This video is rather misleading and bias towards akaso being better. Why would you do a comparison test with auto functions on and "not" mention it in the video, title or description? The only place you mention auto is on, is in 1 of the comments below that most would never notice or read.
If the iso from 1 camera compare to another isn't the same, how can you comment 1 camera is better than another? That would be a comparison between 2 different camera with different iso setting and I can not understand why you would do that. If you simply want to compare which camera auto function is better, that's totally fine but you need to mention that within the video or at least title.
I don't understand why you would say Akaso image stabilization is better when the video of both camera going over large bumps or while running, at points the Akaso camera video totally shake for a moment while the gopro moved only a bit but no actual screen shake.
The only reason I could assume is that you created this video knowing Akaso camera is cheaper and wanted to try earning some money from this video by attaching an amazon affiliate link in the video description. It would have been much more appreciated if you did an honest comparison showing the value of both camera for it's cost and not simply lie about the facts.

As much as the EIS on the V50X is outstanding when going in a straight line only, the GoPro 7 is better when going around corners or doing any type of creative camera movement. For example after 5:14, you can quite clearly see that the V50X stabilizer starts jumping extremely when he rides around the corner while the GoPro has some form of inertia calculation going on. Imagine a cinematic follow shot like Garret Brown's famous one from "The Shining". That just wouldn't be possible with the V50X without using a gimbal and EIS off. Also, such types of angular movements are kind of usual in the way an action cam is used, such as on a bike or when skiing. Maybe you should include a dedicated "corner running test" for your reviews, like slalom running around some traffic pylons in a line with the cameras to get a lot of direction changes.

  • @playero35
    @playero35 Před 4 lety +5

I have to say that for regular walking videos and jogging, the V50X works very good with the EIS. But doing extreme sports with sudden turning movements makes the camera to struggle. Really hope this can be fixed somehow vía software update.

instead of this, they build a better one.
Akaso and such brands sell lower tech budget cams, cimparing to gopro (and sony, garmin etc.) They choose chipsets and sensor which they can add sufficient specs for different needs.
such a well stabilization needs way better components. But then, the price gets close to gopro and why shall we buy it!

I wouldn’t say the black is worth 3x as much as the v50x but other than image stabilization, price and accessories the black is better in overall image quality in most shooting situations, doesn’t need a waterproof case, lots of recording options, linear mode, etc., etc.
For a secondary budget camera, especially with the latest firmware update enabling an external microphone, the v50x seems to be one of the top options.

    • @RedskullPro

The Akaso had better image stabilisation? Hmmm. I observed periodic jitters and some jello at the edges. I also observed quite a lot of jello in the night footage from the Akaso. I also regarded the Akaso footage as having too much gain. It did show more shadow details, but at the cost of a muddy gray-violet sky that looks terrible. I might prefer the GoPro to do better, but I wouldn’t use the Akaso at any price. Especially with fewer frame rates and features.

  • @155stw
    @155stw Před 4 lety +6

For a budget cam, the V50x beats the GoPro 7 black hands down, especially if you have the ext mic.for the Akaso (because the int. mic sucks). If you can get a used GoPro 7 black for $200, then for sure get the GoPro otherwise, if you're just going to thrash the camera around, get the V50x. $300+ vs $99, no brainer. Like if you want a cam on your MTB or in the race car. Why spend $300 when the $99 solution is 75% as good? And you can have 2-3 V50X for the race car in different places for the price of a Hero 7. The V50x EIS is good for a budget cam, it won't make you have a headache watching the footage.

Appreciate the comparison. While the Akaso is good value for the money and it's stabilization is pretty good, I feel the GoPro beats it in how well it retains details/sharpness while moving and it's low light image quality is far better. Low light contrast and sharpness is particularly good with the GoPro. The Akaso blurs fine details when moving (look at the grass and leafs). And no, I don't own a GoPro because I think they are a little over priced. But that being said, I may break down and spend the money on one anyway unless I find something comparable or better for less money.

I agree that GoPro looks sharper however its problem is also pretty clear, it has compress dynamic and if you look at the grass, the colour of the sky, the paved road colour. Akaso did well with colour reproduction its picture is not as sharp as Gopro, but GoPro also seems to be using aggressive sharping to produce that picture at an expense of colour accuracy.

I am writing from Argentina, sorry for the translation.
I follow your channel. I am going to buy an action camera.
I really like your work, testing equipment.
I could not find an OSMO Action test performed by you.
Also in the last year, I could see in your channel, that you have used OSMO in comparisons with other cameras.
At one point I was already decided by an Apeman Trawo.
Then I found on CZcams, comparisons between Apeman and Osmo Action and I observed many differences in stabilization
I belong to a group of Trail racers (running team of trail) and I would love to have the best stabilization. Also get the best image quality, which I consider Trawo had achieved
I could not find an OSMO Action test performed by you.
Also in the last year, I could see in your channel, that you have used OSMO in comparisons with other cameras.
    So these are the questions
Do you have a test performed for osmo Action?
Bearing in mind that now Osmo has a lower value ...
Do you recommend Osmo as the best?
Do you consider any other camera with its updated firmawere, comparable to OSMO?
    Muchas Gracias

That is what the electronic stabilization does. It crops the image. If you crop more it will be more stable, if you crop less it will be less stable. If you don't use the stabilization it won't be cropped.

@Hängyord DarkFlame to me not. Because when you stop riding you film the sky. It is too unflexible.
Better chin mount or at the side of the helmet. You film what you see and what you look at.
However, it is always a compromise.
The reason why I still use my Sony fdrx3000 is the stabilized 170 degree view angle. Even it is not smooth as gopro'' s hypersmooth. But yeah, the sony has definitely disadvantages, too.
I wish I could find a good and not too expensive second camera. But it has to have at least the quality of a hero7 black, which is still expensive. Talking about sad 135 or 145 degree. ... some cameras have only 115 or 125 degree. Far too small angle for mtb videos.
The gopro max lense has 155 degree but I won't pay that money.

The GoPro clearly runs with more contrast and is warmer. This could be tweaked, in post, on the Akaso, to achieve the same (Or better) look. Generally, I think the Akaso footage is better (Except in 1080, where it is horrible). I also think the sound appears worse because it is noise-cancelling more. It might not be so bad when boosted in post. Obviously tweaking things in post is time-consuming, so having something you like the look of straight out of the box has merit. I just bought the Akaso 6+ based on your (and other) reviews - this is because it gives substatially better video than the V50X, has better stabilisation AND with a mike, makes for a VERY cheap MotoVlogging set-up.
