I'm 50 yrs old and a lifetime boxing fan ☆ this was one of the best fights I've ever seen! I still remember that night.
Mine was the Lacy fight
Me too mt
@@IanBrewster Great entertainment but too one sided.
@@IanBrewster that was joe shining that night
Classic bro
I'm a dane, in the break after 5th, Kesslers trainer says "Yes, that's the way to win that shit! It's hard, but that's the way." Kessler is a counterboxer and doesn't like to be on the attack, but he gives all he's got in the attempt. Great fight from them both.
The more i watch Calzaghe the more i think he would have beat Froch easily. Fast hands, boxing IQ, chin, footwork. Joe would have picked Froch apart. Also he could fight fire with fire if it came to it. Froch was a great fighter but Calzaghe was better in every department
Froch had the power and maybe the chin but he would have taken a lot to get near calzaghe. Joe also had a really good chin aswell.
Usually it's Froch's fantastic work rate and fitness that helps him beat his opponents but joe had almost unlimited stamina and endurance.
Yes, he would have outboxed Froch and his stamina would have seen him through to the end without Froch getting to him as he could with lesser opponents.
I'd say Calzaghe had the better chin out the two, fought and took hits from much harder punchers of the twos career. Calzaghe was a level above Froch, if only he and Mayweather/Pacman were in the same division - what a fight that would be.
look what ward did to froch
He would've humiliated Froch.
Both superb boxers.
I was a big Kessler fan. Never thought anyone could beat him. Gotta give it to Joe, what a boxer. They both are legends in my eyes.
Joe Calzaghe forever legend 🏴
One of the best fights I've ever seen in terms of skill, athleticism, and tactics. Two great boxers at their peaks, undefeated, and both likeable. A VERY rare event!
Calzaghe was a bit better, but ironically this is one of the performances that proves how good Kessler was.
Well said
Wanna watch high level skill? Watch Mike McCallum vs James Toney their first fight..
An exemplary fight: the very best of boxing on display. I scored it 118-110 (gave Kessler only two rounds); the swing rounds (where a case could be made for Kessler) were four, five (Calzaghe was the busier) and seven (Kessler had some success in the middle but it was a case of single shots here and there).
Calzaghe's counter jab is truly a thing of beauty. He is such a complete fighter; my second favourite of all time after Ken Buchanan. Broad punch selection; excellent variation; those famous flurries that overwhelmed opponents (Kessler was saved by the referee in the eighth from becoming another victim); such firm guard control over his man's hands; how he steps in to smother an opponent's onslaught rather than retreats; the footwork that takes him in to hit and out of harm's way so seamlessly; the range control - how he is almost always close enough to land but not near enough to take a punch; the way he turns his man and catches him over the top at an angle; his head and upper body movement in the last resort that save him from getting chinned. And then the engine: he is nonstop from first to final bell.
👏
I remember going to watch this was such amazing experience and atmosphere
Undefeated champion for a reason, he beat all the top competition - definitely up there with Rocky Marciano and the all time greats!
Great fight, lovely how Joe switched it up from round 5 and just boxed that's what changed it!
I thought that Joe, almost met his match there ..
