    The times I have been on a Fokker 100, I found that the plane is relatively quiet and it is really smooth. I also like it when the plane takes off, because with the rear mounted engines, it feels like I have been pinned to my seat. Flying on both Alliance and Skywest, I only had a pleasant experience with the Fokker 100.

    " Fokker One Hundred... New aviation... Fokker One Hundred ... Modern oper-a-tion. The futures' here! About to begin. Fok-ker is re-ady toge-ther we win! " - " We know how to build aircraft. With feet on the ground, and spirits high. We're all part, of a dream come true, to be like a bird, to reach for the sky - and flyyyyyyy. " - Nice song.

    The 717 is just a rebadged MD-95, sure, it's way more technological inside the cockpit, there's not question about that, but the airframe is dated. The engines are another issue, more modern with better performance due to the increase in the diameter of the intake fan.
    So how would the 747 remain new?? Have you not seen the new 747-800 Intercontinental???

  • @ataramprat
    @ataramprat Před 13 lety +1

    @Skippy585 You make no sense. You are telling me that despite the 717 having brand new glass flight deck, brand new engines, brand new wiring and electronics, brand new interior, galley, and lavatories...it remains a dated design because of the shape of the fuselage??? That is the LEAST freaking important part. All that matters has been completely updated! The 747-400 and 747-8 is an exact synonym for the DC9 and 717. Exact same concept: established design breathed with new life.

    Fokker is not entirely dead, at papendrecht fokker lives and build plane components for many different manufacturers as Gulfstream, airbus, boeing and cessna

    @Skippy585 Not by much??? The DC9 uses a fully-analog flight deck, whereas the 717 is fully digital. It is completely different. Again, the fact that the DC9 and 717 share a fuselage design means nothing. Nothing. There is nothing else in common aside from the shape, which is an aerodynamic today as it was in the 1960's. The materials are new, the wiring, controls, hardware, etc are new. How can you say the 717 is inferior b/c of its DC9 heritage, but the 747 remains new - it's just as old!

    I find it a shame that Boeing did not build a plane similar to something like this!! The 717 was based off the old DC-9 platform, great plane but still a dated design. This is something way more modern and from the looks, much higher drag coefficient.

  • @Skippy585
    @Skippy585 Před 13 lety

    @ataramprat
    The avionics might a bit modern but not by much, and yes, sharing a design that dates back to the 60's does mean something, although I think the 747's is still as fresh as ever.
    A plane such as the Fokker series regional jets would put Boeing in a much better position in the regional market instead of having nothing to compete with as of right now.

  • @Skippy585
    @Skippy585 Před 13 lety

    Not exactly a small regional jet, but look at the size difference between the Fokker 100 and the Jumbo 747-400 from KLM. 1:11

    That song... It sound like a Japanese cartoon introduction... :D Even though I like the plane and fokker in general, I could have done without the song. If this is the video that they showed to potencial customers now I know why Fokker went bankruped...

    Is there a video clip of the second maiden flight? You could call this the "First, Maiden, Inagural, Initial, Never Before, Earliest, Original, Pioneering, #1 Flight. Or would that be too many adjectives, superlatives, descriptives, modifiers? Maiden means first!

  • @ataramprat

    @Skippy585 Um...the 717 is far more modern, efficient, and comfortable than the F100. Another person who thinks the way an airplane "looks" is the indication of how modern or efficient it is.
    I love the F100, but he 717 is newer and superior. The fact that the 717 shares a common fuselage with the DC9 means absolutely nothing.

      The 717 was actually a McDonnell Douglas design before Boeing took charge of the design.

    A real turd of an airplane. Always broken, loud in the cockpit and in the rear cabin, and a terrible air conditioning system. If you are riding on an F-100 anytime from March to October, plan to sweat.
