1997 SeaDoo GTX 787 Project Jet Ski Will it Run Sitting for 8 YEARS

I bought this 1997 SeaDoo GTX for $550. The previous owner took it on trade for work performed. He said that it needs RAVE valves, and he included the parts to rebuild the valves. The ski had been sitting outside for 8 or 9 years uncovered. So far it seems that I got lucky with this ski, the engine fired right up and compression is 150 psi on both cylinders. The ski needs to be tested on the water to see how it performs under load, but I expect it to be fine.

I haven't been around 2 stroke doos in a while but I thought the FI and especially DI ones were cursed with discontinued fuel pumps. Has that changed? My 97 GTX like yours has half the hours but looks twice as rough. Amazing how good it looks for the hours on it.

I like the direct injected 2 strokes, they are VERY good on fuel, idle perfect, and have lots of power. I think people who bash them don't know how to fix them. The skis here don't get much use with our short summers so old machines like my 97 still look great

I have 1 question, I have some 951s qmd a 787 just like this one. I'm sort of new to skis honestly but good mechanically just learning still. I cant find this on the internet anywhere to actually be able to see what I need to know. My 951 has double springs, a small one and a bigger one, the 787 I'm not sure if someone messed with them before so what I want to know. Does the 787 as you show here have 2 springs per rave valve or only 1 longer spring?

I only recall having 1 spring in the 787. Maybe check eBay and see what the used 787 and 951 RAVE valves have??

I ended up buying my yamie from Pioneer motorsports i got super lucky on it because when i first heard it run 2 of the 3 oil lines were off.. a buddy and i spent 10 hrs doing lines and dplate since then ive put 22 hrs on it and before the weekend i have aquired a 95 xp (not running needs silinoid.) and a 95 gts(rtr needs sponson put back on) both need some work both come on a double shorelander trailer and i paid 2k for it..

I oiled the cylinders before starting it. The smoke stops once it's running in the water
