Fortunate enough to have two. One from the early 1980's and a new one. I must say I prefer the one made by Olin Kodesha Japan 1980's over the new one made in Belgium.
Are you saying the newer 2018, 2019, 2020 etc are better then the original Winchester 101? Reason for the question is I have looked for an older 101 in 28 gauge and find as usual overpricing. I'm wondering if I should go new. I think the originals are great but prices are much to high. Thanks
There is no way new models are better than the original japanese manufactured models. You could look at Winchester 96 (Japan), Nikko Shadow (very similar mechanics and better woods) or Weatherby Olympian (101 clone from japan?) There were higher grade 101's, for instance Super Grade, Pigeon Grade or Diamond Grade. I would steer away from belgian or spanish made Winchester models.
Agree. There is nothing special about the recent Belgian workmanship. My friend bought one of the new Belgian 101's and traded it off in a week. Kicked like a mule and the chokes tubes were threaded off center. Bought a Browning 725 and has been shooting it ever since.@@SilojensenDK
Miruko never made the 101. Kodensha did. Miroku made the Browning Citori. Nikko made some nice shotguns, too, All the old Belgian gunsmiths are long dead or retired. The new Belgian guns are nothing to write home about. I think the Japanese manufactured guns are better then what Belgian is now putting out.@@JB-mo8rs
I have a 38 year old 101 from my Grandpa and it works great and looks brand new

The new ones are better, steel quality, stock, internal design the old ones are very collectable but it depends what you want a 101 for

Scrap compared to the Japanese 101s
The Miroku guns are nice, however they’re about 8 lbs