A VERY tough opponent.
Very true but let's remember Joe did this at the age of about 35. Both absolute warriors.
@@mrtibbz10 Oh yes, incredible when you think about it!
@@mrtibbz10 and never ever sparred! His granite chin & skills never even got to have a practice before his fights, he verged on being legit otherworldly as a boxer-literally lol
Kessler had never fought anyone in calzaghes class
Commentator said endurance will favor younger man as fight goes on....Joe said hold my beer🤣
Him and his dad what a combo!
the crazy thing is his dad with no experience was his coach and cut man . 😂😂
And calzaghe never sparred, his chin never saw action until championship fight nights lol
There is only one Joe Calzaghe, Britains Finest gladiator. God Bless Wales.
DIOLCH . CYMRU AM BYTH .
J.C deserves to be a monument of world boxing.
He started taking over when flanking left shoulder of Kessler, and finishing shots with right hook behind left ear of Kessler. Was attacking a little too straight on in early rounds, which left him a bit short on range leaving himself exposed to counter uppercuts. Wasn’t bringing his feet with the attacks, footwork a bit flat, but like a true champ made the adjustments. Kept his feet closer together and turned the corner on him, game over after that.
2 undefeated elite fighters a real boxing treat, fight like this are few and far between,,thanks for shaing with us all
2 UNDEFEATED , ELITE CHAMPIONS MANO A MANO , FANATASTIC . THIS WAS A TRUE SUPER FIGHT. THEY BOTH BELONG IN THE HALL OF FAME .
2022 Enzo, LEGEND, RIP! Joe Calzaghe No1 PFP 💥 The Best✌️
two great fighters, that put on a great display, respect to them both. joe calzaghe was one of the greatest boxers of all time
Joe trained by his father, what an unbelievable and unbeatable combo! I love it.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Great fight.
Great fighters sometimes cancel each other out and the fights are anticlimactic. But the technical skills are unbelievable
Joe is the best boxer in his weight group ever!!!
James Toney bud, that's just one that Calzaghe wasn't better than. We could make a case for a few more.
Andre Ward the Goat
@@extremepoker75 calzaghe would've took wards soul & imo he 100% finds the way to beat toney which would have been epic, I love froch but he shouldnt be mentioned with this guy
just a master , Joe a leyend
Without his dad in his corner, Joe would have never been undefeated.
RIP ENZO
And training him. I have only seen a handful of boxers with Joe's stamina: Henry Armstrong, Aaron Pryor, Rocky Marciano... It's almost impossible for the human body to throw that many punches per round for a whole fight.
So what? Perfect team. Mike Tyson would have stayed untouchable if Cus had stayed alive
@@Myndir Roy Jones’s stamina pisses over everyone you’ve just mentioned in his prime . JC wouldn’t have lasted 7 rounds with Roy Jones in his prime at LHW or SMW
@@telp1416 didn't cus used to sleep in his bed?
JOE CALZAGHE the man the myth the legend
what a fight!
Would love to have seen Canelo vs Calzaghe
Calzaghe win 😈
Ridiculous comment only one man would win. The far bigger one.
incredible match
2 hard men who love boxing.Best of friends later.
WAW! Brilliant stuff!
Can hit, can move, can box, can bang, can take a shot, limitless energy... Best boxer that ever lived, IMO. Those quick combinations and movements are a sight to behold. Joe is the best 👌
wonderful!
13:29!
I LOVED watching Calzaghe... GREAT nights of boxing 🙌🤗👌🥳😎
Brilliant Boxer. And clean.

