Eric Clapton is a triple inductee As a solo artist as a member of cream and as a member of the Yardbirds
I believe he is the ONLY triple inductee. I could be wrong. Regardless, he is a phenom.
@@williamstreet4304 He is the only three time inductee, just as Stevie Nicks is the only two time woman inductee.
I believe he may not be done yet. There’s still Derrick And The Dominos, Bilnd Faith, and Bonnie And Delaney that may yet be inducted. ✌🏼😎
@@randyhochstein8455 Blind Faith and Bonnie & Delaney were interesting excursions, not worth a nomination I think. But Derek and the Dominoes, even with only 1 studio album, was stellar. Induct Derek & the Dominoes!
Yardbirds! I like their early blues stuff more than the psychedelic stuff. They did my favorite version of Train Kept A Rollin. So raw, and it was when Clapton was in the band.
Interesting fact - When "Lay Down Sally" was released as a single in 1977, "Cocaine" was on the B-side of the 45. For more of ol' Slow Hand, you can do his cover of Bob Marley's "I Shot the Sheriff", "Tears in Heaven", "Change the World", "Forever Man", or "Layla" (which was released under the group name Derek and the Dominoes, one of the many groups Eric was a part of).
Tears in Heaven will have Amber in tears. Such a special song.
IF Y'ALL HAVE NOT LISTEN TO WONDERFUL TONIGHT AND TEARS IN HEAVEN THE ARE A ABSOFREEKINGLY A MUST LISTEN
He's a great guitarist but he has that seasoned voice but u have to hear Tears in Heaven about his little boy (about 3 or 4yrs old) that fell out of their high rise apartment window in NYC & passed away of course. The sound of the pain & sadness in his voice is heartbreaking but such a beautiful anthem to all our missing loved ones. 🙏💜🤞🥺
However how beautiful song that is he stopped singing it at his concerts
@@mikebzdusek8754 the applause is difficult for him given the reason the song exists. Tough situation.
I don’t know how he can ever sing that song without choking up.
"Fell" is one way to put it.
Louis ck
Derek And The Dominos “Layla” (Eric Clapton formed this band in 1970). Jordan, you’ll absolutely love the piano exit. Also, Duane Allman (Allman Brothers) plays lead guitar and slide guitar on this record.
Second that
Key to the Highway is an incredible jam from that album. Allman and Clapton just trading licks for almost ten minutes.
Classic track!!
Motherless children is a great cover
You guys need to play "LAYLA" by Eric Clapton and Duane Allman, you both will love it! P.S. "I SHOT THE SHERIFF" is another hit by Eric written by Bob Marley.
Layla 1999 live at Maddison square garden 🤤
There are two versions of Layla. I like them both but I prefer the unplugged version.
Yes! Both are outstanding
Love Erics voice! Its beautiful in his 1992 song “tears in Heaven” written about his 4 yr old son that was killed falling out of a 53 story apt building window in NY!
Saw him in concert in Dallas with Mark Knopfler, and Phil Collins. It don't get much better. And yes, he did this one.
Y'all be safe
I saw him in Houston a few years back and it was awesome
I was at that same Dallas show. I built the stage he was on in Tulsa. I have worked as a stagehand building stages , and rigging audio video and lighting for a local 20k stadium here in town .
That is until COVID
"It don't get much better." -- indeed
@@talon5538 That is freaking awesome!! Yeah, one of the memorable moments was when Clapton started "White Room" and a huge lightning bolt came down from the clouds and spread out under the clouds in every direction. It had been a very muggy day. We all stood with lighters ablaze and held them up to the sky as the rains came. Clapton played on! It was an amazing experience.
@@talon5538 T-Town is my home town!
You, pretty much, just can't go wrong, with Eric---this is one of my all-time favs, of his!!! ❤️
Clapton has dived into so may styles from blues to psychedelic to classic rock to reggae. "Lay Down Sally" was when he got into a country phase in the late 70's early 80's. Then he then got back into a more commercial mainstream sound in the mid and later 80's , then his platinum selling acoustic phase in the early 90's, then he got back into blues in the later 90's and into the 2000's.
