  • The World Is Not Enough is a first-person shooter video game developed by Eurocom and based on the 1999 James Bond film of the same name. It was published by Electronic Arts and released for the Nintendo 64 on October 17, 2000, shortly before the release of its PlayStation counterpart. The game features a single-player campaign in which players assume the role of MI6 agent James Bond as he fights to stop a terrorist from triggering a nuclear meltdown in the waters of Istanbul. It includes a split-screen multiplayer mode where up to four players can compete in different types of deathmatch and objective-based games.

      My cartridge was grey, not blue. I had a black turok 2 cartridge, but it did not contain the popular split screen multiplayer glitch, because it was a german version so despite being black it still had its bugs patched.

    Most underrated Bond game, and quite an underrated N64 game. If you had to choose to play this or Goldeneye, of course you'd play Goldeneye, but if you're a Bond fan there's no reason to avoid this game. Both Agent Under Fire and Nightfire (the next two big Bond games that were released) are far more popular than this game and yet both lack the complex mission objectives and less-linear level designs that TWINE offers... Its unpopularity is strictly a case of living in the direct shadow of its big bother.

    • @overwatch761
      @overwatch761 Před 4 lety +3

      @@SeltsamerAttraktor The 4kb per texture limitation is highly overrated, too many make a song and dance about it online, all it really did was make more work, Ithe PS1 had a 2Kb per texture limitation but it was easily overcome due to CD. There was nothing stopping N64 developers other than cart size from tiling textures, clamping multiple textures, transparencies to simulate much larger ones - this was done by the likes of Rare in Banjo Kazooie onwards and Factor 5 - cart size was the limiting factor - leading to a lot of developers stretching textures hastily and reusing to save time and space, Nintendo were rubbish at texturing, as shown by Twilight Princess on GCN, hence why they steer away from realism now. Couple this with very inefficient microcode supplied by SGI/Nintendo that wasn't particularly well suited for games - I think this was stated by Julian Eggbrecht of Factor 5 in an interview with NGC if I recall.
      I think however, should the N64 homebrew scene take off fully which it is starting to show promise, the likes of the Everdrive 64 could play host to N64 games released from 90's cart size restrictions.

    I remember my cousin showing up with this game when I got to his birthday party in 2000. His birthday was a week after this game's release and he's a huge Bond fan. The impressive smoothness for an n64 shooter in comparison to Perfect Dark, Goldeneye or Turok 2 really put this in a league of it's own for us at the time. The voice acting was also quite impressive and almost had us fooled into thinking the movie actors were present. Nowadays this is probably the easiest fps game on the n64 to get back into due to the relative smoothness compared to other n64 shooters. This will always be a personal favorite of mine and a gem in my collection

    Absolutly brilliant game. The multiplayer was king and I and my friends spent hundreds of hours in it. Different chas with different stats and different difficulties of AI, even Chas with special abilities like Oddjob and his flying hat as a weapon spiced it up and - if I remember correctly - different cha treats. SOme more aggressive, some more defensive, some close range,...
    The maps where divers, long range battel maps, short range tacicle maps, rocketluncher maps, everything.
    The missions are extreamly well done and varied. No sound sneaking, night vision shoting, rail shooting and so on.
    I can barely compare it to golden eye tho, as I did play golden eye but not enough to compare it. I did miss that 'the world is not enough' didnt had the akimbo weapon style nor the golden gun...

    I actually liked this a lot and wasn't sure at the time why it got dumped on so bad. That said, I really think that if it had managed to come out in 98 or 99 it would have been MUCH more highly regarded as a 2nd installment to the 007 series on the system, but by 2000 I think people had played Goldeneye to death, not to mention the fact that Perfect Dark had already come along and wowed everyone by the time this came out. Goldeneye is hard to beat, like you mentioned, and Perfect Dark was another then-new 900 pound gorilla in the genre. Those were hard acts to follow and I can see how that really cheapened this otherwise great game at the time.

If I can offer one criticism, it's this: when you tell me about some feature or particular design choice that you like, it would be great if it was showcased at that point in the video. This one in particular has a moment where you talk about how the voice acting is really good and you would never really know it wasn't the cast... and then you don't give us a sample to work with. Or you tell us about how satisfying and bassy the guns are... but then don't give us any sound samples. The Perfect Dark review has a few of these moments, too.

