Agreed, a truck channel must own an HD diesel
I think this was your typical dad/son banter moment and was great. I look forward to the truck in the series
Is that actually his son?
@@raymonds7492 Yes, they are definitely father and son. They have established that numerous times in their videos throughout the years.
@@raymonds7492 yes, that's why Tommy still get to ride in the new truck vs taking a taxi home.
You can actually find a young Tommy in their video from I think 2009
There’s something that happens when a lover of all things auto gets their hands on an HD Turbo diesel truck.. New or old it doesn’t really matter, you experience and put one to work and it’s hard to put any other Powertrain in the same universe. Congrats boys!!
My uncle refused to buy a diesel and always towed with his 8.1.
Took my 5.9 on one trip and said he was never going to tow with his truck again.
Make sure you take off all that emissions crap so you can pollute the whole highway system with these “men of short stature” vehicles “MERICA”
@@michaelbassett5105 You must just be salty you can’t afford one.
@@KineticTaco so with that logic your getting $10 street corner tranny top ups because that’s all you can afford. Well guess what I don’t want or need a street corner top up so.....I guess I save ten bucks every pop.... hahahahhahah
I felt that with a 6.4 Hemi... And I love having a truck that brooks no argument from the trailer... It makes me much less tense after a 400 mile day and an 7K travel trailer... I ran over a tumbleweed here about a week ago by the way.
1:00 Now Roman, an electric can only tow what that truck can tow for about 2 miles
This is such an American conversation. I love it.
“I need a ranch truck”
Rest of world: 2 door, long bed, bare bones Toyota with a 4 cyl and a manual
America: “I gotta have the heated steering wheel and the appearance package”
I caught some one stealing my trailer with a little truck like the one you described. My father and I were able to catch up to him and held him at gunpoint while cops arrived because his truck bumper and hitch literally bent under the weight of the trailer in combination with him trying to jump a small curb to get away. Those small trucks are great for most normal work but when youre pulling a loaded dump trailer filled with material or a skid steer youre not going to be going anywhere safely.
Funny bc i drive a lariat f250 in california, but at my factory in nicaragua, i drive a single cab fj75 and this thing does more work in 1 day then the lifetime of my f250 here 😅
Tommy: "I'm not convinced."
Me: "I'm convinced. Convinced this will be hilarious."
Looking forward to the series, TFL crew!
The diesel is really meant for long-hauling, particularly with a trailer. Running around a ranch really could be served by a gas engine. It's cheaper and won't give you any DPF headaches.
Also, on a 10,000 lb GVWR 3/4 ton, having a diesel engine gives up a lot of payload. Besides limiting hauling capacity, that also makes it difficult to tow a large 5th wheel or gooseneck and stay inside your ratings.
Is it not good for daily use?
@@qalv97 If you're doing a lot of driving everyday, it's great. For just cruising around a ranch, it's actually bad idea. You give up payload, you won't make use of the expensive diesel's power, and the diesel emissions stuff absolutely won't set well with short hauling.
I daily my Ram 6.7L diesel, and I love it. But I use it for a lot of towing and hauling, or I use for long distance driving. If not for that, I'd be driving a gas truck.
@@Joel_E bingo. A lot of people overlook the GVWR. They just hear it’s cummins and think it tows 40,000 bumper pull
I'm old, yep 56 years old. Lol Growing up the only people that owned a diesel truck was someone that pulled a trailer, whether it was a camper, car hauler etc. There's alot of young and even older guys that buy them as a fad. Then, can't go or do anything cause they're drowning in debt over a monthly truck payment that is way bigger that they need. But hey, what do I know?🤷🤷🤷
Ha, absolutely enjoy the banter between you to. Like how Tommy is trying to hold is dad accountable for buying what they didn't want. Dad is all giddy and his son is trying to bring him back down to reality. Great video. Thank you.
electrification is no where near replacing diesel.
