They really nailed the eerie atmosphere of the depths
I think it would be cool if there was a big enemy that stalks you relentlessly and is unkillable. Lightroots would repels it, bright bloom seeds slow it down and it's only killable when you light all the roots.
Maybe for the dlc/master mode!
Fr tho it’s the perfect compliment to the surface
Not to mention giving the feeling of being stalked and being somehow always being claustrophobic in the shadows.

Try to avoid killing the phantom hands, unless you're aiming to fight a miniboss who'll spawn after they get killed.
For real. I made that mistake beneath the Deku tree. Phantom Ganon whooped my ass.

@@tinatomaszewski6473 LOL! How things have changed. I'm at the point now of farming gloom hands/Phantom Ganon for Demon Bows and Gloom Swords.

The phantom hands / gloom hands (which also can spawn above ground) are *definitely* the new guardians when it comes to early game panic
The Gleeocks scare the crap out of me still. Getting one shot with like 14 hearts
Another another nice tip i learn recently. Stall horses are immune to gloom. If you are planning to farm zeonite, these guys _ignore_ it entirely.
horses are a godsend in the depths. Also dazzle fruit makes quick work of those gloom hands
Build a basic vehicle and throw/shoot a large Bright bloom onto it…. Now you have a big lightbulb that will brighten up the majority of your view…. Really helps save materials

Honestly the dephts are just as fun as the Sky Islands, had no idea there was gonna be an entire underground area in this game and I was pleasantly surprised to find put about it
My only complaint with the sky islands is that a lot of them look exactly the same. And it's pretty tedious getting to them unless you use a tower to shoot up and land on them or rewind a fallen block (which doesn't always lead to a sky island).
Also dont waste arrows when you can just throw bright bloom. Arrows are so useful in this game but theres almost never a situation where I can't just throw a bright bloom seed. It goes pretty far if you have a good arch to your throw.

Here is another tip:
The lightroots you find are located directly in the same place as shrines.
*surface shrines, but yes. If there's a shrine on the surface, there's a Lightroot there in the depths. Conversely, if you find a lightroot, you know a shrines is right above it.

Mostly. From my experience, some lightroots don't correspond to a surface shrine

@@Cdogglesome shrines are hidden in caves. Get the pad detector from robbie and it will make two different sounds when detectin a shrine.
The normal double beep from before, and a new beep-boop whenever a shrine is either above or below you. If you're walking around in circles and it's making that second sound, it means the shrine is underground.
For the Arrow tip, you can get tons for free by breaking boxes / barrels. (You can usually break these with axes)
Alternatively, you can lift them up with ultrahand and drop them. They should break in a few drops.
@@RuggedRing On that topic, if you drop them with an angle that drops from edge or corner first, it breaks even easier.

@@Yarott75 just dropping them vertically if you do it high enough and onto a flat-ish surface will break them too
Yeah, I've been farming arrows just by going to all the stables & busting up the boxes you usually can find around the tent/building.
Something that really helped me is fusing a magic rod with a star fragment that made a Star rod that shoots out bright light that is really helpful for seeing in the dark

Those gloom hands are scary AF, the first time I came across them was above ground but I booked it out of there so fast. I turned daylight into gloomy darkness. How wild, way scarier than the guardians that can walk.
The first time I ran across the gloom hands I immediately fast traveled out of the location (that took me forever to get to, LOL).
Dude my first encounter with the Molestation Hand Nation (which is what i call the gloom hands, because of how they straight up violeted me) was when i was just minding my own business walkin around till they just jumped me out of nowhere. I still have ptsd of it...

Can we talk about how a lot of Zelda games have two maps,
Alttp has Hyrule and the dark world
Albw has Hyrule and Lorule
OoS has Holodrum and Subrosia
This place legit scared tf outta me
One other tip you prolly won't see anywhere yet is that if you find a surface spawn for living horses ping it then go underground and you will find stalhorses down there
I came across the hand enemy first in kolomo ruins, and i BOOKED IT!!! They can't go in water, so i went in the river, and waited until they despawned.
Also, make sure that your gear defense is high enough so you won't take so much damage from enemies.
Problem is, gloom enemies ignore armor and deplete atleast a full heart on hit no matter what

Also getting tulin's gust power helps get across gloom from treetops or other plants tops
Also a good thing I found is that if you can RIDE a skeltal horse you won't be affected by the Gloom.
I think I prefer using them over an vehicle build!
It helps - but it's not _too_ re-assuring. Damn, Nintendo went totally wild with the Depths. They are terrifying! You really need strong armor and the correct weapons!

