South Africa awarded Peter Tosh one of their highest honours for his work against Apartheid at a time when no other Reggae artists campaigned against the evils of Apartheid,, Peter educated other Reggae artists about the system of Apartheid as well as other injustices. South Africa honoured Peter and it would be fair if Jamacia should follow suit. Peter sung, campaigned, and called strongly and bravely for Equal Rights and Justice â€đŸ’›đŸ’šđŸ–€

I've always argued that Peter Tosh and Jimmy Cliff were genuine fighters against Apartheid and promoters of Pan-Africanism. Sadly. their true and, therefore, more meaningful contributions towards the upliftment of humanity don't get anywhere near the billing of Bob.đŸ˜„However, I do understand that Bob's recognition has more to do with money and serendipity than substance -- Bob was a perfect fit for the hippie movement at the time when his lifestyle choice fell out of sync with the tenets that were the basis of true identity recognizable with The Wailers, without whom we might never have known him. Though Bob never claimed to be a hippie, he was really more identifiable with that movement than with Rastafarianism; and, that helped greatly with his popularity and by extension -- his music. I can't have any issue with the fact that Reggae gained more popularity as a result of that. But, when it comes to fighting for Pan-Africanism or the general promotion of humanity's upliftment, there should be no question that Peter and Jimmy are WAY ahead of Bob. Yet, I don't hear anyone advocating for either of those guy's naming as National Hero!

@@Jamaican_Sun Cindy Breakspear entered the Miss World contest when Jamaica boycotted it due to Apartheid yet Bob still dated Cindy. To me Bob and Cindy didn't care enough about Apartheid, while Peter and Jimmy was singing and campaigning against it, irrespective to the damage to their carers. It is a travesty that they do not get the attention they deserve. But at least South Africa has honoured Petah. Bob broke some tenents of Rastafari and there are many true Rasta that don't check for him. I find it strange that all the African content creators seem to wash right over those who contributed more for the liberation of Africa. Equal Rights and Justice for all. â€ïžđŸ’›đŸ’šđŸ–€

So many Jamaicans with very little have helped our fellow Jamaicans through schools and hospitals; look at what many other artistes and athletes are doing -- Veronica Campbel-Brown and Shelly Ann Fraser-Pryce, just to name a couple. Bob has never done any such thing! Yet, people are shouting from rooftops to get Bob named a national hero! As a result high society will not elevate any Rasta to a national hero. You can’t find a Rasta elevated to that status in any island. Not Marley , Tosh or bunny Wailer. Those legends are for the people . Not the government. I think he should be a national hero just as Barbados 🇧🇧 made Rihanna a national hero but I do not think it will happen for a long time.

      True.
It's easy for the elite to make someone like Rihanna a national hero, she's pretty, popular, and stands for nothing politically, she's not a threat to the political elite.
Bob Marley was very political and demanded change for the poor people, that's why the elite don't like him.

As he did go to play at that concert after the attempt to murder him means ujity
As he did bring 2 political rival together in a full stadium that show he is a man of unity..
His sons are full of lyrics embracing peaceful revolution that means inity.

Exactly this why is because the masses see Rastas as downtrodden and marginalized them. The Jamaican Christians in politics won't elevate rasta Bob Marley to national hero, it's sad they won't honor his legacy in this way.

Thanks Woda Maya, I am confused who is an hero is it somebody who died for the betterment of people and ddnt benefit. I travel on public transportation and I hear all kind of sayings about who should be an Hero. I believe the Iconic person that Bob Marley represent should not be mixed up with National Hero, his movement and what he sends for is just exceptional, he will always be a legend for me who stood out and made Jamaica rise in the world with his music. He was just different than Heroes and other people even though he is a human created by God. ❀

There are several honours given to outstanding Jamaicans. Bob Marley was awarded the third-highest honour in April, 1981, which is the Order of Merit, for his contribution to Jamaica's culture. He has a statue and is celebrated at every opportunity. In time, he and others, if necessary, will be considered for national hero status. Knowing his personality, it seems hardly likely that he would be overly fussy to become a national hero. Jamaica is a nation of many amazing people. Why not keep the hero worrship to a minimum and focus on celebrating the positives on the tier that is currently in place.
