with you about the e-waste. I never actually owned a pc running windows 7. (95/xp/vista/8/8.1/10/ now 11) I have been on PC's running window's 7 so I don't think this started until around Windows 8. It's like they decided to overhaul the settings menu's, then got lazy and stopped halfway through. And it has been this way ever since. Want to change video and audio settings. You have to navigate to both the new and old settings locations to set all of your settings. It's such a joke.
Just installing win 11 at the moment while waiting was on y/tube and come across your video. All I can say is this is going to be so helpful when ready to start ( 63% haha). So cheers and you have another subscriber.
Wow I just stepped into 11 and now I can have a little more control. Much appreciated.
I stepped in it too...
Exactly the video i was looking for
Thanks you have covered a lot it really helped
Thank you Brit. Great Video.
Great stuff. If I ever upgrade to Windows 11 from Windows10, this is the best video for the job.
Glad it helped!
Awesome video! Thanks a lot for this :))
Glad you liked it!
Thank you. Turns out I had most of them set on off but some were new to me :D
Thanks a lot, I was looking for this. đđđ
Most welcome đ
Big thanks first day with windows 11 you helped me a lot thanks
Really useful - thanks!
thanks the video was quite usefull, just installed windows 11 on my thinkpad yoga and tweaked some setting
Thank you for this. Followed it all great like from me!
Thanks you so much it is wonderful video i have learn many things.
Glad I could help
Great Stuff Brian, Thank You.
My pleasure!
đđ„đ I thought actor Michael Caine was doing the audio. đ That's a compliment. Moving on, thanks for taking time to make a clear, concise, easy-to-understand tutorial for Windows 11 settings change recommendations. Big tech does too much harvesting of personal data and intrusion into privacy, so everyone would be wise to toggle off quite a few of the default settings. I use an Apple iMac 95% of the time, but occasionally use Windows to sync with my Android phone for music and such. Your teaching method is commendable and I really appreciated that you had no annoying rap/heavy metal/house âmusicâ blasting away in the background- a sign of a true amateur CZcams creator. Well done, sir!
Please Brian can you make a video on how to slipstream Windows 11 using NTLite and show users on what settings you should change there and add software and hardware drivers you should need.
Thankyou! This solved a huge problem for me after I'd tried so many other things: the problem was my screen fading out after just a minute, despite all Power Plan settings set to NEVER. The solution? See from 9:33 to 9:52: Change additional power settings, Turn off hard disk after (change to zero). Edit - if that still doesn't solve your fading screen issue, change the monitor display settings by turning off automatic screen brightness adjustment. Apologies if this doesn't belong here, I'm just so happy my problem is finally fixed!!!
Thank you!
I am happy that i found your videos it is very useful. Keep it up.
Thanks, Jan much appreciated
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO
Thank You!

Dear Brian, have you made a video about your favourite browser add-ons/extensions? Cheers!
thank you soo much
thanks very good
Good stuff! đ„đ„đŻđŻ
Thanks Brian! You're always my hero - you were first on my list after installing Windows 11. Great help, great guy!
new subs here... what an informative video I learn a lot. greetings from philippines
Very helpful, thank you. Only thing i dislike on Windows 11 is all my files are just plain yellow/beige files. Before all my files had picture of my choice. Is it possible to get that again.
7:49 there is a mistake, you need to go to Privacy and Security, please correct that, thank you very much for your nice videos
Thank you ,, i just bought a New PC with Windows 11.. You have been very Helpful....
just upgraded last night am impressed it is so much better than 10 so far.
Nope
I'm not as worried about my privacy then most but letting me know what's being tracked is important so if there is something I don't want in particular, then I can switch it off.
Tysm for the vid!
Also, do you know if they removed the "Wireless Adapter Settings" option on the Power Options window?, i can't seem to find it and i need it to change some of the default settings for it cause it's making my wifi slower trying to save battery:(
Thanks Brian, still trying to get used to Windows 11.
I wonder how many of these are things that in the country where i live, the setup screens will force the user to select if they want it on or off (unlike the US setup screens where it is a load of toggles, in the country where i live, the setup screens have one setting per screen, and two large boxes, and the user has to click one of the two large boxes to select if they want that setting on or off before it allows them to go onto the next one)
Thank you
Thank you.
Excellent
Thank you keep it up
You're welcome
Thanks again Brian â
My pleasure
Thanks sir
Thanks! Very helpful video!
Family Safety Question: If your child has a local account in Windows 11, does internal parental controls work or not?
If not, should I use other parental controls like Time Boss, Net Nanny or others?
Good review đ
Thanks! đ
How did you make your settings overlay a darker theme?
THANKS MEN
Thank you , Good information
please can you make a video about
Windows Security App & browsing control
isolation browsing
(install Microsoft Defender Application Guard)
Brian personally I like apps like settings, This PC, command prompt etc on the taskbar instead of having them in that box you showed is this still available on 11 as I have not changed over yet?
Plus mate as I have asked before what is happening with your forum?
