Also that "I'm not Hungry" has a few layers to it, he eats when he's upset and he's gone past that, he may not even be hungry, but the biggest thing is that this was all a test in what he's learned and "when you're done training you may eat" saying he's not hungry shows he still wants to learn and grow "when the student is ready, the teacher appears"

18:02 Actually, very spot on. Tigress does have an origin story by Dreamworks. There's another small and short movie where Po actually shares the origins of the Five to a bunch of kids. Tigress was always an outcast that no one got along with as a little child. So her desire to be part of a family and wanting to be loved is apparent but when she was taken under Shifu's wing, she grew up cold and closed off. Very neat that you were able to spot that.

Oogway himself seems to have known that he wasn’t long for this world.

How I always interpreted the meaning of the Dragon Scroll was that it's the difference between perfection vs. excellence. Everyone thought the secret of the Dragon Scroll was perfection, a secret that would put you at the ultimate pinnacle. In reality, however, the secret is excellence, the process of self improvement and accepting that you will often never be perfect. You can only strive to be your best and improve and aim for being your your best self each day. Po was able to accept himself where he is and how to work with what he has each moment, hence his fighting style that rolls with punches and improvises while drawing on serious willpower and perseverance.

My favourite message of this movie is that when you try to stop something and you do so because of fear, it will eventually happen. Tai Lung became a monster because Oogway told him he is, and he doesn't deserve the scroll. Tai Lung escaped because Shifu was afraid he would broke out and decide to send a messanger there and finally, Tai Lung who is powered by the fear of becoming a monster in his father's eyes and the need of making him proud which eventually leads him to become monster. And when he opens the scroll he sees a monster instead of the dragon warrior he was told to be.

@@kevinfrancisco6616 Although there is some truth to your words, I dissagree. We were never told what exactly Oogway saw, we are only told that he saw darkness in Tai Lung's heart. My interpretation of it is that Oogway saw what could have been (same as when he saw Tai Lung would return) and acted on this dream in order to stop it (again, same as when he told Shifu about Tai Lung breaking out of prison). And the fact that Oogway acted on his fear caused Tai Lung, someone who was all his life working hard to become the dragon warrior, to suddenly stagnate with no chance of ever getting his dream job, all because of a dream. It fits much better with what we know about Oogway since it is basically mirroring his actions in the story of the first movie.

Soo Oogway is a very deep character, and my favorite character. He knew from the very beginning Po was gonna be the dragon warrior (if you watch the sequels it will make sense). Not only that, the scene where Oogway was blowing out the candles, Oogway was testing Shifu. He told Shifu he had a vision, a vision that Tai Lung will break out of prison. He blew out the candles one by one to test Shifu’s patience. Had Shifu let Oogway blow the candles out one by one, it’ll show that Shifu is patient, and won’t be impulsive in his action which will lead to the escape of Tai lung, hence why in the scene where Shifu told the duck to go to the prison to double their defense, Oogway said “One often meet their destiny of the road they take to avoid it.” He knew Shifu was impatient and it was gonna lead to his downfall, so he told Shifu the bad news about Tai lung anyways. The scene where Oogway “died”, he ascended to the spirit realm, where he is enlightened and all-knowing, so not really dead. But he left because he knew if he stayed, Shifu would never be able to reach his destiny, or let go of the past. So Shifu would have to train Po on his own without Oogway’s guidance, so Shifu can fulfill his destiny and in doing that, Po will fulfill his as well. So Oogway in all three movies be spitting facts and life lessons at your face, and it’s honestly so inspirational hearing these things from an animated turtle.

Like Oogway’s quote “one often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it” is said IMMEDIATELY after Shifu sends the messenger to the prison. If he hadn’t sent him to order more guards to keep Tai Lung there, the feather never would’ve fallen and Tai Lung probably wouldn’t have escaped. You should DEFINITELY keep that quote in mind if and when you watch the second movie (which you totally should considering it might honestly be better than the first).
I’d also like to discuss how brilliant it is that Oogway passes on when he does. He knows that if he stays behind and beats Tai Lung, Shifu would never be motivated to train Po, and thus Po would never fulfill his destiny. On top of that, Shifu would continue to suffer over his failure with Tai Lung and would never be able to move on, continuing to live in sorrow. Oogway essentially forces them to confront the problem and their own inner demons so they can conquer them and become stronger for it.

From DreamWorks starring Jack Black as Po; a panda who works as a waiter for his father's noodles restaurant. However what he really wants to be is a kungfu master. His only problem is that the is a fat panda. When the villainous Tai-lung threatens to return, it is up to Po along with the Furious Five to stop him

@@Zach_Bliss They become better as in the second one they see Po as less of a joke more as a valued member of the group and there is real philosophy in the film of conquering your fears before conquering your enemies. With the third it is even better then the second as the theme of family no matter who they are is great also Po grows with each film. I don’t do drugs and I hope this opened your eyes to seeing the films in a different light. I would recommend watching CinemaWins videos about the films. They are very in depth with character analysis, story, etc.

Let's go! Great trilogy! The trilogy is fantastic, and they also made a lower budget show for Nick I believe. While I don't recommend watching all of it for reactions, there are a couple specials they aired where they bring back higher quality animation and the original actors (they used cheaper ones for the show), including one where we see the origins of the Furious Five. If you at all get invested in this universe, that episode at least is worth a reaction.
And it sounds like you will already be doing after this trilogy, but gotta shout out the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy! It is even better in my personal opinion!

Since you've already seen the trilogy on Patreon, I'll comment my mind on it freely. Kung Fu Panda trilogy is outstanding. He teaches you to accept yourself and the past doesn't define you. I like the metaphor that the first movie is about body. Tai Lung the perfect example of warrior's body and Po shamed on his own, both were orphan but chose different paths. In the end it's Po who found peace with himself other than Tai Lung who thought scroll is what defined him. Po's reaction to the scroll was "it's blank" and Tai Lung's reaction was "it's nothing". That shows the how both of them see themselves in reality. Also it took me a long time to notice but shifu is actually limp. When he was trying to stop Tai Lung on his first outburst but couldn't do it because of his love for him, you can hear a crack when Tai Lung hit leg. Also you must've already figured it out but the wushi finger hold sends you to spirit realm. I think you figured Shifu and Tai Lung's story well with Star Wars reference. That being said, what's your favorite trilogy in SW?
Also I definitely do recommend watching more animated movies. The best I could recommend are Brother Bear, Treasure Planet, How to Train your dragon trilogy, Shrek 1&2, Legend of the guardians: owls of Ga'Hoole, Rise of the guardians, The Adventures of TinTin, Meet the Robinsons, Sindhbad, Epic, Wonder Park.

There's some videos around on the symbolism in these movies with colors, translations (Chorh-Gom translates to "sit in prison" so Tai Lung is in "sit in prison prison " Tai Lung means "Great Dragon"), the animals chosen for each character (snow leopards eat both giant pandas and red pandas in the wild) and fighting styles. And it's a perfect trilogy too. (past, present, future and 3 aspects of Po and Shifu's personalities, teacher-student, equals, student-teacher). And there's also quite a bit of traditional Chinese culture. The CCP kinda studied this to learn how to incorporate more of their own culture like this movie did. (and collaborated on the sequels so they received wide release in China)