Government moved the date to 2030 instead of 2035 to ban gas and diesel trucks. Sucks
@@jaymoar3561 I bet that gets pushed back when we get a different president. There’s no chance we’re ready for electric semis, or electric farm equipment

Diesel is not on the way out! You really believe EV trucks are going to be out in the field working and running non stop in the freezing weather so a welder can work on site? On and on I could go. Come on Roman! 🧐☘️🙏
I’m as pro EV as it gets and even I don’t think diesels are on the out. They have their place and we will need them for quite a while to come. We need much better battery technology or to come up with a mini modular reactor to even consider replacing diesel.
There will be diesel trucks towing dead EVs off the interstate 😂. People are stupid. also why does the government tax you if your car gets over 30 mpg
You are so correct. People need to wake up. It’s a government driven thing. What most don’t understand is how bad they truly are for the environment. Sure no emissions but what happens when the batteries are shot amongst many other things. Ask an emergency response person if they want to take the jaws of life to an EV.
Diesels will be here for quite some time. EVs have far too many shortcomings compared to modern diesel work trucks, mainly range and cold weather performance. Now, I can see automakers incorporating diesel-electric power, and none other than Cummins being the first to do it. They've been doing it on trains for decades.
@@hellkitty1014 modern engine and coal plants are clean burn
1 year later. Ranch truck for sale, has only been used on ranch for ranch duty and ranch chores. Would make a good ranch truck. Snowplow included free.
2012 Ram 2500 with the 6.7 Cummins and G56 manual (4x4) bought it new with under 5 miles and now have 208,000 miles. VERY reliable and awesome pickup!
This kid is great with his constant banter. Top notch - keep it up!
Heck my pop’s 07 Dodge 5.9 Cummins SLT Mega Cab was $35,000 new, which would be $48,355 after inflation. 3/4 ton diesel truck prices are just out of hand.
Thank you gentlemen you guys just helped me make up my mind on what work truck to get. Thanks again for a great video. See you on the road soon.
Tommy quickly becoming my favorite. Love the relationship here.
In my experience that's exactly what most ranchers (at least the ones I've been around) would get. Ranch trucks are mostly for driving around and hauling trailers over long distances so they usually buy the expensive luxury models. Farm trucks are mostly for carrying all types of stuff in the bed and they get beat on, so those are usually the base model cheap trucks with the large bed.
I had the exact same truck, payload was terrible (2064 lbs) Had to trade it for a SRW 3500, now I am at 4060 lbs. After passengers and gear that payload on the 2500 cant pull many 5th wheels (to stay within manufacturers limits anyway)
Kelderman makes a coil replacement kit which is airbags. Doubles your payload capacity without sacrificing ride quality with the leaf springs. Will this change the rating on the door? No! But unofficially you will have same carrying capacity of a 3500 SRW. Unless you get great trade in plus a deal on the new truck.. No reason to waste the $$
@@08LVB I understand, but also want to remain legal on payload as far as insurance goes.
Yellowstone has sold more HD Rams to young men, men experiencing mid / late life crisis than any other advertising campaign. Money well spent by Stellantis / Fiat back when the series started. Good truck. Unfortunately made in Mexico for 2 dollar an hour wages…
Love the exhaust brake on this truck!
Truck prices are insane. 5 year old RAMs with over 100k miles are selling at almost what a new truck with the same features were selling for 2 years ago. I was considering trading up from a 2008 Tundra to a Ram 2500 but you'd have to be insane to do that with where prices are right now.
Yep
Same in my country, 2020 Ranger being sold over the price it was purchased more than year ago.
I'm in a 2008 Tundra also. Usually trade up at 10 years but this truck has been problem free and I was waiting on the all new 2022 model. After seeing the '22 isn't the "world beater" the said it was going to be, I'm wishing I wouldn't have waited. TRD Pro doesn't even have recovery hooks!
Right now? Its the way it will be going forward.
Well, used car prices have moved down in the past 2 months, so you might miss your best chance to do that
I cant say i learned much in this video but it definitely gave me a laugh. its always fun to see you and your father quarrel over cars.
Beautiful ‘work’ truck! Great choice and decision I would make myself. Looking forward to seeing future videos, very excited! Congratulations guys
I agree it makes more seance to buy a old used truck for ranch work unless like TFL your job is to review new trucks.
Would love to see some amber safety beacons installed
I have to agree with Tommy on this one. I think you’re about to prove how insensible new trucks are for working. It’s too nice and expensive for working.