Dude loves commas.
@@motodork : If you were talking to me, I'm an ol' broad; but, okay!! 😂
@@catwhisperer9489 oh ok
@@Orange6921 👍
The first time I heard this song I had no idea it was Eric Clapton and I thought it was a country artist that’s how good this dude is.
This was his faze when Don Williams was a huge influence on him.
Same here!
@@fermisparadox01 Yep he really got into a country sound in the late 70's and very early 80's.
Eric said, it’s the closest an English man can get to sounding like JJ CALE
J & Amber, you'll love Eric's "After Midnight", "Forever Man" and "Change The World"!!!
edit- This is 1977. His first solo single was 1970 ("After Midnight") He charted singles right thru the 90s!
"It's in the Way That You Use It" is also great.
I second the suggestion of After Midnight.
I forgot all about Forever Man. Great song!
I saw Eric Clapton for my 16th birthday and Santana opened for him. The finale had Santana on stage with Clapton jamming out together. It was a thing of beauty....
Eric Clapton is one of the few Megastars that never sold out and remained true to his love of The Blues.
Even when my grandma was sick back in the 70`s before she passed...Whenever I played this song she would get up and dance.
"Wonderful Tonight" is my favorite song by Eric. "Tears in Heaven" (about his young son who was killed) is beautiful.
It was Eric who convinced "your boy Barry" and "MY BOY ROBIN" and Maurice Gibb, AKA The Bee Gees, to go to Criterion Studios and producer Arif Mardin in Miami to find their R&B sound which revitalized their career and brought out the rhythm and blues sound from the Gibbs.
Hey you two!! Eric Clapton is indeed in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame…he’s the only THREE time inductee (as a solo artist, with Cream, and with the Yardbirds).
Check out ‘The Core’, ‘No Alibis’, ‘Bad Love’ ‘Motherless Children’, ‘It’s In The Way That You Use It’, ‘Holy Mother’, ‘Double Trouble’….you can’t go wrong with E.C.
I especially recommend "Holy Mother" with Luciano Pavarotti. Both men are at the top of their craft, and Luciano's grin during Clapton's solo is a thing of beauty.
@@SP-ui8bk yes!!! That is a definite must see… and it’s one of Clapton’s best ever solos.
This was such a catchy tune. This song came out in early 1978 and peaked at #3 on the Billlboard Hot 100. The beat and tempo makes you want to tap your feet
Per Songfacts: This jaunty tune is one of Clapton's biggest American hits. He wrote it in the style of one of his favorite songwriters, the Oklahoma musician J.J. Cale (Clapton said the song was "as close as an Englishman could get to being J.J. Cale). The B-side of the single was Clapton's cover of Cale's song "Cocaine."
In this song, Clapton tries to convince a girl to hang out with him in bed instead of leaving. The song is not typical of Clapton's work, which is often based on the blues.
It would be great if there were a reaction video of jj cale, from his early albums.
When I heard Bell Bottom Blues by Eirc Clapton, I had to buy a guitar. That song is the reason I wanted to play. I became an instant fan and never miss his concerts. He is coming to Ohio, and this will be the first concert I have missed because everything is so expensive, I cannot make it from paycheck to paycheck. Please do Motherless Children. great song/ also Mainline Florida. The song you are doing has such a great groove you have to love it. Clapton is God.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! His nick name is Slow hand for a reason. Makes it look so easy, but it is not easy to play his licks. Clapton is the GOD of guitar. Jeff Beck is rite there .
❤Props must go out here to the brilliant Marcy Levy, who not only sang the harmonies but was also the principal writer of this song. Which is why you simply must check out another song for which she did most of the writing, "The Core," from the same SLOWHAND album. The duet features Levy on co-lead vocals, and is built on a wicked guitar riff. And oh yeah, it's got horns, too!
One of my favorites from this album. Marcy has a wonderful voice.
J.J.Cale co-writer? Music, with Marcy lyrics?
@@scottmelligan1281 Clapton certainly did fine things with multiple J.J. Cale songs, but I don't believe Cale had any hand in "Lay Down Sally." The song is generally credited to Levy, Clapton, and guitarist George Terry.
