    Should you, or should you not remove the intake baffle on the 5th Gen 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel trucks!?! I tried on my 2021 Cummins, but actually failed... Turns out in the 5th Gens, Ram made the "new and improved intakes" on the trucks designed a little differently than the 4th Gen trucks... there was no foam to take out!!

    Good theory on baffle removal, I’m just not seeing it as a detriment. Performance engines, don’t have baffles and do just fine. Air volume is air volume, it’s not going to pick one spot of the turbine wheel to pass through. Only real way to tell is to put it on the dyno, not a just a scanner and butt dyno and do a before and after resonator delete. For some extra mpg, as long as it’s under warranty I’d take that sucker out and put it back in before servicing since it only takes 2 minutes to remove

    I think the divided baffle is more about air velocity, and less about sound. The vanes of the turbo divide the air into each passage of the impeller.

  • @Subi_doo
    @Subi_doo Před rokem +1

    Aftermarket intakes don’t add a baffle, and they gain hp. The stock setup with reduced restrictions is a cheap alternative to an aftermarket intake. Likely that theory on the air not hitting the center of the turbine is exactly what it is, a theory and has no solid proof. Likely they felt what most people do when adding an intake is a slight loss on the bottom end. Ive never seen a high horsepower engine have adverse affects from a free flowing intake. You make lose alittle bottom end due to the free flow, but you pick it back up top.

    Just a heads up, if you want to save your brakes put the exhaust break to on instead of auto. Auto only works when you press the breaks on the truck whereas On works when you take your foot off the gas.

    • @ChasBrey
      @ChasBrey Před 2 lety +11

      I prefer keeping mine set on auto. This way I can still leverage the ability to coast when I lift off the pedal, and just a tap on the brakes gets it to engage. Auto also helps maintain speed on downgrades, particularly when using cruise control, but also works without it.

      I mean, yes and no… if you remove the baffle, it’ll definitely make the turbo noise more audible… I chose not to because I heard of negative effects to removing it entirely. If you watch the video, I specifically tell you that the purpose was to remove the intake baffles green foam that typically is wrapped around the baffle itself. Although come to find, that that 5th gen Rams do not come with the foam as the 4th gens previously did. Looking back, and noticing after replacing the intake housing itself, I should’ve went for a ride with the baffle completely removed to see the actual difference… turns out we’re all not perfect and it slipped my mind while filming 🤷🏻‍♀️

    The air going to the bottom and wearing out bearings i call bullshit. Spent the last 10 years building power plant turbines, the turbine itself is pulling air in, its not being forced into itself down the tube, its pulling the volume of air directly in front if itself evenly there is no way its only pulling air to the bottom, ever. Trust me if a banks intake doesnt have one its bullshit. Cummins doenst even design that intake its mopar ram