I owned a diesel F250 and F350 in my 20’s. Now in my 30’s, while I think they’re very cool, I can’t justify the cost of owning and operating another. Unless it’s making money pulling heavy loads. A bare bones regular cab long bed gas 7.3 F350 is a work truck if you have to go new.
Most skilled tradesmen are making over 100k these days, lots of people have the money and use for them
@@rwh_ 30% of households make over 100k in a year. That’s 2 people working. I don’t know how you think a lot of people have $68k to blow. If you’re being financially smart, your vehicle is less than half your annual income and you don’t take out a loan over 60 months. With zero down and zero interest, that’s over $1,100 per month in payments.
Median mortgage in the US is $1.6k per month. So $2.7k for 1 house and 1 truck but most people have another car so let’s add on an average of $500 since that is an average car payment. So now we are at $1.6k for cars and $3.2k for rent and cars.
Good budgeting says your rent/mortgage should be under 25% of your post tax income. Total cars should be under 20%. $3.2k is 40% of $8k. After you consider about a 30% tax rate between fed and state you have to be making $140k annually to be able to afford this truck, an average house, and an average car for your significant other.
@@jlaw1901 30% of HH that’s like 36 million households plus factor in retired people who have a lot of money and no income, that’s a lot of potential customers
@@jlaw1901 the other thing you’re not considering is most people don’t buy a 3/4 ton diesel as their first car, they usually have an old one they’re trading in that knocks off 20-50% of what they need to finance
@@rwh_ and what you’re not considering is $68k gets you cloth seats and no bed liner. That truck is almost entirely bare bones for a high premium. Trucks are way over priced. It should be closer to $40k
2005 I bought a brand new 2500 with the 5.9 Cummins diesel and yes white it stays looking cleaner longer. 185,000 miles now. Get 23 mpg highway and it's all original. Repairs new water pump and new injector tube and regular maintenance. Truck does everything. Paid for and loving it.
I am in agreement with others who say these trucks are not on the way out. I personally believe diesel trucks like the one you bought up to big rigs will be around longer than gas trucks. Electric vehicles have a long way to go before they can tow a large trailer across the country.
Trucks are just too expensive and this truck seems pricey but I’ve been looking at HD trucks and this is in line with everything else out there.
I too love the sound of a diesel btw
Lol have fun replacing the entire exhaust system cause of the def every 50k
Don’t forget to fill it up with that blue pisswater so it doesn’t make me gag when I’m behind these pollution machines
@@michaelbassett5105 enjoy charging every 100 miles and never getting places on time when towing. Or wasting all your freetime at charging stations. Lol facts diesel has no competition from EV for the foreseeable future due to energy density a fact of physics.
@@eichler721 so what are you saying I need to buy an electric toy car or what? Hybrid is the only way to go right now you get benefits of electric without the hassle and the reliability of being able to use it without hunting for an outlet. I’m just saying that diesels stink! Kinda like when every farmer had pigs and they smelled money. Now the factory farm just smells like pig shit to them. Yeah go figure.
It’s the turbo not the diesel. My gas truck does the same thing .
Best work truck ever! Good luck guys with the RAM Diesel! Looking forward to seeing what kind of contend you have planned for this truck!
I would love if you had a banner in the screen with all the numbers converted to the metric system when you talk about Torque, mpg, miles and weight so I don’t have to pause the video every time you mention something of the above and google convert the numbers! I know a lot of farmers and ranchers in my area of the country that would buy this in a heartbeat. Male farmers where I come from love their trucks and like well equipped and nice looking trucks at that. In other words, Cadillac equipped HD 4x4 trucks.
I commend you for pursuing a dream and I am envious. Having an acreage to work on can be very fulfilling. I choke on the $68,000 but you need the right tools to get the job done. And, BTW, Kevin Costner does have his own ranch.
I work construction and we tow skid steers, stone, brick with 2 6.4l hemi truck and they work great. We have a dump truck with the 6.7 and its great but i wouldnt say its a must
More important, a work truck needs an eight (8) foot bed. Growing up our farm Truck was a 69 Dodge Power Wagon, and dad put a 10 foot flat bed on it. Was a great truck, that's what I learned to drive on. 318, 4 on the floor and 4 wheel drive, with granny gear. It would pull anything as long as you could get power to the ground without spinning.