Similarly, "The Core" is credited to just Levy and Clapton, with Clapton supplying the foundational riffs and Levy fleshing out much of the melody and lyrics.
Fun other fact: The other female vocalist on "Lay Down Sally" was none other than Yvonne Elliman, most famous for her stunning role as Mary Magdalene in the movie Jesus Christ Superstar (hint, hint).
@@bsiems_willieaugustproject Thanks, Ben, for clearing that up. About Mr. Cale. I'd heard the thing about Yvonne Elliman; filing that factoid under, 'Huh! Who knew?" upon hearing that she did vocals for Slowhand. Then went on to "Superstar" and ultimately to the movie with those "other" guys (LOL).
Levy later changed her last name to Detroit and founded Shakespeare's Sister with Siobhan Fahey...
Love this song. The guitar work, the drums, the vocals all blend to make this a memorable tune. Eric can make a guitar work like no other. Amazing.
Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
Clapton from the 80s on is much more easy going and focuses more on his songwriting. Derek And The Dominos is one of his groups (with Duane Allman) that made the iconic studio version of “Layla” and the guitar delight “Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad”, where Duane and Eric duet/duel on guitar!! (FYI: The live versions don’t include Duane). Then, of course, there’s Cream and The Yardbirds in the 60s.
You bet, his 60s output is his best, he was an utter guitar God in those days.
@@vicprovost2561 He has gone through so many phases from blues to psychedelic, to rock to reggae to country, back to mainstream songwriting and then his big acoustic phase. So many styles he has gone through, one of the most well rounded guitarists of all time.
@@Orange6921 Agree, Eric ihas one of the most varied and versatile careers, I mainly love his 60s output but also loved when he went back to the blues in the 90s, then got Cream back together, then got back with Stevie Winwood, these proved he still had it when motivated for me. All time great!
And do not forget his short, but pivotal time with John Mayall's Bluesbreakers.
@@donaldb1 , I had the album where they’re sitting on the curb, reading papers. Parchman Farm is one of the songs I’d practice the harmonica to!
Can't go wrong with Eric Clapton, suggest Bell Bottom Blues, Let it Rain, Let it Grow, Keep on Growing, Tears in Heaven, Wonderful Tonight, After Midnight, Running on Faith, Before you Accuse Me
Bell bottom blues is one of my favorite Eric Clapton songs along with tears in heaven
You forgot Bad Love
add Promises to the list
Clapton's "Unplugged" album - genius!
Marcie Detroit who did backing vocals on this went on to be part of Shakespeare's Sister, along with one of the Bananarama girls, and their song 'Stay' is amazing! The contrast in vocals and octaves! 💙✊
Robert Palmer Sneaking Sally Through the Ally
Yes, please!
Eric Clapton is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. If I remember correctly, he’s the only artist that’s in there 3 times. First with the Yard Birds, then with Cream and as a solo artist.
I love that smile he shoots across to her when it starts picking up this music is legendary 😊❤
You guys should try a few other Clapton solo songs:
- The Core
- Promises
- Let It Rain
- I've Got a Rock and Roll Heart
Eric was in a very famous band in the 1960s called Cream.Lay down Sally came out in 1977.The backing vocals were done by Marcy Levy who also co wrote the song. Levy went on to form one half of the group Shakespears Sister when she used the name Marcella Detroit.
One of the things I always loved about the guitar solo in this song is that it sounded like it was telling a story. It's not over the top, it's just as laid back as the rest of the song, but he makes his guitar talk!
Love Clapton, you have to listen to Layla. I don't think you reacted to that one yet and it's a must for Eric Clapton. Listen to the original first, he has an acoustic version that is very good also but start with original rock version.
The guitar in the Original version of “Layla” is some of my favorite of all time!
@@matthewsuchomski2593 It is so good, I have listened to it countless times.
Been listening to it quite a bit lately. Great sing.
Clapton was midstride in his career. This came out at about the same time as "Cocain" in the '70's, He'd been making the charts with Derrick and the Dominos, the Yardbirds in the 60's and with Cream in the mid 70's and had 20 years and more to go. He left a monster footprint for others to follow!