Witter was right once Joe took the power of his jab he started to relax and then he flowed....some beautiful boxing at times lovely little short punches just a master at work
he only shares the Welsh shorts out of resodct
legend
mayweather didn't want it ..correct
Jim Neilly on commentary - THE BEST
Only 1 word u can say class Joe could take punch. Awesome 👍👌
A cross weight fight between Adamek V Kessler would have been great to see back in this time. European boxing was doing great
Legend
Fight of the year in my opinion.
What a fight, what a fighter! His Dad is one of the best corner men.
Great warrior... more exposure in America would have been great.
He was scared of ward
Good match
@@columbusohio72 🤣 In your dreams
@@columbusohio72 Ward would have been just another notch on Joes gloves.
Joe comes from a good but hard place. There were few that could see the size of the fight inside but I was lucky to witness a true fighter with no BS. He is still a big man with an even bigger heart and a total love for boxing unlike most these days.
Simply the best 12 stone boxer ever in my view.
A time when there were no phones in the Crowd
Nah just a blackberry hype. I phone came online tail end of 07
Joe just got the best fuel tank
Great fight ....Kessler outboxed.
and kessler was a good fighter in his own right,,very similar boxers but joe,s footwork and long arms did the deal here
@@marcperrett662 so when Carl Froch always goes that he would have had too much for Calzaghe, he was similar to Kessler and to be honest I thought his fights with Kessler could've gone either way ....for me this fight is the answer !
@@kevinell6605 no argument with that,,nice to see the super middles still have excellent footwork and bobbing, ducking, moving that the heavyweights just cant do,,this was his best period ,,,just a pity the americans did,nt get a feel for joe until the last fights in his career
more like outworked.
@@marcperrett662 I agree. I'm American and Joe is my favorite boxer of all time tied with Hagler. I just wish they would have given him more exposure over here before he retired. Although he couldn't have had a better coming out party than the Lacy fight. Incredible showcase.
Calazaghe easily no 1 British boxer
Calzaghe top 5 GOAT. No-one beat him, not even a threat of it. This was probably his toughest test.
Calzaghe had a great chin fighters spirit
шикарный БОЙ !!!!!
Great heart and skill from Calzaghe and his ability to switch styles is dazzling. Viewing pleasure spoiled by moron Witter's non contributions.
Watching a guy get knocked down and the getup and Win! None Better. I believe so many underestimated Calzaghe’s power and the slick beating he put on Lacy was a thing of Beauty and Lacy is a humble gentleman and a bull of a man.
Roy Jones beat lacy with one hand
@@TrulyUniqueOne after joe took his soul
all time no.1 boxer in uk
American commentary is a lot more sophisticated
Froch good boxer and likely closer fight with calzaghe than most think
The goat 🐐
Joe never got the credit he deserved. At least in the states!
Joe took some beauts didnt flinch. Unreal! Thats one big difference between him and the rest.
I know because I was there
Quelques jolis plans en contre-plongée. On lit mieux un combat de bas en haut.
Esa pelea la vi enpate.
This was a very good performance from Kessler but sadly Kessler ran out of steam, otherwise could have been a closer decision.. Calzaghe stamina and hand speed at 35 took the fight. Kessler could have used his jab more he also never used his right hand to paw like joe did to gage the distance and block the shots, and not enough combo's by Kessler. Respect to both fighters. Well done Calzaghe.
Joe C should be getting a teachers pension for the amount of boxing lessons he dished out. This Welsh Dragon ate the British goat and as sat on top of British boxing ever since. Legend and I'm 🏴 💯 legend
I love them both...forget stupid national pride btw....and it was great to see him surprise Kessler on national tv
Junior Witter's first and only commentary gig 🤦🏼♂️
witter. lol. i remember.
More life in that shit I’ve just taken
Joe the real boxer
If the boy had let his hands go probably it would have been a different fight altogether.
Froch wouldn't lay a glove on this man
Different class
As you saw against ward
Froch got schooled
It wasn't that wide and we all will agree who the fuck would pay to watch Ward elbow hug and headbutt his way to a boring decision. Froch and Calzaghe gave value for money.
The biased commentators make me puke, Kessler can do amazing boxing for a good few seconds but Joes one punch back is pure genius LOL
Froch couldn’t lace Joes gloves
Calzaghe is pure class. Froch would of put up a good fight. But would of been outclassed.
boxing is such a religious sport. it's better to give than receive.
6th round. Joe went god like...
4:23 " They are both very accomplished boxers and, boy, they can both punch as well".
Question: Is there such a thing as a very accomplished boxer who *cannot* punch? Answers on a postcard.
The same fighting style with Hopkins.
Both great fighters but Joe was a bit better. He was way better than Froch although he too way one tough nut.
Kèssler
the only man mayweather refused
Floyd wasn't even in his weight class at this time or ever. Joe was a MW Floyd was at his best in 135

My top 5 in no particular order:
Lennox Lewis
Mike Tyson
Tyson Fury
Joe Calzaghe

You can't be the undisputed champion if one of the boxing authorities recognises someone else as the champion.

Joe Calzaghe is a far better boxer than Floyd Mayweather, because Joe gets the balance right between defence and offence, whereas Mayweather is simply obsessed with not getting hit.

Hall of famer yes
Based on quantity not quality of opponent
Boring fight
And Karl F would have knocked Joe Out. Can’t party cake slap a guy who hits like that.
Kessler won
Only in America can you be on the back foot and hit your opponent with less shots to win. 🤓
🤣😂🤣 Even Kessler knew he lost .
To me kessler is more advance in this bout.
Kessler won that fight…
Kessler or the judges didn’t think so