    To be honest. AI in Goldeneye was horrible. They were either scripted to behave specifically, or they were programmed to charge at you. The only thing that made AI enemies interesting in Goldeneye was their animation. To compare it's AI to this game and actually say it's better easily causes me to scratch my head. I think AI enemies behaved better, but only in a visual animation way, not exactly how they performed as actual enemies.
    Even Perfect Dark wasn't an improvement in a "Smart" sense, just better general animation of enemies, including death animations. Though what i loved about Perfect Dark was that enemies could surrender some times, which was freaken awesome but rare. I had one instance I ran into a room on Perfect Dark, killed everyone but one guy and the last guy literally throw his gun down and surrendered, I'm not even sure if I've ever had that happen since. And Yes, I was the nice guy, I always knocked them out instead of killing them, RARE was at least nice enough to let players not kill people.
    That being said. I still consider this game the best James Bond Game on the Nintendo 64. And I refuse to let my nostalgic love of Goldeneye dictate otherwise. But if I had to choose for pure fun factor. Perfect Dark was my favorite N64 shooter. In most respects Goldeneye feels bland when compared to either, outside of it's excellent sound track. lol
    Now that being said. Not to dis either game's AI in most respects. I rarely see a game with "GOOD" AI. As I honestly believe true AI doesn't exist in a video game. I mean even something as awesome as Medal of Honor Front Line has AI as horrible as this game in almost all respects. lol
    I owned both of these games. Goldeneye was first, but I never considered it the best. There were better shooters on the N64. Heck, I even considered some of the Duke Nukem Games more fun than Goldeneye on the N64. I really think people often let nostalgia dictate too much on their own opinions. For the same reason why I struggled to understand why my cousins would prefer to play Goldeneye vs say Perfect Dark, despite Perfect Dark was clearly a vastly superior version of Goldeneye. lol

      The Goldeneye-enemies went on a route. They´re never on the same place when you came in the level. Thats the only difference between goldeneye-AI and other Shooter-AI on N64. Thats why Goldeneye is better than the others.
      I think on N64 were more FPS than on Playstation, and all make a lot of Fun.

    It amazes me how flawless this game is. Recently I discovered this game from a video about FPS games on n64. It got my attention when the video said the game was similar to Golden Eye. I was interested because I absolutely love games like Golden Eye, Perfect Dark and Time Splitters 2. First person shooters with objective based levels where you use all manner of gadgets, BUT the shooting doesn’t take a backseat. Your not sneaking around, picking off guards one by one with weakass weaponry. You’re blowing bad guys away by the truckloads with a full arsenal of satisfying firepower. While watching reviews of this game I was like “ok this looks awesome but when is the guy gonna bring up the issues of this game that makes it bad. Because this game gotta be god awful somewhere, otherwise people would talk about this game a whole lot more”. But to my surprise this game looks really top notch. Never knew Golden Eye was so regarded as the best 007 game so much to almost completely over shadow this game. A real shame I have to say. I’m definitely gonna pick this one up now and look forward to playing through it on the hardest difficulty, like with the others

Another one is HacX Twitch n’ kill. Ironically just like with Blake Stone, this game was built with an engine made by Id. This engine was the DOOM engine. Now I don’t know if HacX got released before or after, but it was overshadowed by Id’s next game Quake

    @Scubagon Před 7 lety +2

    I really enjoyed this game and found it to be very underrated. I had often thought that this game used a tweaked version of the engine Eurocom used in Duke Nukem: Zero Hour.
    The multiplayer in this game was fun, but the levels weren't quite as good as Goldeneye. However, it ran a lot smoother.
    A couple of things to note: First, if you played against bots in multiplayer, you could go up to a bot point blank and circle strafe around it. The bot would just stand there and you'd get some easy kills. Also, head shots from just about any weapon are an instant kill. Even punching someone in the head kills them.
    Second: If you play this game and walk off a ledge that's high enough to kill you when you hit the ground, hit the jump button before you land and you won't get hurt. However, you can't jump off the ledge and then hit the jump button again, as that won't work.
    Also, I really enjoy your videos, Glenn. I have 39 games for my N64 and I'll continue getting them when I can. You've definitely earned a subscriber. Thank you for the videos!

    It really followed the movie well, which was pretty cool when doing solo. Otherwise it's ok, though some solo levels aren't that fun, and I doubt people did too much multiplayer. They added some new things like adding objectives mid-mission, and watch functions. I would say they tried, in their own EA style, and did some nice stuff, but it ends up being ok.
