      They just get a bad rap. Nobody ever compares the amount of poodle attacks to pitbull though... A lot of poodles are very nervous, angsty little dogs with a knack for biting/being protective of the one lap they tend to sit on. And yet, this comment is not a condemnation of poodles.

      @CBlargh Před 3 lety +2

      I get the idea of why, it's just that it's an idea that often doesn't sync up with reality.
      With every dog attack, regardless of the dog's breed, there's always context. But in cases such as pitbulls, who've literally been given this reputation by humans, it seems that most people ignore the context and just blame the breed. That's actually quite worrying to me, as it shows a lack of consideration and critical thinking in favour of blind bias. Which is a bad way to approach most things in life.

    • @CBlargh
      @CBlargh Před rokem +1

      @@django3422 Agreed. Dog people are probably partly to blame for that, because we do sometimes speak in terms of breed temperament. Any dog can bite, it's true, but just rolling the dice on a dog that's _likely_ to bite without knowing anything else about the context, pitbulls would seriously be at the bottom of my list.

      @Shaun Fleming Sure. Of course. Even my pittie will bark or growl a warning to a stranger....or just the doorbell lol. But he isn't going to just freak out and attack for no reason. We've had rescues for over 15yrs. And before that we had a rescue husky and a rott-chow-collie mix and several rescue Collies. They all acted just like our Pibbles. And they could all be scary if threatened. Or if any of us were threatened. The lover we have now even growled a warning at the vet. She just laughed and told him it was ok and patted him. It was because she came flying into the room and right at me and she said he's just protecting you. The Rott tried to take a chunk out the vets ass one day because the husky...his "wife", had to get a shot and she squealed. It was really close too. But if you watch enough clips and see the bait dog rescues you'll see. The pitbulls are scared like all other dogs. They are wary...and yet you will see what usually happens when they finally give up and let themselves be loved. I'm not saying 100%. There IS no true total anything really. But they are the same as all the other breeds once they see no more hurt. Loving. Out of their minds with gratitude. Even after being hurt and starved and abandoned by some crappy monster "human" they forgive and forget in their doggie way. All the breeds. And alot of the time the ones who actually BITE or go after the rescued are NOT pitbulls. Many times the smaller or "safe" dogs...or the breeds people...well some people...think are safest..like around kids...retrievers and labs and spaniels etc...are the ones who go batshit crazy and bite. I know all the other things saying pitties are unpredictable and have locking jaws and blah blah blah. Not any truer than for any other dog. NO locking jaw either. I asked the vet years ago. Not. They ARE strong and tenacious and they don't WANT to let go, but that's no different from most critters with something they want. There are alot of little terrier breeds and they were bred to rid the castle or wherever of vermin. And they can certainly be tenacious little buggers! We have had those too. Just lost our jackrat in 2018. That's Jack Russell terrier mixed with Rat terrier. Cute..but a real nightmare. He tore into our pitties for over 10yrs. He bit part of my fam as well. Never got me..but I told him I'd bite him back too so😈? He and our Titan were ratters tho. Pitbull terrier and little jackrat terrier. Not alot of wildlife on the ground when they were around.
      Oh boy. Typed a book. TLDR for most. Whatever. Most of the time the more dangerous end of a pibble is the wiggly one. That flying heavy duty tail from the wigglebutt can knock a kid right over. And they usually step on your feet, jump in your lap for hugs and suffocate you and all food must be carefully guarded if you and your fam want to eat. That includes any other critter friends too. Our pittie used to eat the grains the chins spit out of their cage. He would just lay there waiting no matter what my daughter did. Nuts. He never growled or tried to bite if you took it away tho. The jackrat sure did. Even if he didn't want it he'd try to rip your face off. Say do you know what that other guy meant? About it not being so and sos dog?🤔 Have a nice weekend. Sorry for the blah blah. Haha.🐾🤘

      As a rescuer I can tell you we want to keep them all, but that means i would have 895 dogs and around 1,100 cats. That's a bit excessive.

    I rescued a neighbors tiny little wiener dog off of a very tall stack of firewood. He had been up there for a very long time, days. He was dehydrated and weak but still so happy to see me he dove into my arms and licked the crap out of me. And he had always been quite skittish and barked and ran away when he saw my dog and I walking by over 100 yards away. But he never forgot that we did him that solid, we were all good bros from that day on.
    Honestly one of my favorite experiences I’ve ever had. Still don’t know how the hell little guy got up there. A 6” tall dog on top of a 6’ stack and no type of ramp or spot to climb up either. I just happened to spot him while walking my own dog. His family was so happy they were crying. They were very elderly and had drove around looking for him almost nonstop, but didn’t actually check all of their own property, they had mobility issues.