Delivery optimization is great to have on if you game and have several machines. I'd much rather data be pulled locally instead of downloading the same large thing multiple times. And its much less likely to negatively affect my game.
On a different note setting your monitor to never shut off is crazy. A really great way to spend more, while shortening your monitors lifespan.
If you have an LED or OLED you'll see burn in 10x faster, and LEDs dim the more run hours they accumulate.
I'd rec set it to 1 hour or less.
If you really want it on all the time, even at an hour you'll never be looking at it when it flips to power save. Functionally identical, while saving power and your monitors life.
@@Lem_On_Lime id say 15 mins screen burn in is hard to get rid of
@@Lem_On_Lime 1 hour??? I have mine on 2 minutes!
@@half101080 I said "or less", he said turn off the feature completely. Which is insane.
@@Lem_On_Lime or... get this: you turn off your monitor âšmanuallyâš
Hi Britac09, i know this is an older video. I have just installed windows 11, right at the 9.23 mark in your video you talk about the power plan, when you are editing the power plan i notice you have File, Edit, View, and the Tools option in the top left, i am missing that feature, could you please explain how i can get those additional options if its not to much trouble. Thanks for all your great tips
Thx
Hi, how do you get the file and edit bar on the edit plan settings under power settings? Please
Howdy. Great.
I like win11 with a few exceptions.
1. Win11 starts apps faster but has a recource management issue. Running several apps the last one started gets little resources and the computer looks like locked. With win10 one could see all apps advancing though the computer got sluggish.
2. I don't like the stone-carving type icons in file manager and Paint. The 10 icons were more stylish.
3. Upgrading to 11 my Epson V30 scanner icon was gone. Re-installing returned the icon. The icon starts the Epson GUI but the GUI:'s links to the driver are broken. Nothing happens clicking the GUI buttons. However. The icon in Control panel / devices worked. I uninstalled Epson V30 and the Control panel icon stopped working. The device manager showed the driver had gone missing. So I inserted the installation disk and ran update driver from the DVD drive. It worked. And as a final operation I created a copy of the Control panel icon onto the desktop. Now it works the way I want. Evidently 11 is jealous and won't give anything else access to the driver. Blöörrgghh.
Regards.
You have a wonderful voice. Like the mindspace guy. You should mediations and stuff and guide people through their meditations. Wow.
Nice Video Brian. I noticed you have Escape from Tarkov on your PC and I have been trying to get a fix for this game, I recently upgraded my PC which already had Windows 11 Pro downloaded onto it and I think it is causing big problems with playing Tarkov. I am constantly being disconnected from PMC, Scav Raids numerous times each raid and I'm at my wits end trying to find a fix.I've only had this PC 2 weeks 3090, i9 12th Gen which I won in a gaming raffle and haven't been able to play Tarkov properly on this PC my old 2060 super ran Tarkov fine. If you have any fixes it would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
Wonderful and excellent mate..

Hey Brian. Could you revist this tutorial, for the latest version of Win 11?
I deleted my win 11 partition yesterday. It has absolutely nothing for me. Maybe when they do their first feature update?
Hi there, do you know how to get the flyout for media playing on win11? I've been trying to do so but I haven't found an option :(
Employers should start hiring their employees the way they setup their windows 11 from now on.
Hey there thankyou this is very helpful I noticed your windows 11 isn't activated in the video mine isn't activated to. And I can't use the right click option to click run as administrator to use windows 10 digital licence
My Windows 11 settings was already moved from my Win 10 Microsoft account settings, the only thing I don't like is Windows 11 won't let you stop backgound data from running in the windows edge browser. I recommend updating your computer to the latest systems update as of Nov. 22, 2021.
when your switching to a local account you wont be able to use the store or any microsoft functions like xbox will you?
This is one of the best videos I've seen regarding Windows 11. However, I purchased a Lenovo (inexpensive laptop from Costco) I am not able to locate the Apps and App Features. I need to install other browsers for my work as not all applications work with Edge.
10:11....if the pc has a gpu (nvidia, amd) high performance mode actually makes it so that windows allocate performance parameters to that card (the integrated gpu in the processor is turned off)
Thanks so much for this.
Please help me figure out on Windows 11 how to upload photos where they are created into their own folder/album with the date included please. I have uploaded my memory cards into the new PC and I can not find the albums, they are all over the place!
Thanks
How do I mute the âdingâ when using the volume slider? I had it muted in windows 10 but when I do exactly what I did on windows 10 to mute it, on windows 11, it doesnât mute.
Hi Britec can you do a video on windows 11 power options missing in settings control panel also the start button window closes in 1 sec so cant turn off pc
Hi there, is there an actual benefit to being on a local account instead of being connected to your Microsoft one, or is it just for the sake of it?
thx my man a nice iota flo 14 on windows 11 clean and fast
I wil run 11 on my gaming rig while Linux based gaming improves. This SO is so bloated I switched back to Manjaro Linux for work. Nevertheless, these are great tips for everyone to know. :)
