Adjust Pop-Up Headlights Perfectly

  • Properly adjusted C3 Corvette headlights are a safety consideration best left to professionals with the right equipment.
But every once in a while, I like to DIY these projects to see if I can fix them myself, and since my left (driver's) side headlight was totally misaligned, I figured I had nothing to lose and a lot to gain if I was able to correct the issue.
I rarely drive my Corvette at night, but on those rare occasions, the misaligned headlight literally pops up its ugly head and bothers the heck out of me.
I improvised a totally unscientific alignment method on my garage wall to use as a reference to align my headlights.
The results obtained from my simple approach were a definite improvement. Not perfect, but they made the night driving experience better and safer than before.
To be clear, this is how I chose to address this problem. I am NOT saying you should do this. In fact, there are many safety factors involved, including the possibility of an improperly adjusted headlight blinding oncoming traffic. So let a pro with the right equipment adjust yours.
While I adjusted the headlights, the adjusting mechanisms were covered with rust, dirt, and dead bugs. This prompted me to start addressing those issues, and I plan to publish a video about restoring some of the headlamp components shortly.
    Thank you for watching! 🙂👍🏻

Thanks for another great video. I was wondering what light bulbs are in your gauges. My 1978s bulbs are dim. Yours look so good. Thanks, Ken.

Hello, and glad to hear you enjoyed the video.
I replaced the incandescent bulbs with LEDs from SuperBrightLEDs.com.
I used BA9S-CWHP5 Cool White bulbs for all the instruments but they do offer other colors as well.
I ordered a box of 20 which gave me a couple extra bulbs... just in case. I also replaced the incandescent courtesy bulbs with two 1156-CW18-T LEDs.
Incandescent bulbs get so hot they are a fire risk, IMO. LEDs not only look great but they also help eliminate that danger.
However, LEDs are not dimmable, which really does not matter to me but thought to bring that fact to you attention just in case.
      Thanks for following! 😊👍🏻

thanks for your video, the height of the ribbon crosses at what height you put them ? you measured the height from, floor in the center of the lighthouse Lowbeam ?, thanks and greetings from northern Italy.

I placed the markers at original light beam height to have a starting point to work from, and I adjusted the headlights based on that.
