Got a job there and went to explore the area not long ago. I wouldn’t describe Durham as a “vibrant” city. While I didn’t think it was bad, most of downtown and the areas directly adjacent to are VERY run down, dilapidated, and uncouth. Homes are unkempt in the non-HOA areas. It’s mind boggling what homes are selling for in this area when they are just so mediocre and cheap looking. You can find small pockets of neighborhoods that are decent looking but good luck finding any commerce nearby. As you stated towards the end of the video south Durham is definitely worth checking out but be prepared to shell out $500,000 and above and even in these areas you will notice most NOT ALL homes were built with profits being the priority not durability. I think the area does have potential but the way it is presented in a lot of channels is way off in my opinion. The area is bland, eerily quiet and it leaves a lot to be desired. Hopefully in a few years it will have more to offer.

Also if you drive 15-20 outside the downtown area it gets pretty rural pretty fast. A LOT of homes aren’t fenced in (why?) and not too many sidewalks in a lot of neighborhoods.

How do teachers purchase homes with such low salaries? I want to relocate, but having reservations.

With the help of family or friends. Also utilizing NC programs.

Durham is super boring. As a former New Yorker I used to walk everywhere which kept me healthy. You can't do that in Durham unless you want to walk on a dirt path in a park. The jobs here pay next to nothing. The only thing I look forward to is Durham Bulls baseball games in the summer time. Food scene is 2nd grade. Nothing compared to NYC, Boston or Washington DC.

You’re not giving Durham a fair shake there my friend, there’s plenty of sidewalks and plenty to do,and depending on your skill set ,jobs pay decent,of course not like New York ,but it’s the city of medicine, jobs at duke ,unc rtp

Does anyone ACTUALLY care about diversity? I want good people, friendly people, good jobs, safe area and some things to do on the weekends. I could care less what the color of the people are or who they sleep with.

Well some of us get hate crimed if we are singled out so yes diversity is important for many people when considering where to live
