Last week when Nate flew this rc plane, it was only $70. Now it is barely under $90! It pays off to be a subscriber with the notification bell on! The price is still amazing thought for this rc plane, so we have to recommend it just because the price compared to the performance is definitely worth it. We have never seen an rc PNP airplane this big with the electronics (except receiver, transmitter, and battery) for this cheap! What an awesome deal. When Nate flew this he flew it with the prop on wrong, so now Abby is here to redeem TheRcSaylor name and fly this for you with the prop on correctly! LoL!

I use other planes for relaxed gliding/soaring/non acrobatics.
I love my Night Radian and Volantex Ranger 1600(with affixed camera).
So, based on your video recorded 3 years ago, I am gonna buy a Sky Surfer 1480mm and clip it's wings close to the ailerons like I did with my SkyHawks.
    So much more sporty!!!
    I love
your videos and always check to see your opinion of a plane/quadcopter(I hate the label"drone".).
Everything that I fly is a drone!!
I am a patron of your channel.

Sketchy take off and landing but the flight itself was nice. Appears like you've gotten your confidence back Abby and that's a good thing.
I thought the idea behind this style of plane was to take it to altitude and then glide with the throttle cut way back or even off. Is that right?

If you're hand launching plane, it's hard to beat having an Aura 5 installed, because it has an launch assist mode, that will keep the wings level and your plane at a fixed pitch (30 degrees default) until you touch the right stick. Launch assist turns off then, and you can fly it like a normal plane.

Once the plane is trimmed, you don't need any input. Throttle at cruise or above and give it a moderate level throw with your right hand. Right hand quickly back to the TX and go from there. It's not as hard as you think. Just do it and you'll be fine!

  • @darinholmes5668

I always launch a plane like this right handed. About 1/2 throttle and a strong toss at a 45 degree angle. Pretend it's a javelin. Then as quick as possible on elevator and throttle. A little practice and the launch can be very smooth. But you have to throw it pretty hard.

Nate's gonna TRY to film 😂😂😂 he did a good job. You did a good job of flying too! Just a thought... have you ever tried to launch those gliders as actual gliders.. rig up a tow rope and just use the elevator for lift? Might be hard to get the rope to slip off the hook on the glider though. Just wondering too, for convenience sake(just having one controller) would I be able to get my Sport Cub linked up to my Mini Apprentice controller? Really not a big deal though, just a thought.

    • @chadpollman7970
      @chadpollman7970 Před 3 lety

I can see why it’s tempting to think that, but nah, you’d have to mount the motor backward or (for brushed motors) reverse the wiring to make the airplane behave like that. 😅 And yeah, it wouldn’t be pretty!
A prop is basically a rotating wing, with its overall lift vector aimed horizontally (thrust) instead of vertically (lift). If you imagine how a wing would respond if you mounted it upside-down and backward (leading edge toward the tail), you’ll have a pretty good idea of what happens with a reversed prop. Basically, each is designed to be most efficient in a particular orientation (relative to airflow across its surfaces), and forfeits a significant amount of its efficiency when forced to operate in reverse. Assuming it can still muster enough performance to do its job, your reversed wing will fly; it just won’t do so as well or efficiently as it would if it were mounted correctly. Same with the prop. 🤓

Apparently the prop that comes with that plane is really bad. I've get an apc 6 x 4 electric prop on my sky surfer. Only just clears the fuse but Super efficient. I've set my tx to full throw rates and it is quite nimble (well nimble enough to do aerobatics easily). I also fly mine with a 3s 2200mah lipo. Gives me a 15 minute flight time if I punch the throttle but if you fly docile. You can get 30 minutes!! Such a nice plane to fly.

It's a glider not a plane silly you use the motor to get dizzy heights and glide.

That launch was so bad. Full throttle and a solid 45 degree toss because these planes dip on take off but fly so nice, smooth and docile on med throttle.

But at least my wife is flying and enjoying life! I could say the same about your comment, but we aren't in the business of attempting to make others feel bad.. 😬🤪⚓

Nate, she "roasts" you for you initial hand-launch, then hits the one single small object out there on landing.....are you kidding me?? Also, you always hand-launch with the opposite hand of the elevator/aileron stick in order to maintain instant control after launch......in this case, the LEFT HAND.

All these pusher planes have some big flaws, being a pusher design it takes longer for the wing to create enough lift on the hand launch thus wanting it to fly into the ground, A lot of them seem to have a lot of down thrust causing the nose down position on the hand launch and there is so much air coming off the propeller it has a tendency to push the elevator down, the Bixler 3 and Dynam Hawk Sky V2 have addressed some of these issues making them easier to hand launch...

Yeah, it does makes them difficult to launch until you get the knack for it through trial and error.
On the upside there is no prop in the view if you fly fpv.. and you will never break a prop. Pros and cons..