6.4 hemi does good enough with skidsteer uphill? I watched their reviews on the 6.4 and was sure i needed the cummins so i got 2. a 3500 single and a 4500 dually. Id even say the cummins 3500 with g56 manual isnt enough for my excavator. the 4500 with the aisin is a beast though
Love my Cummins also. I've got 394,000 on my truck and still running strong 💪
Congratulations on the new truck, I'm a Ford man but you can't do any better than the Cummings. Can't wait to watch the ranch grow & with the help of the Cummings. And I think you did great by buying a heavy duty truck with a diesel. Good choice. 👍🏻
Yeah he could. Should have bought a F250 with a PowerStroke
Good luck with your new "work truck". For sure small diesel engines in cars and small trucks are going. They will still be used in the HD trucks like , F350 and 3500, for a while longer. I see the 7.3 Ford more and more in place of the DSL. However if you are towing over 17,000 lbs, diesel is the only choice right now.
Most Owen operations are spending that much or more for the own personal "work truck". The price you paid is inline. 👍
I agree with Tommy. That's a ridiculous amount to pay for a middle model truck. Don't get me wrong I love my fully loaded Laramie but I also don't buy new so mine was much less.
Wouldnt be anymore, go buy a yr or two old used truck of equivalency unless your talkin 10 yrs old in which case not even comparable at that point. In my opinion atleast!
@@HVTMuddvain That's what I normally do, 2-3 years old with less than 35k miles. Saved $30k with my current truck. That won't work with today's market but by the time I need another new truck it'll be back to a normal market.
Unfortunately in today's economy prices on everything are insane.
Many in my extended family are cattle ranchers and most of them run the shorter bed. If it can tow a cattle or horse trailer, it's a ranch/farm truck. I think you would be surprised how many ranchers run the higher trim levels.
Beautiful truck. Have to give it too the boy he keeping it real with Dad. Andre is the man.
Having a brand new cummins diesel is so cool...
If this was my Dad and I, the argument would have been reversed. I would have wanted the 68,000 truck and my Dad would be shocked and never allow us to buy something like that.
About time you bring on a diesel truck. I want hear all about maintenance and any quirks you have on the Ranch.
Will be interesting to see how you guys manage the low payload capacity of the 2500 series truck with the diesel engine. Most buyers don't realize that payload is so low on those, and payload will be what caps your legal towing capacity. Can't wait to see more!
The 2500 Rams ride nice with their coil rear suspension set-ups, but they are severly hampered by it. They handle significantly less than the leaf-sprung 3500s.
These Cummins equipped Ram 2500s have a 10,000lbs GVWR but a 27,000lbs GCWR and theirs will be able to legally tow about 19,000lbs. They only need to worry about payload with their trailer tongue weight which they still probably have around 2,000lbs to play with since it's a big horn. TFL guys will be just fine!
Just FYI, the white long bed crew cab HD seen in this video being referred to as a work truck, was actually a Laramie, likely with an 85k MSRP. Just because a truck is white, does not mean it's a cheap work truck.
All my personal trucks are white including my TRX and both my HD RAMs.
Note the factory fender flairs and LED headlights on the truck in this video.
Fender flairs are on Laramie and Laramie + trim trucks.
The 2019+ flairs are also a bolt on flair that bolt through the face of the fender, so they really can't be added, as an accessory. Not without a great deal of expense and effort.
I had just gone through this with my new 2022 Bighorn, and settled for aftermarket flairs pained to match, that sort of look similar to the OEM flairs.
I love this. Roman being Roman and impulse buying a new truck just because he wants to buy a new truck. And he is hot for a Cummins diesel pickup. Any Cummins pickup. And using a totally bogus excuse of getting a work truck for the Ranch. And Tommy is roasting him for it. Now on with the show.
Really looking forward to this series!!
You just limited yourself on payload getting the 2500 Cummins. You should’ve gotten the 3500 Cummins or 2500 Hemi combo.