Love his voice and that guitar!! If you haven't covered Layla yet, please do! Please check out Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town by Kenny Rogers & Neil Young songs Harvest Moon and Heart Of Gold. Keep smiling!! ✨😁✨
Yes, Harvest Moon is an absolute must!! Great suggestion.
Jay, the song was 1977 , on the same album as Cocaine and Wonderful Tonight (both you have done)
Try Tears in Heaven next , if you haven't done it already. (didn't find it in your videos list)
Eric is in the RRHOF 3 times, solo, with Cream and The Yardbirds.
There was a period in the 70's that Clapton got heavy into country . He also came out with " The Core" live wich is a great 70's tune . And " Let It Rain ". Although on " Let It Rain " he has 2 versions . Which both versions are worth listening to . The second version is " She Rides ". When listening to Clapton , it's best listening to the live & studio version both .
This is Eric from the late 70's and a classic from Eric Clapton.
Eric Clapton is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame... THREE TIMES! As an individual artist, as part of Cream, and as part of The Yardbirds.
Tears in Heaven and Wonderful Tonight are absolute Clapton musts.
He has been inducted to the rock and roll hall of fame 3 times. Once with Cream, once with Derek and the dominoes and once as a solo artist. By the way, hood nickname of “Slow Hand “.
LET IT GROW and LAYLA are my two most favorite songs from Clapton.
That's Yvonne Elliman ("If I Can't Have You" from Saturday Night Fever) singing with Eric on the chorus. Lay Down Sally is catchy and easy! "Let It Rain" "I Shot the Sheriff" "After Midnight" "Layla"(with Derek & the Dominoes) "Mainline Florida" "White Room"(with Cream) "Knockin' On Heaven's Door" "Let It Grow" "Sunshine Of Your Love"(with Cream) "Tears In Heaven" Take a Chance" "It's In the Way That You Use It" "Change the World" (LDSally, Cocaine, Wndrfl Tnght, & Tulsa Time too) (more)
Eric Clapton's nickname and has been for decades is, "Slowhand," which is also the title of one of his albums.
Middle age Clapton did this song.He has gotten better every year that he has lived.Practice makes perfection.
Eric Clapton -Forever Man is F-I-R-E , its 80s Clapton!
It should be noted that the solo was played with no chord changes, the rhythm guitar simply vamping on the root chord throughout the solo. This is a great example how Eric finely crafts his note phrases implementing a few nice simple tricks and utilizing the entire guitar neck. Very tasty and one of my favorites.
It's been waaaaay too long since I've heard this song!!! Oh man!!! Yes, I grew up with this song too. And one time me and my best guy friend (I'm a girl) were over at his brother's house and his brother "does" music. So, his brother got out his guitar, set up some microphones, and began to play this song on the guitar and also started singing. So what did I do? Well, I provided backup vocals and it just all came to me and after the song was done, my friend's brother said, "Thank you for those awesome backup vocals". I was over the moon! 😀
I’m not much of a Clapton fan to be honest but I love this song! Just a great beat, great guitar and they’re talking about a subject we can all relate to. 🙂
YES! YES!! YES!!! SLOWHAND!! A LEGEND!! 👍😃👍so many more GREAT songs to listen to!! So glad you got back to him!! 👍🥰❣️🥰👍
I have a list of favorite guitarists. Eric has to be at the top. Just amazing. I'm in awe.
Eric Clapton is also known as "Slow Hand", because of the way he plays the guitar, just like you guys noticed.
You know Eric is Derek of Derek and the Dominoes that recorded the master album Layla?? The song Tulsa Time was written by J.J. Cale, a famous guy from zTulsa...good friend of Leon Russell that owned The Church Studio there in Tulsa that has just been renovated. Also Leon is buried in Tulsa with a fabulous marker!! I also think Jimmy Karstein, a very talented drummer, is also from Tulsa. There are many from your hometown!!
I have been asking for months that you listen to his song Let It Rain. It shows the great guitar work & is early in his career, when he wasn't quite so laid back. Maybe sometime it will happen.
