    I’ve only owned four bikes over the last 26 years - all Triumphs. A Sprint 900, a Daytona 1200, a Tiger 1200 and now a Trophy 1200. All of the engines have been noisy and very mechanical sounding. Others that I’ve ridden as loaners have been loud too.
    It just seems to be the way of things.
    On the rare occasions that I ride a Japanese four, it sounds very smooth, quiet and sewing machine like.

    It's a real shame that Triumph pulled the plug on this model so soon because it is a great bike, if only they had advertised it better in the first place, I'm sure that it would have toppled the sales of the RT within time.

    Hey Mark, Congratulations on your Trophy. We have had ours for a year now in Canada. I bought a Kawasaki Nomad 1600 the other week and took the wife out for a ride, it was the last time she went on the cruiser. She loves the Triumph Trophy for 2 up riding she just chills back there watching the miles go away listening to her tunes. Yep, it's a little heavy but when you see the carrying capacity of the bike it's no wonder it has some weight to it. We are heading away this week for a 5500km's on the Trophy she will be loaded down 2 up and all bags jammed with gear looking forward to it. We added a delkevic carbon exhaust to it which dropped some weight and it sounds way better than stock. Greetings from a fellow Britt living in Alberta Canada!! Check out some of our videos of riding in the Rockies and Montana!!!! Ride Safe

      I have Taken a 2013 Trophy and a 2012 BMW r1200RT out for a Test ride today. and a bit surprised with the result.
      The Trophy was a good bike not as bad with the wait as i fort and road nicely and corners very well . But still a bit top Heavy when moving her with out power eg walking her around a parking space or garage.
      The r1200RT was very impressed with her very well balanced ride Also corners well and has a smooth clutch. some very miner negatives it had no Radio on the spec i am looking at ( but am not to concerned not a deal bracker) the service intervals ant as good as Triumph.
      Also i wasn't expecting to like the BMW as much and may of converted me.
      Next weekend i am going to vue another 2012 r1200RT.
      But i think it is going to be a big dissension between the Trophy and r1200RT and could be hard in ways. If any one has any advice on iver or both it would be much appreciated.

    • @marksavage
      @marksavage  Před 6 lety +1

      really bud it will come down to you, as you may know I've have 3 bmw gs 's with the boxer engines and they are well balance so I know in the RT it would run and feel good.
      they also hold they money so you will pay a little more on the bike plus servicing, think you may have to try the pan and the gtr just to make sure what you end up with you keep
      .
      so far I am very happy with my trophy and even more after lowering her and putting in the dash cam. well worth doing maybe give them a watch

    • @stevoone342
      @stevoone342 Před 6 lety

      Thanks and yes I’ve watched both other vids (good vids and very detailed.) And may fit a dash cam on the bike I go for. I think it will boil down to this sat for my final discussion, The Pan is a Very nice Bike and is the one that got me interested and on the road for a big tourer but is prity basic on features and would need quite a bit of protentioal moding. (I don’t mind modding a bike but the amount to compete with BMW and the Triumph is a lot.
      So the Good news I think I’ve got it down to two iver BMW or the Triumph I am slightly leaning towards the BMW even though it is slightly more expensive. (And I am a bit Surprised, didn’t go into this looking at BMW due to I thought they would be way to expensive second hand and or I wouldn’t like the engine/ gears or ride, but after test ride is answer the last 2 concerns and looking at the market they are comfortably in budget) the test ride of the triumph did reassure some concerns with the waght But still would be a consideration when moving her around the Gauge and the drive, but it is a very close decision I think I would be happy on both. Also feel BMW would be slightly easier to self service/ mantaine But May have to invest when needed in some special tools Possibly. But both are very good bike by the look and sound of them.
      But yet agane Thank you , And yes it boils down to witch one I prefer.

      She’s a wide and heavy girl
      Rides very well just heavy to move around but I guess no more than the trophy or Bmw
      Loads of luggage like the trophy good on fuel and a bit more poke than the other two being a 1400
      Not a many gadgets as the trophy that wins bud and better than the gs but the same as the Bmw rt but as said the boxer engines are not for me
      Best test ride bud but it will be the cheapest as not much change new for 20k for the other two sure the gtr comes in well below

    HI Mark - great review. I've just bought a 2015 TTSE - I too was really concerned about the noise from the engine, it's a proper bag of bolts! but as you say it runs great and so long as it's not doing any damage then it's fine to live with.
    The only thing I really have an issue with is the gear change - it very clunky, nothing slick about it - is yours like that or is it just mine? If you are not aware these models are known for shearing their gear change lever bolt - particularly if they have been dropped. Might be worth a preventative change perhaps? On;y £7 delivered - I've bought 2.
    Also - when at idle does yours quieten down when you pull the clutch in?
    Going to look at the other 2 videos...

    • @marksavage
      @marksavage  Před 6 lety +1

      yes bud I have sort of got used to the engine noise now with the radio on all the time lol
      as for the gear change no mine is very easy and smooth but I have had this with the bmw gs!
      the new 16 plate sounded like I was changing gear with a hammer everytime yet the last 11plate one I have was great!
      so it is odd that some bikes are like this but have to say my gear changes are fine and no again the cluth levr in or out makes no different to the sound so think you may have a clutch problem bud with the plates but a lot of bike do do that with pull in the lever and like a old thrust bearing rubbing noise
      any way thanks for watching bud and hope you enjoy my videos

      every bike on my channel have been my own bikes and ive paid for them and rode them, I liked the triumph trophy very much and enjoyed the long trip we did
      also the bmw gs was a great bike and the wife loved that as she says in the gs videos and when I bought the vn1500 and the ducati -video on here also worth a watch
      at the moment I'm riding the tiger and like that for what it does
      if my knees were better id be keeping the gs and the trophy two great bikes both worth a ride
      then you have the pan st1300 and the fjr!
      id be trying a few bud but it does come down to you budget and your size along with your knees lol
      over 400 videos bud what are you after sports , touring , work horse, adventure or a bit of all of them

      mark savage Thank you. My knees are good. I am going for best wind protection. I sit tall in the saddle, long torso, and am trying to get away from head helmet buffeting. I was told by a rider that the GS Adventure has very good wind protection also.

      @@dry509 it does but for me the trophy was better and easy to ride with more luggage, bigger tank and not as top heavy as the gs and the gsa is just too much lol
      give it a test ride that's all I can say I liked it better than the st1300 but each to there own bud