I agree, but finding a short bed 3500 right now is almost impossible unless it's a mega cab limited. This whole let's only build the baller spec trucks is getting really old
How do you know they need more payload than this offers? Just because you can get more, doesn't mean they need to get it.
@@lyman135 average trailer is 10% tongue weight, In a 20,000 lb towing capacity only leaves about 200 lb left. so essentially Tommy's the only one that could drive it with a full load.

Crazy how the MSRP on that was 68k…I picked up my brand new 19 Denali HD with the diesel for 64k and it stickered for 72. Nice lookin truck, seems more reasonable around 58-60.
You bought the 2019 in 2019? If so that transaction is not at all like what is happening in 2022 with diesel 3/4 and 1 ton diesel pickups. The over 10% discount is gone for now. The incentives to dealer from mfr are not there now. The piles of trucks on lot for weeks is not happening so the dealer discounting his markup to move the vehicle is not there. If you don't want to to pay sticker price plus then the next guy will.
I grew up on a farm. I'm with Tommy on this one, city slickers pretending to be farmers.
Gotta start somewhere brother. Although agreed it was overkill on the truck lol.

I am excited your your taming tumbleweed construction series. A lot can be done with some rock, dirt a skid steer and a tractor. I agree with a Roman, a fairly low\ mid spec truck is perfect for work. Hopefully don’t have to worry with down time and the heated seats, steering wheel will feel great on cold days! Agreed prices are crazy for what you get. But it’s the times we are in.
Daaaaaaamn... Tommy being the voice of reason, and making very valid points.
Why does the hood look popped even when it isn't? And boy does that diesel eat into the payload, I mean 2200lbs for an HD, yikes!
Grats - and those are really great trucks, you will be happy with the investment.
Roman is happy! Congrats for a very nice truck
If you got the Laramie or Limited for ranch work, I might say overkill. As the Big Horn is just a single step up, you're fine. Just remember one thing, it is a truck every time you scratch it.
Interesting how much these Ram's are, my 2021 Chevy Silverado LT 2500HD Duramax with Z71 package has 445hp and 910tq with 10 speed Allison, heated seats and steering wheel. It is very comparable trim level to this Ram. It stickered 5k less than Ram. Yes, everyone says the interior isn't great, but I've had no issues with it. New trucks have gotten too focused on luxury and I cannot justify the 10k jump for the LTZ.
Cannot drive a screen or even a bigger screen.

I’m a diehard Chevrolet fan and just for kicks, I researched comparable Silverado LT 2500 HDs and found some around Denver that are cheaper than the RAM they bought. I found ones that are $3-$5,000 cheaper with the Z71 off-road package which comes with the spray-in bed liner, dampen tailgate with ones with the powered up and down function, Duramax Diesel engine that offers more horsepower and torque than their Cummins, some in the Custom trim, even a few with a sunroof. Just my opinion, they should have gone to the Chevy.

I'll try and word this right. There isn't much that a 2500 (3/4ton) can haul that would out match the gas engine. You don't really get into diesel territory until you get into 1 ton weight.
I always say buy what you want. There is no feeling like a diesel, and the clatter and turbo whistle is icing on the cake.
The other thing you’ll NEED is a Bambi basher (aka a grill guard).

I wouldn’t fret about only a base model being suitable for farm work. I’m a full time farmer/rancher and I drive an F350 lariat. The leather holds up better than cloth when you’re getting in and out a hundred times a day. Plus when you spend this much time in your truck, that extra comfort makes a difference. Then when you consider how small the cost of mid trims are relative to the total cost, it’s just fine to pick up some options on your work truck.

"electrification is coming" with how EV's suffer range wise even with a small trailer on it. I wouldn't be worried about EV's replacing a diesel truck anytime soon.
Nice dude! Cummins! Ram....nuff said.
Wow, great-looking truck. Someone at work recently bought the Ram 2500 Longhorn, interior as nice as a Mercedes.
My work van is a MB SPRINTER. It is nothing but problems. The V6 diesel is so gutless that it's shadow has way more power. If you love having barely any heat in the winter, you will love the diesel. My work van can barely keep the windshield ice free when it snows. Diesels are expensive to maintain and only useful if you tow real heavy loads.