He co wrote Lay Down Sally with a lady named Marcy Levy, she is singing backup. I saw them together in the late 70's. She had a turn as lead vocalist on one song & she hit this note that shook the walls of the place. It was so strong & powerful that Clapton's jaw dropped open & he doubled over in laughter.
This song was a #3 hit in 1978.
This song was co-written by Marcy Levy who was living in Tulsa at the time and singing with the musicians backing Clapton on this album. She sings background harmonies on this one. She also does great harmonies with EC on the song "Promises". Clapton said he heard the Tulsa musicians jamming every day after the album recording sessions. They played "the Tulsa sound" and inspired him to write "Lay Down Sally" in that mode. Yes Clapton is in the Rock HOF. In fact he is the only artist selected 3 times for that honor - The Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist. Good choice guys.
I always thought she sounded like Dolly Parton in the song.
I still salivate just thinking of Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana with their dueling guitars in Why does Love Have To Be So Sad
This is from 1977's "Slowhand" album and was co-written by Clapton and the back up singer you hear in the background, Marcy Levy.
There is no hall of fame without Eric Clapton !!!
It’s older Clapton and this is one of my favourite of his songs. There’s something about it that reminds me of Eddie Rabbit’s Love The Rainy Nights. Maybe it’s the cadence, but another artist you should check out who was big in the 80’s.
Yes, I second the vote for Eddie Rabbitt!
This one is one of my favorites by him. It's almost simple, and the honkytonk feel is full on. Another my uncle loved. He loved Clapton a ton. For good reason.
Yes, Eric Clapton is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, ever since Year 2000. 🎸🎤🎶
Eric is a great guitarist/musician. I've always appreciated his music, and the one thing I respect the most about him is his ability to be all over the map when it comes to styles and genres of his songwriting. He's never shied away from going from rock to country. reggae, blues, soul, you name it.
His nick name is "Slow Hand". This song along with many of the others that are being suggested are mostly from his solo work, however you don't know Eric until you listen to Cream. Proceeding his solo career Eric, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce were the band Cream, the first Super Group. Sunshine of Your Love, Badge, White Room, Spoonful, Born Under a Bad Sign, Crossroads, these are the songs that made Clapton famous. He is a triple inductee into the RR Hall of Fame as Cream, and as a solo artist, and a member of the Yard Birds. Before the band Cream was John Mayall's Blues Breakers, Yard Birds, then Cream, then Blind Faith (with Steve Winwood and Ginger Baker), then Derek and the Dominoes (Layla, his love song to his future wife Pattie Boyd who at the time was married to his best friend George Harrison). After all of that is when he began his "solo" career. Until you've experienced Clapton from each of these era's you don't know Clapton at all.
Great way to end another evening of RSR music, love this song it makes me smile every time I hear it 😀
Jay hit the nail on the head when it comes to Eric Clapton. His Nickname is Slowhand, and has an album of the same name. "Tears in Heaven", from later in his career, is an amazing and touching song you would enjoy. He plays on The Beatles "While My Guitar gently Weeps" which is on their White Album. Best friends with George Harrison, and he married Georges Ex Wife, and they remained best friends
This is the period of Clapton's career us Okies can be proud. Because Eric discovered J.J.Cale..from Tulsa.
This song is from 1977. In case you are unaware, he is British. Phenomenal guitarist as well as songwriter. Yes he is in Hall of Fame multiple times.
Clapton's longtime backup singer was Yvonne Elliman, who had a hit with "If I Can't Have You" from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. She was also famous for playing Mary Magdalene in the original cast of the Broadway show Jesus Christ Superstar.
He's in the HOF with the Yardbirds, Cream and Individual.
This was 1977. The same album as Wonderful Tonight. He turned 32 that year.
He is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once as a solo artist and separately as a member of the Yardbirds and of Cream.
Jay and Amber I can’t express enough how much I appreciate and respect your reactions! These songs bring back so many memories! Love them and the both of you!
He has so many great hits. He was also in the band Cream, you should check them out, there are only three members of that group and they have great music also. You guys are awesome
They did "White Room"
Strange Brew.