I prefer to catch a stalhorse in the depth and just ride across the gloom. I can escape faster in case of danger too.
I never ran into those hands in the depths, only on the surface. It seems like just getting to a high ground makes them give up and blow up and drop parts. I didn't even know you can kill them because their health meter never goes down no matter how much I hit them.
You can get a miner shirt light bulbs on it from an abandoned mine (I think one of the 3 X locations on the map). That lights an area around you as you move so you’ll never have to be in complete darkness.
Also teleport a lot when you get into trouble, no one can touch you beneath a lightroot
My first encounter with the Gloomhands was on the Great Plateau. I tried to climb to get away, but of COURSE it had to RAIN. Nearly killed me.

@@R1IY2N I ran into it near the great plateau as well. saw it in the forest of spirits, right by hopper lake. if, you wanted to avoid that location.
Tip: the depths are rich of zonait and bomb flowers every moblim goblin (or whatever their name are) camp is a few nodes you can mine for your energy cells. Don’t worry about using the bomb flowers just use them I have been in the chasm for about 6 hours at 4 hearts and it’s very very rewarding everytime you kill someone in their
i haven’t really explored much of the underground yet tbh
It's a good place to get some interesting items. Plus vehicles can be a must down there, since they keep you out of the gloom.
Once you have about 10-15 hearts and some upgraded armor, I really recommend running around and just going in search of lightroots, farming enemies and zonaite along the way.
@@DoctorKidemonas A tip from a friend was quite interesting. Apparently shrines on the overworld match lightroots in the depths.
@TrueZero2 that's true. I have a bunch of stamps in the depths telling me where the shrines I've found are in the overworld, just to give me something to head towards whenever I go down. More lightroots you have, the better your map is, so there's definitely incentive.
Just beat botw this was soooo crazy going from that one map to having three..to all the advances and changes they made but still kept it the same sooo good
the way i navigate thru the gloom is by just driving or flying over it. shrimple as that
Those gloom hands are what get me the most and they are creepy as heck! Their like the hands that will drag you down to hell when they’re gone draining from you

Something I found very affective against the Gloom Hands is freezing them! If you use bombs to get them low, then you can freeze them to easily finish them off.
Do the brightbloom seeds disappear with time or do they stay put?

The only issue that I have in tears of the kingdom is when I put a mark on the light root and I’m just following the mark to reach there and all of a sudden I come across to an endless mountain and I just die because of my stamina and now I’m focusing on the master Kohga of the yiga clan and now kohga is so hard to get to him in the forth turn

The moment I landed on the floor in the depths I instantly started taking gloom damage and died in several seconds. It wasn't the gloom floor just the normal floor, is this supposed to happen?

Does anyone know how to get the BOTW save data horse into TOTK? I booted up Tears on the new oled and didn't transfer save data over yet, visited horse stable with my first wild horse and registered it. THEN I learned BOTW horse save data transfers, so I downloaded the cloud save data to my oled but I can't get the botw horses to come to the game.. Am I locked out of it now since I had already started the game prior to having BOTW data on my oled??
Move all of your save data over from your old Switch to your new OLED, and I had to make sure it was all on the device, not on my SD card. Once that's done, go to any stable and ask to take out a horse, he'll get cute and say something about an invisible horse, but just keep asking and then he'll say you do have some horses registered. You'll be good to go!
@@johnhoran9840 OH maybe that's what's wrong. I think I have my save data going to SD card ? I'll have to figure out how to move it and try that way. Thank you!
@@johnhoran9840 Didn't work. I moved save files to console not SD card, reloaded the game and talked to stable, and caught a new wild horse to register. Nothing made him prompt that I had other horses from botw.... :(

how do you get passed water that’s on the main land? i get stock in spots with giant walls…
The depths are actually an inverted mirror of Hyrule, so mountains and hills in Hyrule are craters in the depths. What's really useful is if you change the map layer to surface then resume gameplay, your mini-map will remember which layer you left it on, so this can really help with navigating the depths and especially around rivers. You need to look for where a bridge would usually be to get across.

Teleport using the map
There are occasionally tower/temple looking areas that you can ascend to get to the surface. Or you can teleport out via a surface or sky shrine

I ended up spending poes on dark clumps just to cook it and turned out to be dubious food. Turns out they are a seasoning like rock salt and supposed to be combined with foods. The game robbed me

another great tip is that each lightroot tree is the bottom of a shrine on the surface,
so if you're in the Depths and need to know the next location for a lightroot tree,
just reference your surface map.