To think electrification is anywhere near ready to replace diesel and the internal combustion engine is completely asinine
True, but every god damn reviewer of new cars must say "before we go electric", like when ? In 25-30 years ? They're pushing EVs without logic or reason
Electrification is coming? Next you are going to tell me America is going metric. 🙄
You are the dude from green acres but it's still cool. All this is going to be fun and fun to watch. It already is. Thanks guys
Just call him Oliver
Good luck with yours! I bought a 22 fully loaded longhorn 3500 mega cab HO for my farm/ranch. You can use an expensive rig for it just gotta take care of it. Watch out for your radio though my 12” is almost unusable with glitches that ram just keeps saying a future update will fix.
Ram heavy duty proudly made in Mexico 🇲🇽
Mines a 2019 2500 Longhorn Megacab. No problems whatsoever. I came from a tundra and never had a single issue with that truck. Hopefully this truck will last as long as my tundra and trouble free.
@@iblongshia I had a 19 limited and a 21 longhorn both 2500s never had an electric issue. My 16 Laramie though that was a lemon with electronic problems.
TFL!!!!This truck will get squatty! You need the 3500! If your actual hauling. The new 2500 suspension is not as tough. My dads 2016 coil spring held but the new 2500 doesn't. Im excited finally you guys are testing real pickups!
Diesel is not on the way out. Electric crap cant go anywhere without charging.
Gas is going out….not diesel
Gas isn't going out. It would cripple the world EVs are trash I'll never own one
If anything non commercial diesel is dying out. No fleets or farms buy diesel pickups like they used to
If you want sticker shock come to Canada. Our MSRP is about $15-20K more. Love the RAM HD.
That's because the conversation rate is .75 on average. Adds up on a 60 grand truck
Congrats! Very nice truck!
Tell me your a city boy trying to be a rancher without telling me you are a city boy trying to be a rancher. This whole video 🤦🏻♂️
Nice hat
Thanks it’s a resistol 10x. Has held up great working on my ranch.
Sucker. You’re going to hate owning it. Should have gone some research.
Any gas 3/4 ton would have been better than this turd. Lots of rams burning to the ground in garages lately
Congrats Roman ‼️ 👏 ‼️ 👏
Diesel isn't on the way out...20 years from now we'll still be driving them. Amazing truck!
I wanna see you guys do ranch work with that new lightning you guys ordered too. Not a ranch truck, but it’s the first electric pickup to hit the market that’s designed for actual work.
Hey Roman, your getting started with a ranch, and now a diesel powered ranch truck. Now you'll have to compare tractors. Have you decided what kind of ranch? Raising cattle, pigs , chickens crops or maybe service dogs. Just remember that when you come to pick a tractor the new ones also can't be repaired by the rancher. I don't recall how big your ranch is but you may just do local produce to utilize the space you have. Good luck with your endeavors. Ron from South Central Ont. Canada , Kawartha Lakes Region. Roman, you have not thought this out well. I'm a trucker, as in big rigs. That truck is designed to be heavy all the time. 24-7. Bedliner and fifth wheel will be needed. Yes it can haul an excavator but unless you have a CDL, Andre or Mr. Truck will have to drive it. And good luck with the DPF filter. RAM is rumored to have problems with them. Hopefully, it will be able to tell the difference between summer and winter fuel. If not, you'll get to enjoy the bliss of a parked regen that takes 45 minutes to an hour of just sitting there burning diesel.
Let's not forget the sticker shock of diesel fuel. I'm gonna laugh my butt off when you have to go and fill it at almost $4 a gallon with prices only going higher. There's a reason why truckers have fuel surcharges.
Also, does it qualify as a commercial vehicle based on use? If so, good luck with all the taxes. I'll be laughing my butt off with that bill.
I have to agree with Tommy on this one. You've opened up a can of worms without consulting Andre and the Yak ranch. Stay away from all casinos because you're gonna need all the good luck you can get with this one.
Agree on everything. Buying a new diesel is idiotic and I'm a diesel tech. Fleets and farms only run gas now for reliability and now fuel prices.
I just ordered a 22 ram 2500 night edition limited. I cant wait to get it 6 months from now.