Eric Clapton is in the Hall of Fame three times
Sir Eric Clapton (CBE) is a three time inductee (the only one). One as a member of The Yardbirds, one as a member of Cream, and one as a solo artist.
Lay down Sally very underrated song was one of his best selling single reached number three on the Billboard pop singles chart in the spring of 1978. my favorite song from them.
I do believe this IS my favorite song of his. Yes, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, just don't recall what year.
Of course, this is classic. I saw him do "it's in the way that you use it" in the 80s, and there is something about that song- I love the struggle that it implies
If you want to hear Claption rock with vocals that will send a shiver down your spine...run immediately to "The Core"...you will thank me.
This is mature Eric Clapton. Probably early 40s. I think this was shortly after he gave up drugs and alcohol. I think he’s in the Rock Hall 3 times with The Blues Breakers, Cream and as a solo artist. He is one of only 2 people who ever played on a Beatles album. Back in the 90s Guitar World’s cover feature article was “100 reasons why it’s good to be Eric Clapton”. #63 Best friends with George Harrison. #64 Married George Harrison’s wife. #65 STILL best friends with George Harrison. Can you imagine that? Wow!
Clapton is well known as "Slow Hand" and has lived up to it.
If I ever met Clapton, the one question I would ask him would be, in the lyric "I long to see the morning light color in your face so dream-a-ly", is color, a verb or a noun. As far as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame goes, oh yah he's in... times.
Older Eric Clapton is The Yardbirds, which he left in '65. This is from 12 years later - well into his prolific solo career. He was in 4 or 5 groups after the Yardbirds including Cream (you've done a couple of those).
If you want to hear Clapton sing with a lot of emotion, listen to Five Long Years. Real blues. Wow!
In 1977 I received a compilation 8-track tape for Christmas with this song on it and fell in love with the song.
When Eric went solo he always had some great back up singers who because artists themselves. Marcy Levy and Yvonne Elliman.
What a rabbit hole to dive into! They call him “ Slow Hand “ , a true guitar master and Rock Icon. The band (Cream), etc. One of my favorites is “Rock and Roll Heart”. It will make you feel good! Enjoy! JWW
Eric Clapton makes a guitar talk in this song.
Man. I used to listen to this on my AM radio while camping in the back yard with friends, when I was 13, 14 years old.
He's been inducted into the Hall of Fame several times as a solo artist and part of Cream etc.
Backing vocals are a by a lady called Marcy Levy also known as Marcella Detroit a member of the group Shakespeare's sister ,she also co wrote this song
Something you might notice is the quack of his Strat. That’s the signature sound of a Fender Stratocaster.
*Okay - dig this:* the co-writer and back up vocalist joined forces with an ex-Bananarama singer and formed Shakespeare's Sister which you need to do for "Female Fridays" - everyone will yell "Stay" but also - "Hello (Turn Your Radio On), I Don't Care" and "My 16th Apology" should also be considered.
One year the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame featured what they called "the greatest band of all time" and, if memory served, Eric Clapton was playing the guitar in that band. I think Billy Joel was on the piano. But maybe I imagined it?
Love you guys .Like that you get to listen to all oldies a lot of us grew up to.This son song is one of Eric Claptons best.😻😻
Oooooooooooo baby heck yeah guys love it ❤️❤️I listen to this every now and then it is so soothing to listen to
River of Tears
There are 26 people inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame more than once... Eric Clapton is the only one inducted 3 times... Once as a member of the Yarbirds, Once as a member of Cream, and finally as a solo artist.
The female singer on this is Marcella Levy. She changed her name to Marcella Detroit and founded the duo Shakespeare's Sister with Siobhan Fahey. You might want to check them out.
I heard Clapton say that Sally was his dog. A great song from this time that never got proper recognition is “The Core”
Wow, you're really hitting the greats this week. Clapton makes that guitar talk like no one else.
Eric is the first person to be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame 3 times. With the Yardbirds, Cream and as a solo artist.
My favorite Eric Clapton song. Thank you.
